We came to the Herkimer area for a historical event and so enjoyed our stay at the Portobello Inn for five nights. Roland is the most wonderful chef! Delicious breakfasts every morning and more food that we could possibly eat. The room was kept clean during our stay. I would heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in the Mohawk Valley region.
The rooms at the Bellinger Rose B&B were beautiful and clean. The hosts could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Jerry the cat was also very friendly. I have many food allergies but it was not a problem for them to make a special breakfast for me. The food was delicious.
We stayed here one night because it is conveniently located off the highway, the owners were very helpful with things to do, places to eat, and places to walk nearby. House is very clean, the beds were very comfortable. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
This is a lovely bed-and-breakfast right off route I 90. It feels more like a wellness spa than a bed-and-breakfast with a hot tub, far infrared sauna, easy walk to town, and lovely gardens and yard. Bed was comfortable, and the host we are most gracious with ideas for dinner, things to do, walking, and general information and history of the area. I would definitely stay here again and my travels take me through for Chris herkimer, New York
This inn was a feast - for the soul with the peaceful, luxurious room, for the eyes with the décor and antiques throughout the rooms, and for the palate with the wonderfully prepared and served breakfast. Thank you Roland. You made a memory!
Our stay was like going back to the days of Victorian Elegance with a beautifully set breakfast table with antique china and glassware accompanied by calming piano music and a delightful conversation with the Inn Keeper Chris. Our room was very clean and very comfortable with all the amenities one could need.
Stayed two nights - lovely property, beautifully furnished with great attention to detail. Comfortable beds, clean rooms. Roland took great care in providing a wonderful breakfast that I could eat, as I have food allergies. Delicious - and the care is priceless! Thank you and I will be back again!
My partner and I were attending the wedding of one of our best friends and we decided to treat ourselves and make it a weekend getaway. We're both so happy that we did! The B&B is wonderful, cozy, and charming. Roland was a spectacular host, making sure that we had everything we needed and were well taken care of. Our breakfast on both days was delicious, our room was spacious and clean, and the bed was very comfy. I could keep gushing over this place, we both highly recommend it. We're looking forward to going back in the fall/winter for another little getaway!
The Portobello Inn has all you expect from a first-rate bed and breakfast and more: a historic house furnished tastefully with interesting antiques, a comfortable bed for a great night's sleep, the gracious but unobtrusive hospitality of thoughtful and experienced innkeepers in Roland and Steve topped off by a delicious breakfast. By the way, did I mention the incredible breakfast?
Lovely 1800s inn located just outside city limits of Herkemer. Decorated with antique Italian furniture. Our room was lovely, roomy, with a gas fireplace to take the chill of the day off. The train rumbles by several times a day. We would return.
2nd time spending the weekend away from the kids and getting spoiled with breakfasts, massages, hot tub and sauna, All the amenities you could ask for and then some. Why go to a hotel when this is so much better and affordable. Private, romantic and relaxing. Hope to get back later this year. Thank you Chris and Leon. Mike and Anne Drenkalo
Great Job by the hosts. Roland was available when we knocked on the door. Rooms were clean and well appointed. Breakfast was both plentiful and freshly prepared, with a large variety of choices. The only thing I would note was that the electric fireplace in the room made a slight grinding noise - not even really an issue as we turned it off when we went to bed.
I arrived after dark, so could not see the lovely bones of this old home, but the even older home still standing from the early 1800's stands right next to this one, and its beautiful logs and old clapboards create an aura that can't be matched by many B&B's. The breakfast was incredibly tasty: crisp bacon, a piping hot cheese souffle, fresh muffins, fresh fruit and four juices. The owners are extremely hospitable and welcoming, making a stay as homey and comfortable as my own mom's. I will return again and again.
This is the second time that my wife and I have stayed here and we simply love this B&B. Chris and Leon are wonderful hosts (and cooks!) with some very friendly pets who make you feel right at home. The breakfast is excellent and the rooms are so cozy. We have stayed in two different rooms and both have been comfortable, clean, and beautifully furnished with antiques. The building and furniture are just so beautiful. I'm sure we will be going back when we next venture out to the Herkimer area!
Lovely room with sitting area. Modern windows and white noise machine muffled sounds from the state highway and passing trains. Roland was a considerate and gracious host and a fine cook, while Steve generously offered an abundance of information on local history. My room had a hair dryer, something not obvious on the website. There was a Keurig machine in the upstairs hall, plus a microwave and a tiny refrigerator with bottled water and space for small items, all near a sitting area in the hall. Roland even provided a proper dinner plate, utensils, and cloth napkin when I brought in some hot take-out food. The well water system might shut itself off unexpectedly in the middle of the night when drought conditions are present, but there's bottled water handy, and Roland resets the system as quickly as possible so that nobody is inconvenienced. An air conditioner and ceiling fan kept the room cool and comfortable. I had a most enjoyable stay.
Roland was the most gracious host - and was always available to answer questions and address a minor issue (which is to be expected at any historic home). Breakfasts were delicious and room was delightfully comfortable. Lots of antiques on the lower level - fun to explore! We stayed here to visit Cooperstown during HOF week - location is an easy 40 minute drive.
The room was lovely and clean. The breakfast was more than enough and delicious. The steep stairs were not good. All the antiques including the piano were really nice. And the host and hostess were attentive and professional.
We visited the area to go to the Herkimer Diamond Mines, and were very pleased with the Bellinger's proximity to there as well as the Canal Cruises, food etc. Leon and Chris were very personable and friendly without being too pushy. The breakfast was great and very easy to customize every day. The whole house was gorgeous, obviously well cared for and the dishes were exquisite. We stayed in the Heritage Rose room and were very pleased with it, the closet was huge, big enough to put suitcases etc in. The AC was great as it was pretty warm when we were there. One night we sat out back at the fire pit with the owners as well as another very nice couple, great way to relax! There was a sauna, treadmill and hottub available, though we did not use them this time, we will in the future! Their dog and cats were friendly but not too pushy, just adorable. We will definitely come back next time we want to go back to the mines :)
