You want so much when you travel. Maybe it isn't realistic. It doesn't matter we all want a lot and during vacation we want more. This was the first time we stayed at a bed and breakfast. For me the whole idea of it was weird so I didn't know what to expect. It was anxious about the whole thing. What we found though was that the whole experience was peaceful and calming. It is really a different experience than staying in a hotel. Warren and Janet are really nice. They are professional and provide a clean and delightful place with great food. You feel comfortable and safe. All of the amenities are there. I even studied at the dining room table one night so for me it was so comfortable like you are at home. That is the key I guess: it feels like home. Even thought it is someone's home it feels like home except you don't do any work. And that is the definition of a good vacation, comfortable and pleasant, right? I think so, so I loved it.
We were welcomed kindly and the decorations for the Christmas season were so inviting and cozy to kick off the spirit early in the season. I like when festive feeling comes directly after Thanksgiving and is celebrated for weeks before. The food was very good and we were given options for any needs. The sharing of house common rooms felt truly welcoming for evening time outside our room.
We spent a beautiful fall weekend at the James Manning House. From the delicious breakfasts, to the snacks and beverages that were available, we wanted for nothing! The relaxed, and cozy environment was just what we were looking for! Thank you Janet and Warren!
This was our 3rd stay at the James Manning House. My husband and I come to celebrate our anniversary each year(next year is on the books!) . Whenever we travel we stay at Bed and Breakfasts and this is by far the best we have been to. Janet and Warren are the nicest people- warm accommodating and gracious hosts! They handle special requests with ease and have struck the perfect balance between chatting with guests and respecting guests privacy. They clearly enjoy owning and running their Bed and breakfast and their passion shows! No detail is overlooked here and special touches are everywhere. The house and grounds are always beautifully decorated in every nook and cranny for the season, it is meticulously clean –but also very cozy and homey throughout the entire house, to us it feels like coming home. As far as the food- the breakfast menu is creative and the dishes served are filling and delicious with many ingredients from their own garden. If you go away hungry its your own fault!! Fresh baked treats ,beverages and other snacks are available anytime which is a very nice touch. Also be sure to check out Janet’s homemade jams. We always take several jars with us and enjoy seeing what new flavors she has come up with each year. We treasure our time at this BnB each year and would highly recommend it to anyone.
I have spent numerous multi-night stays at the James Manning House over the past two years while visiting family in the area, and it continues to be the most comfortable, most gracious, most enjoyable location available. It is without peer.
My wife and I were traveling to town for a wedding and realized there were no chain hotels nearby. A friend recommended this BNB and we couldn't be happier with the choice. Homemade breakfast was served each morning, and the innkeepers were incredibly accommodating for allergies and special requests. The bed was fantastically comfortable and we were delighted to have a clean, comfortable private bathroom. We also loved the charming decorations and convenient location near town.
We were privileged to stay at the James Manning House this summer for our anniversary. Wonderful accommodations, great breakfast and the peace we were seeking during our short getaway. Warren and Janet are very knowledgable as to local restaurants and attractions. Can't wait to return!
We just returned from our 8th multi night visit to James Manning House and are already planning number nine. Janet and Warren are amazing hosts who go above and beyond to make each stay memorable. You will not find a more charming and congenial place to relax a while. Breakfast is always delicious and plentiful with dietary needs taken into account. On a scale of 1 through 5 James Manning rates a Ten !!
From the moment you walk in the front door you feel like you are home. The rooms are comfortable and relaxing. The grounds are equally inviting, day or night. Janet and Warren are friendly, accommodating, and go the extra mile to ensure their guests feel welcomed and pampered. Breakfasts are delicious and a great start to the day. We always wish we could stay a bit longer.
