Staff was excellent, friendly and helpful. Great location. Bed was very comfortable. Wine and cheese in afternoon was a nice touch. Room was sizable & well appointed, but showed lack of upkeep. Baseboards, window sills, etc needed painting. Wall above the sink had been painted, but did not match wall paint color. A/C was noisy. Room rug was thin and slid when walked on, creating a hazard. Numerous scuffing and marks on walls of the cottage. Breakfast was below B&B standards, with no hot dishes.
My husband Gregg and I had a fantastic long weekend away for his birthday/labor day. Wendie and Jay were great and always treated us like family. They even lit a fire for us one evening. Such a homey atmosphere and the breakfast was superb, especially the Mexican breakfast!! Thank you for everything :)
My husband and I recently stayed at the Iris Inn for our 20th wedding anniversary. We were very pleased with everything from the location, to the rooms, to the service. The location is perfect - right off the highway, but when you are there, it feels very secluded. Deana and Kerry were wonderful hostesses, and made us feel very welcome. The made to order breakfast was excellent! This was definitely one of the nicest places we have ever stayed and we can't wait to come back!
My husband and I have stayed at 6 or 7 B&Bs in the last 6 years and we always needed to make allowances for imperfections. Not so at Foxfield. Every need is anticipated. The rooms lack for nothing! They are spacious and immaculate. The bathroom with separate shower and Jacuzzi tub was perfect, including the bath salts and the rubber ducky. Catherine is a wonderful cook and the 3 course breakfasts were divine, from the freshly baked muffins to the lovely desserts. We hope to return to Foxfield every time we are in the Charlottesville area.
We were in Charlottesville on business and wanted to stay at a B&B to relax and enjoy the weekend. We found Orchard House on line and called and spoke to Deb. What a lucky call for us. Deb and Mike could not have been more accommodating. What a lovely place to relax and enjoy. The room was meticulously done and so comfortable. Breakfast was outstanding. We will go back again and again. Great B&B and wonderful owners. Can't wait to see you both again. Will recommend Orchard House to everyone we know. Harry and Christine Chilcot.
This was our first visit to Veritas n it certainly lived up to all the praise we had heard from others. It's just plain, simple elegance. We were unable to eat outdoors among the. Vineyard but it was still extra special. Duane was gracious . Both chefs Emily n Andy mixed well with guests. Food was extra yummy. Thanks for introducing us to Veritas. We'll be back. And we plan on telling others too
What a wonderful experience! Home away from home! Its a friendly, comfortable, very clean environment to spend lots of quality time. The breakfast is amazing! They really spoil you! The care takers are awesome and we are very grateful to have meant them. Faythe and Francis
I thoroughly enjoyed my week in Virginia. From the wine tasting tour guided by Mike to dining and sightseeing in Charlottesville and cycling to the nearby music festival then cooling off in the pool at the Orchard House. Deb and Mike have made our two visits so far feel like a friends house with great breakfast. The only hard part is leaving at the end of our stay! Thanks again Dean
We had a delightful stay at Uphill House. Ground floor room was beautifully decorated, the king bed very comfortable. Breakfast was Devine and the owner a pleasure. We would definitely stay there again.
We stayed for a night on the way to CT from NC and were absolutely thrilled with everything about the night and the following morning's activities. We were running late and Patricia herself called to make sure we were still on our way, gave us a suggestion where to stop for dinner on the way and made arrangements to leave the key for us. All before we were going to call them. The room was amazing. In fact the entire farmhouse is quite a treat. It's a lovely place with old world feel but all the accommodations you expect of a top-tier hotel. The bottle of wine and truffles were well appreciated even at 930PM :-) Despite being a B&B, the rooms were very quiet and we were able to sleep a bit later than normal. Breakfast was at 9 in the outdoor pavilion they have for it. Two other couples were also there and we all enjoyed a wonderful breakfast - better than any we've had at either B&Bs or hotels. The chef is extremely capable and offered choices of savory or sweet breakfasts. We had the waffles with creme' fraiche, peaches and fruit reduction with our orange juice and sparkling wine. The croissants were incredibly light and flaky and the mocha butter an inspired departure from the norm. Our only disappointment was that we were not going to be able to be there for dinner. The vineyard and grounds are stunning and peaceful and we wandered the gardens (the chef grows his own herbs), played with a cat wandering through and enjoyed the ambiance and peaceful location before we hit the road again, re-energized for the remainder of our trip. This is definitely a place where we'll stay again when we're in the area, and next time for more than one night. Absolutely one of the best nights we've ever spent traveling!
This is the sixth time we have stayed at the Inn; starting many years ago with Tim's parents as the innkeepers. Tim and Dina have kept all the good and have instituted many new ideas and experiences. We will be back!
Had a wonderful get away from the city for our wedding anniversary. Room was clean, hors d'oeuvres served were great in the evening and breakfast was wonderfully made by Kathryn. Quite time with my wife and close enough to the wineries and downtown Charlottesville, VA that it made for an all around easy commute for the weekend! Lovely quiet and romantic city & B&B. Loved it. Will be back soon I hope :-)
We recently spent a weekend at Orchard House, and it was wonderful. The rooms were beautifully decorated, the Inn is very comfortable and welcoming. They had wonderful amenities, Mike and Deb were amazing hosts. They've worked with local businesses to develop a "VIP" program for their guests, and they went out of their way to be helpful and assist us in having a great weekend! The breakfasts and afternoon goodies were good, and the atmosphere was really lovely. Would definitely stay again.
