I stayed here two years ago on my honeymoon and absolutely loved it! I had the opportunity this last weekend to stay there again and I'm so happy I did. The staff running the B&B are so friendly and accommodating. When we arrived, the room we had booked had a broken heater and since it's February and gets pretty cold there they gave us two options to either bring in a space heater, or upgrade for free to one of the other rooms available. We ended up staying in the Fountain Suite and it was a wonderful experience. The rooms are all so lovely, Victorian with modern amenities. The breakfasts provided by their onsite chef are gourmet quality and an absolute delightful way to start the day. If I didn't live farther away, I would be coming back every weekend if I could. Do yourself a favor and book this place for your next stay in Ferndale.

LOVED this place! My fiancé and I spent weeks searching for a place to elope that could accommodate exactly what we wanted. We found that many bed and breakfasts in California were too pricey, were too “commercial”, or were less than personable on the phone. Finally, I called the Gingerbread Mansion in the small town of Ferndale and received a warm attitude and desire to assist with our wedding arrangements without all the hassle. Seta, the manager, made everything very easy for us, which was much appreciated since we were traveling all the way from Tennessee! My new husband and I will definitely stay there again!

The Staff The staff absolutely spoiled us, with fantastic breakfasts and afternoon teas. My husband forgot his wedding ring (we were on our honeymoon and just got married a few months ago) and the staff kept it safe and sound until we could pick it up a few days later. Thank you! About the room I don't like staying in boring hotels where all the rooms look alike. Well, no need to be concerned about that; this Gingerbread Mansion has rooms that are each completely unique from each other, with different themes, color schemes, and furniture. Want a beautiful claw foot bathtub in your room? No problem, there's a room for that. Interested in having a romantic fireplace right next to your bed? Yep, there's a room with that too. Want to pretend you are a princess or Duke for the night? Well, yes, there is a room that is absolutely and utterly regal in decor. Our room was the Lilac Room, one of the more economical options. But the room never felt like it was cheaper or smaller than the others; it was beautiful and quiet and so unique. We really felt like it was a special place to spend the night. Food The afternoon tea was a real delight to come to. After driving for about five hours from the Bay area, it was a nice surprise to come check in and have wine, cheese, and sweets ready to eat. Absolutely delicious! And then breakfast was wonderful too with lovely bacon, quiche and fresh fruit. Perfection. The staff serving us were delightful as well. Would I go back? I mean, absolutely. Ferndale is an utterly charming township, with beautiful Victorian lined buildings. There is a great wee coffee shop, a pizza place and a nice pub as well. Plenty to do and see there for a weekend. The Gingerbread Mansion is an utterly unique place to stay and a real highlight on our honeymoon. I highly recommend anyone go there for a lovely break and adventure from the Bay Area or as a nice stop on a West Coast tour.

The room was absolutely charming and wonderful. Very comfortable. Probably one of the top 3 places we have ever stayed. Thank you so much for creating a wonderful place to get away and rest and feel pampered. The Staff was absolutely phenomenal: Deb, Kendra, Susan (great frittata!), and everyone else! Thanks again! This was our second stay here to visit a friend for her annual fall party. Service was just as great as the first time. Rooms are beautiful and comfortable. We had reserved one of the smaller rooms but were upgraded at no charge because of a problem with the key. Breakfast was hearty and tasty and the staff did a great job of accommodating individual food preferences. The only relatively minor issue was that the bathroom sink in our room didn't drain well, making it difficult to have continuous running water like you need for shaving. Tip: Arrive mid-afternoon - there's wine and tea in the parlor, and the restaurants in town for dinner close relatively early.

My father and I spent Thanksgiving with my daughter who is attending college in Eureka. All three of us spent a memorable holiday at the Gingerbread. We stayed in the Hideaway Room, which had one bed downstairs for my father, and a cozy loft for my daughter and I. The people who work there treated us like family and the owner and wife were there to entertain and host the lovely Thanksgiving dinner. I wish we could have stayed longer!! We will never forget the good fortune to find this treasure.

The house is just beautiful. The property is just off the Main Street so it's easy walking to shops and restaurants. They also have a dining guide in the lower parlour that includes all eating options/menus which was very handy. Evening self serve wine was a treat also.

I have stayed at B&Bs through the US and Europe and can't think of a more delightful venue. The attention to design detail is impeccable, the service fantastic and the breakfast and snacks extremely tasty. For those looking for a Mendocino getaway I suggest you head a bit further north to the charming town of Ferndale instead.

We only had one night to spend in Ferndale, and the Gingerbread Mansion looked fascinating. It exceeded our expectations. The parlors downstairs are beautifully decorated but don't feel "overstuffed." We stayed in the Veneto room on the 3rd floor-completely worth the stair climb! Lovely, comfortable with hand painted murals on walls and ceilings-fun to wake up to in the morning. There was wine offered at tea, and all was delicious - breakfast yummy too. Inn staff were friendly, helpful and obviously love the mansion. Downtown shops and restaurants are only a block away. If we'd had another night, I would have tried out that fancy tub in our room (but the shower was fine).
