Supportive and friendly staff. Extra paid for small balcony with ocean view. Discovered balcony sliding door to room did not lock, and balcony easily accessible by adjacent room's balcony. Noisy intersection with remote parking.
Positives: Great location, friendly employees, clean. Negatives: Everything else! Air conditioner didn't work. Tv turned on, but cable was not connected, thus could only watch static with "no signal" message. If you only want to sleep, perhaps shower, but make sure to bring your own toiletries as none are provided, then consider staying here. For me I'll pay more and stay elsewhere!
Having just returned from a quick but lovely stat at this B&B I can highly recommend it. Margaret, Teresa, Bradley and Chef all go out of their way to make your experience relaxing, comfortable and memorable. The daily three course breakfast is outstanding. The daily wine and cheese presentation is fabulous. The rooms are charming, clean and lovely. Everyone at this B&B is gracious, welcoming and makes you feel like a VIP. Go and enjoy. Antoinette M. My mom and I stayed here in a room with a balcony; the beds were comfy and the view from the sundeck was great for breakfast! The only thing was the rooms were a bit small; asked for a cot the second night and it hardly fit. We also thought it was weird how they charge a lot of money for anything you might need (ie. a toothbrush, bottle of water). The parking was not as serious of an issue as everyone made it out to be; we actually only used their parking for one night because there were so many open spaces on the street next to hotel leading down to the ocean. Thanks for a great stay! Definitely book on BedandBreakfast for the best deal!!!
I walked out my room door and I was immediately outside and 100 yds from Ocean. I chose the cheaper room with outside entries, but I preferred it. They served a continental breakfast in my room or on the sundeck. I chose the sundeck and the breakfast would be brought to me within 10 minutes. The sundeck was clean and has great ocean view. The hotel is in the heart of La Jolla and so all restaurants and shops are within walking distance. For the downside, some people look for valet services, but don't stay here if that is what you are looking for because you have to unload your own luggage and park your own car a block away. Hotels with valet services are right next door with $100 or more added cost. This is not a B&B, but the front desk staff was friendly and helpful and was open 6am - midnight. This hotel is for LOCATION and good price and clean bed to sleep in.
Went here for a quick romantic getaway. The Grounds were absolutely gorgeous. I loved the location, so close to the village but still quiet. The three course every morning was marvelous, not to mention the array of fine cheese during the afternoons. The staff was always friendly and happy to help but not overwhelming. We had a great time and are sure to be back again and again and again.
This is my favorite place to stay San Diego. I have stayed there several times over the last few years and every time I reserve a different room. My favorite room so far is the Pacific View room. It was just like something you would see in the Costal Living magazine. We opened the windows while we slept and the ocean breeze was so refreshing to wake up to. The breakfast is always different and always good, but my favorite part is their homemade granola. I even purchase bags to take home with me. I put it on everything, yogurt, ice cream, milk and sometimes I just eat it by the handful. It is my way of taking a little bit of the experience home. I'm almost out, I guess I better start planning my next visit.
All the reviews are accurate. This is a small hotel next to the majestic La Valencia with OK service and amenities. The bad: 1) towels are incredibly rough and cheap. This is an easy fix- no idea why they haven't upgraded the towels; 2) there is a slight musty smell. 3) the complimentary breakfast is Costco quality pastries and OJ from concentrate. 4) there is no B&B feel here. 5) in hindsight I would book directly with properties listed here because when I booked my room, La Jolla Inn called to say they did not have availability, and then again a couple hours later to say they had a cancellation. But I knew all of this going in from other reviews, so if all you care about is a good location by the beach with $5 parking, this place fits the bill. Skip the plastic wrapped muffins and head to the Cottage on Fay and Kline for breakfast. They serve dinner in the summer too, except Sundays. Sign-up for their newsletter a few days before your trip and get a 20% off coupon.
For $200 a room (even in the off season) I expected much better necessities. The towels were of Motel 6 quality, and the breakfast was passable. I didn't expect to have to go to Starbbucks for coffee at a B&B. They expected you to drink the trash coffee they offer with the cheap machine in the room complete with the coffee grinds in the packet, excuse me! This is not really a B&B but a hotel that offers breakfast. But the location for the price was fine. Would I go again, not really. I would choose a hotel/motel and pay for my breakfast. The free parking was a nice benefit. I would give this a tad under 3 stars for the whole experience of 2 nights.