My stay at the James Manning House was truly perfect. I was traveling for business in the area and decided to stay at this charming B&B for the duration of my stay (about 2 weeks). Janet and Warren are such warm, kind hosts, and quickly made me feel at home in this lovely place. My room was very warm and cozy (a must since the temps were in the single digits or teens the whole time I was there), and adorably decorated. I had a different breakfast every single day that I was there, and they were all so delicious I don't think I could pick a favorite. While I enjoyed my breakfast in the homey dining room each morning, Warren graciously cleaned off my car (it snowed several times during my stay) so that I could get out the door to work on time. Warren and Janet are absolute pros, and I'm so glad I decided to stay at the James Manning House. I look forward to returning on non-business travel soon!
My wife and I had an absolutely wonderful stay at James Manning House. The owners, Janet and Warren, were warm, friendly and very accommodating. We arrived on a rainy day and Warren met us outside with an umbrella and helped us in. How thoughtful. Once inside, we were greeted by Janet and a little welcome sign with our names on it. The house was adorable and filled with smells of comfort Each room was very cozy and decorated so nicely for the Christmas holiday - it felt "just like home." The rooms were perfect, traditional in the warmest kind of way with plenty of modern amenities. I was thoroughly impressed at how clean and well-kept our room was - as well as the entire house. And the breakfast served in the morning was hearty and delicious!! If you are looking for a quiet place to unwind (with plenty to do nearby if you choose) with owners who truly enjoy and aim to please their company, I highly recommend this B&B! It's a true gem and we will gladly return. Thank you Janet and Warren!
We were called to Honesdale, PA upon the untimely death of our dear nephew at age 41 from cancer. The James Manning House became a special source of comfort during this sad time. The delicious breakfast cuisine was rounded with foods from the house garden. The rooms were spacious, meticulously maintained and tenderly appointed. Even the bedsheets were something to rave about! The host and hostess were kind and made great conversation. We felt taken care of. If we are ever again in the Poconos, we will stay only here.
We do not travel much, but this has GOT to be one of the nicest B&B experiences out there! Janet and Warren are the perfect hosts - warm and welcoming, and showing great interest in us as guests. Great room, great breakfasts, great information and guidance. Next time we want to stay in this area we will not even consider anyplace else!
This was our second visit to the James Manning House and had a great time! This was our 35th Anniversary and the JMH made it special. This area in the fall is beautiful all by itself, but Warren and Janet seem to know everything that is happening in the region! From places to visit, places to eat and even scenic roads to travel, it is the best! We've already booked for next year! Oh yeah, if you leave breakfast hungry, you're too picky!
Home away from home. When visiting the area, which we do frequently, we stay at the James Manning House. Warren & Janet are warm and friendly hosts and really make you feel welcome the moment you walk in the door. The guest rooms are beautifully decorated, comfortable, spotless and filled with 5 star amenities. The common areas are equally comfortable, inviting, and relaxing. If you choose to stay in, there are plenty of board games, books and movies to enjoy. There are homemade cookies, brownies or scones to snack on with coffee or tea available around the clock. The outdoor area is lovely to walk through or sit and relax and take in what nature has to offer. If you choose to venture out, Janet and Warren are very knowledgeable about the area and events and provide lots of ideas based on your interests. Breakfasts are always delicious, made with fresh ingredients and you won’t leave the table hungry. Be sure to check out the varieties of homemade jams and jellies. We highly recommend the Manning House for a quiet getaway or a special occasion. We look forward to our next visit.
Was in town for a wedding and stayed in the Lancaster Room. Warren & Janet are warm, friendly and really make you feel welcome. Their breakfasts feature local delicacies and recipes. Everything was delicious. I would definitely stay here again. Would love to check out the yoga center on my next visit.
We're very picky, but James Manning House gave us nothing to complain about. Janet and Warren know so much about the area, they give plenty of tips to make the most of your visit. The quiet, gentle vibe of the house and grounds create a marvelous feeling of relaxation and well-being.
i have stayed here many times during the past year, and I have only grown in my enthusiasm and respect for the James Manning House. Warren and Janet are delightful hosts, welcoming without being intrusive. The setting is comfortable and beautiful at every season, the breakfasts are alone worth the stay, the rooms and the house are spotlessly clean -- just perfect.
