GREAT LOCATION right on the boardwalk. Helpful staff, comfortable bed and cost included our ferry tickets. This is where we will be staying every time we visit Catalina Island. Don’t worry about the local bars/restaurants nearby once you get to your room it’s silence and ocean bliss. Coffee and muffins in the morning for something quick and the option to borrow beach towels is the cherry on top. So glad we stayed here.
We recently stayed in room 205 for Friday and Saturday. The room is on the front left corner of the hotel. The view of boardwalk was great. The website stated that we would here people during the night and we did but it wasn’t too bad. We loved sitting at the window watching everyone walking on the road. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. The walls had historic pictures we had not seen before. The water pressure in the shower was not very strong. The continental breakfast included with the room was a disappointment. We would come back.
Made reservations at this hotel was very please with the room. I didn't realize there was so many steps to get up to the hotel main lobby. other then that it was good. Staff very friendly, helpful. It was great it was in the center on the town of Avalon.
With the beach right outside the door, this is a wonderful place to stay in Avalon. The inner courtyard is awesome for post swim, get outa the sun lounging. Rooms are comfortable and clean and the staff is very friendly. The continental breakfast is fine but not special. No matter, I highly reccomend the Hotel Mac Rae
Staff were nice and friendly. It did not feel like a bed and breakfast setting; more like a seaside motel. Continental breakfast was suppose to be included, side table with mini pastries and some drink however, was below expectation for price of the stay especially for a weekday. Overall, I would have opted to pay a few more dollars to stay stay at the other hotel with upgraded amenities.
The rooms need a bit of updating but were fine over all. My husband's only complaint was a loud wall AC unit...but that's typical in most hotels so he probably needs to just get over it. The location is great: an easy walk to/from the ferry and it's right in the middle of everything, right on the water. Tons of restaurants and shops just steps from the hotel. We specifically reserved a courtyard room because we heard that the ocean view rooms get too much street noise. We were quite happy with the noise level in our room and did not miss having the ocean view.
Our 25th wedding anniversary, we booked a ocean view king room. We arrived early and were greeted by a gentleman at the front desk, who was very polite and helpful he gave us room 205. We walked through the small quaint courtyard that is open air, there was s couple sitting In Comfy furniture reading, we reached our room, Opened the door to a charming, quaint beautiful ocean view room, clean and pretty, we will definitely be back . Amazing place and perfect ocean view, good value ¿¿¿¿
If you are looking for access to everything this was a great location, couldn't be beat. We went in spring, so not too noisy. I imagine in the summer, when Catalina is busy, the ocean side would be loud. This was perfect for an introductory weekend with a wonderful ocean view. The amenities could be slightly upgraded, a towel hook or two in the bathroom and a shelf to put your things on, aside from that the hotel was clean and nice with a great view and a good value. Finally, good hotel coffee!
I booked this room for me, my sister, and her adult daughter for one night. It was perfect for us. Since it is on Crescent Avenue, directly across from the beach, everything that we wanted to do was close at hand.
I took my wife for an overnighter to Catalina. We stayed at The Hotel Mac Rae. The building is pretty old and has quite a history. The rooms were not original, and have been updated. We stayed in a room overlooking the bay and it was really nice to have our coffee in the morning looking at the bay. I'd come back again and plan to when we go to Catalina again.
There's nothing fancy or frilly, just a basic little room but very clean. However, it couldn't be any closer to the water without being literally on the beach. I was here just after Christmas, there was no late night traffic on the beach so I was able to leave my window cracked open to listen to the waves lap against the shore all night. There were other hotels with more expensive and fancy rooms available, but to me I don't think any added amenities could beat how close I was to the beach. It was just the re-charge I needed to start the new year off right. I will always come back here, and ask for the same room anytime I plan on returning to the island. To me it was perfect.
My sister and I went to Catalina overnight and stayed at this hotel. They gave a discount for the Catalina Express. The room was clean and quiet. I loved how convenient this hotel was...right across from the beach and next door to some great restaurants! (need a n/a for dining score because the hotel itself does not have one).
