We had another delightful stay at Maple Leaf Cottage Inn. Set in the dear village of Elsah, across from the bluffs and near the Mississippi, this B&B is the perfect spot for a peaceful getaway. We woke to a lovely chorus of birds singing, caught a glimpse of deer that had come down for some breakfast while we ate ours, and drank in the aroma of the flowering trees on our walk through town. Deborah, the host, is so friendly. We enjoyed a relaxing chat with her around the fire in the evening. She is very attentive to the needs of her guests, serving up a delicious breakfast tailored to your dietary needs. And she's happy to share with you tips on local places to dine and visit. The rooms are charming. A frequent visitor, I've stayed in several of them, and each has its own personality. This time, I stayed in the Maples, a personal favourite, because of the beautiful garden outside the front door, but also had my first stay in the Buggy Shop. The Buggy Shop offered us a place to gather and spend family time together. I'm looking forward to checking out the newly renovated Wash House on another visit.

We have had the pleasure of visiting this lovely B&B many times over the years. It changed ownership several years ago and we a few weeks ago. It had always been our favorite place to escape life and return to the simpler joys of peaceful surroundings in a quaint, beautiful tiny town. We were so delighted to see and experience the reblooming of this beautiful retreat. The new owners have breathed new life and spirit into this charming retreat. Their love and zest for the town of Elsah created in us, a joy we had not experienced. They are truly amongst the the most delightful innkeepers we have encountered, on our many stays at B&B's across America. Elsah is a wonderful destination B&B, as well as a simple get away for those of us, lucky enough to live close by. It is a quaint town and has lovely areas to explore. We chose to visit a nearby winery, overlooking the great Mississippi River, with absolutely stunning views. We received a great dinner recommendation from the owner and enjoyed a great and casual meal, close by. The lovely touches they have made to the Inn make it ever so more special. The fire pit outside, with chairs is so welcoming. We were even brought popcorn and lemonade, as we sat outside. Fresh cookies in our room were wonderful. And breakfast was a delicious treat. The Innfulfilled and then exceeded our expectations. We are so pleased to know that the tradition and history of the Maple Leaf Inn continues and grows.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 day stay at Maple Leaf Cottage Inn. The room was clean and inviting. It was everything that we expected in a Bed and Breakfast. The service and breakfast were very good . All of this tucked into a small village that was quiet and cozy. The decorations were the final touch that completed an exceptional time..

We stayed in the wash room, it's a stand alone building and it was very well decorated, as well as clean. The owner is the best, she goes above and beyond to make you feel at home, and you will.. If ever in the area again, I will definitely stay there again.. Thanks Deb, for a great stay, see ya again.. :)

This is a wonderful B&B located close to Alton and Grafton. Elsah is a very cute village and the Maple House Cottage in fits right in. Deb was a wonderful hostess and made us feel at home. We would definitely stay here again when in the area.

Take a trip back in time to the historical village of Elsah. I didn't have any idea that this place even existed. Not far from the river road, is a beautiful, quaint village where the Maple Leaf Cottage Inn resides. As you travel the peaceful roads lined with cobblestone homes, you immediately get caught up in the whimsy of the area. We were fortunate enough to stay in the "Buggy House". Deborah, who happens to probably be one of the kindest people I have ever met, gave us a full tour of our dwelling where buggies were once made and repaired. The once buggy house now serves as a quiet retreat with a babbling brook in the backyard. We traveled into Grafton to have dinner at the Grafton Oyster Bar (phenomenal) and returned to freshly picked flowers by the doorstep and enjoyed the most delicious marbled cake. There is a small general store in town with limited hours. They serve bottled sodas and featured many unique findings, including village souveniers. Deborah offered multiple times to get anything from the store that we needed. However, she thought of everything before we even arrived and we did not need a thing. The next morning, we drank freshly brewed coffee on our porch swing as we marveled at the well kept and overwhelming flower beds that surrounded the home. Later that morning, we were served the most amazing banana nut bread topped with cranberries and walnuts; a freshly chopped fruit salad (no out of the can fruit salad here!); sausage and bacon, and a variety of juices. We left knowing that we would make plans to come back again. I highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast. We comfortably fit three couples in the Buggy House.

Our first time at a B&B, 3 day weekend. Deborah was super helpful in helping with scheduling. Our room was the Maples. The room was pretty, quiet, clean, and relaxing. Breakfasts exceeded expectations, something new every morning. Night-time gathering at the fire-pit with wine/dessert was really nice. A friendly and fantastic weekend. We will be back. Cheers to Deborah and Tim !!!!!

A pretty, QUIET, and relaxing place to stay. Explore the tiny village by bike or walking. Deborah was very helpful in telling us things to do in the area.
This romantic room affords guests a view of the gardens with plenty of natural light. Enjoy a movie or reading in the comfortable rocker recliner. Imagine yourself soaking in an antique claw-foot tub, then relax in a cozy chaise for two. In the evening, you can dim the chandelier to a candle-light glow and slip into a luxurious four-post bed.
Adjacent to the Maples Room, this inviting retreat stands at the far end of the gardens. Inside you will find Victorian gables which came from one of Elsah’s original residences—now they serve as headboards for two cozy, queen-size beds. A light touch of neighboring Principia College is reflected in this guestroom. Picturesque views from the covered porch await you.

This suite carries you back in time with antique and vintage memorabilia which span more than 150 years. It served as the very first guest room in 1949. Retreat to this comfortable space which has a four-post bed, a full bath, and private staircase.
This charming cottage was originally built as a summer kitchen in the 1800’s. Later, it was used as the family wash house. The cottage stands as a separate building with an entrance from our gardens. You will find antique wash tubs, wringers, and scrub-boards throughout. This room features original pine floors and a comfy queen bed.
This large room offers a glimpse at Elsah’s rich history. It features two queen beds- one firm and one plush. Decorative silhouette cutouts of Elsah’s historic buildings and 1850’s picket fence adorn the walls above the beds. Step out to the private covered porch and enjoy a view of our vibrant gardens.
This historic home dates back to the 1960's. It started as a wagon repair shop. The original lettering advertising the business are still visible on the front of the house stating "Wagons and Buggies Made and Repaired". Take a step back in time and join us in the Historic villiage of Elsah.

My husband and I fell in love with this charming little town 25 years ago. When life presented us the opportunity, we were thrilled to become the new innkeepers of the Maple Leaf Cottage Inn- which began in 1949. We enjoy spending time with friends and family, traveling, entertaining, Ole Miss football and Cardinal Baseball. Our newest love is spoiling our granddaughter. The best part of running a B&B has to be meeting new people. They arrive as guests, but they always leave as friends.