Great location. Great oceans views and access. Great value for the location. The only downside is that the parking is located two blocks away. The only thing that makes this workable is the loading zone in front of the Inn. I would definitely stay here again!
Having traveled extensively throughout the world on business and stayed in hotels where each new room was merely a photocopy of the last, imagine my surprise to discover the Bed & Breakfast Inn at La Jolla where I spent two wonderful nights on my visit to California from Britain. Eloquence, comfort, exceptional food, exemplary service. You might be forgiven for missing the entrance to the Inn on Draper St. since its understated exterior belies the beauty and opulance within. The Innkeeper gave me a tour of all fifteen rooms which comprise this real 'jewel' of La Jolla. Each room is distinct in theme and decor, with an attention to detail which is all but extinct in the industry of mass accommodation. Each morning I sat down to a wonderful homemade breakfast which made lunch completely unnecessary. So, I ate well. I slept well in quiet, tasteful luxury. Did I mention that it is impeccably clean? Large, impersonal hotels in this area are no longer an option.
The toilet was broken, the rugs were disgustingly dirty, the wireless internet did not work, and the last straw was the tub had been refinished but was so uneven I almost fell while taking a shower. It was very noisy because the inn is across the street from the night life. All this for over $200 a night. I complained and they did give me the option to move to a different room with a better shower and a working toilet but the internet still didn't work and the rug was also dirty. The breakfast was adequate cereal, sweet roll, coffee, etc. On the upside, you are in the heart of La Jolla and a block from the ocean. The owner needs to put some money back into the establishment.
I took my husband there for the fourth of July weekend. It was the most beautiful room and was a close walk to all of the restaurants and shops without. On the evening of the fourth we not only saw the fireworks at the cove from our balcony but also 2 other shows from the surrounding areas. We woke in the morning from one of the best sleeps we've had in a long time and walked the block to the beach and La Jolla Cove. The breakfast was delicious and perfectly portioned. The staff made our stay even more special. Always with a smile. It honestly is the best vacation so much so that we have made a promise that every few months we are going to come back for the weekend to recharge and relax. I would recommend The Bed and Breakfast Inn at La Jolla to everyone. It is now the only place we will stay in San Diego- ever!!
My wife surprised me for my 30th birthday with a three night getaway in the penthouse at the Bed and Breakfast at La Jolla. The room was amazing with tons of privacy, a huge private deck to ourselves where we watched three 4th of July fireworks displays in almost a 360 degree view which was pretty amazing. The staff at the bed and breakfast are the nicest people you'll ever meet as well and the breakfast is almost to much to describe...unbeatable. After breakfasts you're a stones throw from some of the coolest beaches I've seen in SoCal with ocean caves, seals, sea lions and tide pools. A great stay!
My girlfriend and I were able to get away from Los Angeles last weekend and were lucky enough to find the perfect beach location to experience San Diego & La Jolla. The inn was on a serene side street but only a few minutes walk to everything in downtown La Jolla. Even with all of the walking we did everywhere, it still felt like such a relaxing weekend. Our room was beautiful and the perfect place to sink into after a day of beach, zoo, great food and everything else we tried to fit into the weekend. All while relaxing, mind you! What we can't stop talking about are the breakfasts. Stuffed French Toast, Quiche, delicious fresh fruit dishes and great coffee. If you get a chance, take a glass of the sherry from your room out to the garden at night and enjoy the perfect end to a perfect day. We really couldn't have asked for anything more. The staff was smiling and gracious and they really know how to make you feel comfortable.
I had expected more of a B&B, not a hotel. But that could have been my mistake. Our room was very nice, end room with a kitchenette. But the location couldn't have been more beautiful. We walked for 2 days. Everything was within walking distance. The view was breathtaking from our balcony. All in all, it was a fun experience.
The room was miniature. The view of the ocean was peek-a-boo. The breakfast was like an inexpensive chain (dry cereal, coffee, muffin). They would not except a reservation over the phone with the cards and therefore we had to pay in full up front. When we saw the place we tried to cancel the rest of our stay but they said since it was paid for up front they wouldn't do that. Stuck we were and stuck we stayed. Janet