This is an excellent BnB! Janet and Warren are so nice and genuine. About the house – very clean-spotless in fact, warm and cozy. The hosts have thought of everything and then some. They have a ton of books, movies and board games you may use if you want. A self serve fridge and snack area along with coffee and Tea area(with tons of flavor choices),wine glasses and bottle opener that was open for guest use 24 hours. The best part of this was the yummy homemade cookies always available. They also had a microwave for guest use if you needed it. They were kind enough to keep our wedding cake topper(since it was our 1 year anniversary) in their large fridge for us until we wanted it also which we greatly appreciated. Our room: We stayed in the Wayne room although I would stay in any of them. The room was as I said spotless and had a nice size bathroom and awesome shower. It also had a fireplace, seating area, robes plenty of towels, blankets and pillows. The room also had some special features such as fresh flowers, little dish of candy, shampoo, conditioner, soap, makeup remover cloths, hairdryer and a really useful"in case you forgot it" basket with a variety of items for guest use. The bed was large and very comfy. We spent a lot of time in the room reading, watching TV and relaxing. It was the perfect atmosphere for that! The Food: The breakfasts were tasty and beautifully presented and always several courses. The first day we had Angelic Bananas, scones, pumpkin stuffed french toast with an amazing pecan maple syrup and bacon. The second day we had baked apples, a sausage egg and cheese strata and toast with a selection of Janet's homemade jams. Each day also included several juice choices, coffee and tea. Everything was baked or made from scratch and was delicious and very filling. They want you to be full and graciously offered seconds of everything if you wanted it. Janet makes many different varieties of homemade jams and jellies and we got some to take home.
We were guests at James Manning House this past October for the first time. My husband and I received a warm welcome from Warren and Janet (in spite of our late arrival). Since we were the only guests that evening, they were kind enough to upgrade us to the larger suite. Our night was warm and cozy with the fireplace burning. The highlight of our stay was the delicious breakfast and the warm conversation. We will definitely be back soon and recommend to our friends! L&B
We had a great stay at the James Manning House. We have come to that area for years and learned so much more about the history of the area, the eating in the area and some shops in the area. The hosts were so interesting to talk with and also interested in what we had to say. They accommodated our every need. I would go back in the New York minute. It was a great time.
We first stayed here for several nights in July and when informed we were going back to the area for a family affair, we contacted Kathy for another reservation. Our experience in July was so nice, we wanted to come back and no longer stay at another area B&B we had for several years. Kathy makes the place work in many ways and the experience has been very enjoyable
My family and I took over the E. Kellogg B&B for several days in June for a family reunion (some others in the family stayed in a B&B a few houses away). Kathy was most gracious and helpful in our plans. All of us got together for dinner a couple of times at Kathy's. Using her grill, the kitchen and some utensils of her own we were able to have a great time and reconnect in a private setting rather than a restaurant. Kathy, thank you so very much! Don't be surprised if some of us show up again!
My husband, myself and another couple stayed with Warren and Janet for our second visit recently....They are so welcoming and warm...seems like we returned to old friends or even family when you are with them...wish we could get there more often.....maybe we will.....
We stayed at The James Manning House for my 40th birthday. It was a special birthday, and thus we wanted something nicer than your standard motel/hotel fare. The Manning House is quaint, quiet, and surrounded by picturesque, old-world type scenery. I love historical settings and old buildings, and The Manning house gives you a sense of being a part of history while still enjoying the amenities befitting a modern establishment. It's the best of both worlds. The owners were friendly without being intrusive, and the food was excellent. They always had various types of coffee available at all hours along with fresh-baked treats. This was important to a night owl and confessed foodie like me. I will go back one day which is saying a lot since I'm from the midwest, so getting to PA is not a hop skip and jump endeavor.