This was a great getaway venue. August discount encouraged us to just do it. We enjoyed it so much. So clean everything sparkles. So delicious you can't wait for another meal or treat. So comfy, we bought the sheets. So hospitable you think you are with friends!
A nice relaxing and beautiful site. Good location for visits to wineries and breweries in the area. Good local hiking and within a day trip distance to Montecello and Charlottesville.
My wife and I recently spent two nights at Orchard House while passing through Virginia. Orchard House is located between Lynchburg and Charlottesville in beautiful Lovington, VA. This B&B came highly recommended by several people we know, so we felt fortunate to be able to get a very nice room on short notice. To do justice to describing this property would require far too many paragraphs. I will simply say, my wife and I were so impressed by this home, it's decore and the entire property. The owners of Orchard House have done such a nice job of making their guests feel at home. From the warm welcome you receive upon arrival, to the over-the-top breakfast each morning. I would be remiss if I didn't also make note of the warm cookies that mysteriously appear in the sitting room as you enter the home in the evening. We could not have asked for nicer accommodations for our stay in Virginia. I will add, Lovington, VA is located in Nelson County, best know for its vineyards, craft breweries and independently owned distilleries. In addition, Nelson County is filled with gorgeous and challenging hiking trails. The Blue Ridge Mountains are all around and make for a stunning view as you relax around the fire pit in the evening at Orchard House. I can't recommend this B&B enough!
Hosts were very welcoming even when we arrived VERY early (noon instead of 2pm!). They invited us to leave our bags, and gave us discounted tickets to Montpelier. We had a lovely wine and cheese early in the evening, and a scrumptious breakfast the next morning. We came to Mayhurst because we'd been there 25 years ago right before we got married. Our stay this time was MUCH nicer than the last time! We will definitely try to come back!
I've stayed in bed and breakfasts for 25 years in many states. Foxfield Inn is in the top 5%. The 4 course breakfast was unbelievable and exceeded our expectations with homemade ham patties, sorbets, and other delicacies made from scratch by Kathryn. Everything we could think of was provided in the beautiful, comfortable room. Just wish we could have stayed longer. Very peaceful and quiet on the outskirts of Charlottesville. We couldn't ask for anything better. Thank you Dan and Kathryn!
We had a great stay at The Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm. This was our third year staying there. Tim, the owner is very welcoming, gracious, an excellent cook, and very knowledgeable of the Charlottesville/Crozet area. We'll definitely be back next summer!
Stayed at the Inn at Sugar Hollow Farm this past weekend. The setting was serene, private and beautiful. The home was really lovely and exceptionally clean which is important to me. Furnishings were nice and comfortable. No Internet service at all. I don't mind for a weekend - but something to be aware of - it might matter to you. The Inn is in the country, you are a 10 minute drive to the small town of Crozet, 20-25 outside of Charlottesville. Upkeep of a home in the country has got to be very difficult, but could have been a little better in that regard. Again, not a deal breaker, but something to be aware of. Food was delicious and plentiful. Chickens on site provide fresh eggs every day! I would recommend the inn - but it has to be the right fit.
I want to commend Di and the staff at The Farmhouse B&B at Veritas Winery. We gave our son and his girlfriend a two night stay for a gift. They could not say enough about how wonderful their weekend was. I also want to say that the staff planned ahead to ensure that their stay was special.......including helping to arrange winery tour, preparing a picnic lunch and making sure their stay was perfect. thank you so much for making their stay so special ! We would highly recommend this B&B. It is a MUST to try !
Spent our anniversary weekend for second year, at lovely Farmhouse at Veritas. Enjoyed the 4 course chef prepared dinner paired with Veritas varietals. Dined outside and for romantic breakfasts as well. Room was luxurious and views incredible. Highly recommend this sweet spot.
We stayed two nights in the Farmhouse - we had the full downstairs that included two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large kitchen area and tv room. (This was the garden room and the Dogwood suite). It was nice to have so much space for our family of 4. the kitchen was nice, but not really appropriate for cooking since it does not have many dishes or plates, silverware, etc. The beds were very comfortable and the breakfast up at the main house was delicious! We enjoyed our stay very much!
After closing on home on July 31 with all the activity leading up to it, the two night stay at the Iris Inn gave me an opportunity to take a breath. I felt truly taken care of by the staff. The environment coaxed me to slow down and appreciate the moments leading up to the impending move with an eye to the possibilities of the future. This stay was a true gift to myself and the therapeutic effect for my mind and body was as I had hoped.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Foxfield this past weekend. The property is beautiful inside and out. Kathryn's breakfast was amazing, artful, wonderfully out-of-the-ordinary and a true treat. We enjoyed the Jacuzzi tub in the bath and the hot tub outside, as well as the gazebo. We explored the local area, but enjoyed Foxfield so much we made time to relax there. The sound system in the house and Bose radio en suite provided the perfect soundtrack for the weekend. We appreciated the personalized touches that came in the way of emails ahead of our visit asking about special dietary needs, notes about amenities, suggestions for dinner venues and evening wine/cheese. Thank you Dan and Kathryn for being the ultimate of hosts.
