We had a great time celebrating my wife's birthday at Orchard House. Deb and Mike were outstanding hosts and were easily reachable any time we needed something. The wine tour was excellent in that Mike provided great recommendations as to which wineries to tour and discounts were available to both wineries and local restaurants in the area. We would not hesitate to recommend to our friends.
Orchard House is exceptional! The value, amenities and comfort were perfection. We stayed four nights over the New Year and wished we could have stayed longer! The house is immaculate and attention is given to every detail no matter how small. The rooms are spotless and cozy and extremely comfortable. The setting is idyllic and the atmosphere inside and out is 100% relaxation. The B & B is centrally located to countless activities from shopping to hiking to wine tasting. We were so lucky to find Orchard House. The breakfast are culinary masterpieces and the servings enormous and we managed to eat every bite - especially the homemade pastries, muffins and tarts. Each room is delightful and welcoming. The showers are HOT and the towels plush! Coming home after a long day of touring we were met with warm cookies in the foyer. Could it get more perfect??? Thank you, Deb and Mike. You are the consummate hosts. I hope everyone gets the pleasure of staying at your B & B!! Chris from Penn Valley, PA.
So sad to have to return home after staying at Orchard House for 4 nights up to and including New Years. Luxurious comfort and exceptionally caring innkeepers; scrumptious breakfasts with HOMEMADE pastries, muffins and biscuits, cozy beds and excellent value! The setting is idllyic and every touch in every room is first class. We feel so privileged that we found Orchard House and will return!
Orchard House is the perfect place to relax, with its spacious and comfortable bedrooms and its pleasant common rooms; the breakfasts are excellent and fuel you for the day's activities. Orchard House is also close to many restaurants, wineries and distilleries, and tourist attractions, and Charlottesville is within easy commuting distance. Mike and Deb are wonderful hosts, pleasant to chat with and full of good advice about the area. This was our second stay, and we will be back.
We spent a very pleasant night at the Orchard House this week. The house is nice and the room we were in (Empire) was fine. The views were excellent and the hosts, Mike and Deb were friendly, warm and helpful. All in all, we thought it was good albiet a bit overpriced for the location.
Orchard House Bed and Breakfast in Nelson County, VA is truly an exceptional lodging experience. We have stayed in two different rooms and both were beautifully appointed, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The main difference between this and other B & B’s are the innkeepers, Mike and Deb. On our very first stay we were welcomed with a warm, friendly personal greeting and throughout our visit they were always available for questions about things to do, area restaurants, or just anything you may need assistance with. The property speaks for itself and the website pictures don’t begin to do it justice. Let the innkeepers chauffer you to an extensive vineyard tour complete with tastings or sit by the fire pit in the evening enjoying your favorite beverage. Lastly, the breakfast...Fresh, local foods prepared individually, with love and pride. Eggs, Benedict, French bread toast, waffles, fruit parfaits, and homemade cinnamon biscuits are only a sampling of the unique experience Mike and Deb create for every single guest. Once you visit Orchard House, you will never want to stay anyplace else in the area. We have been back 3 times and each visit is as wonderful as the last. Put Orchard House on your Bucket List. You won’t regret it.
Our trip to the Orchard house was fantastic, it snowed to put us all in the Christmas spirit, the decor of the house was outstanding, breakfast was over the top, and the host were super people. This place is a great hidden secret, a great get-a-way for family and friends, the winery tours are also fun to experience.
We went to Harmony Hill right after our wedding for a short weekend honeymoon. It was the perfect setting for us. We stayed in the Ballad Room that had a fireplace and Jacuzzi tub. Wendie was fantastic as we made our trek down to Arrington. She communicated everything that we would need if we arrived later than usual. The inn is well appointed and the decor leads to a country charm feel. The setting among the quiet rolling hills of rural Virginia cannot be beat. We went on a hike to Crabtree Falls. Then had a glass of Melon Wine at Hilltop Winery and enjoyed a few beers at Wild Wolf Brewery. We would definitely recommend staying here and will be back soon!
This is an absolutely charming bed and breakfast with wonderful hosts, Deb and Mike. The setting is beautiful, accommodations plush and food is delicious. Mike had lots of info for us regarding best hiking trails in the area. The setting with the vineyards, gazebo, fire pit and pond are so relaxing. All the rooms are inviting and so comfortable. This is an old house with so much charm and detail. We can't wait to return!
This is a beautiful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. The property is picturesque and the inn is beautiful. We stayed in the York Imperial room which was spacious and offered wonderful views. The breakfasts were AMAZING. And we loved our personal wine tour. Deb and Mike were fantastic hosts and we look forward to our next visit!
Our second visit to the area and first stay with MIke and Deb. We found them to be both charming and an excellent source of knowledge about places to go and things to see in the area. Very personable and great conversationalists as well. I can guarantee our next visit will find us staying with them again. And there will be a next visit. Next to a very unique B & B we stayed at in Jamestown, N.Y., our favorite B & B ever. Seriously.
We — two sisters from the Washington DC area exploring beautiful Virginia countryside in Nelson County — found the perfect bed-and-breakfast in Orchard House, set back from Route 29 just outside the county seat of Lovingston. The driveway winds uphill to the main house, and once there all you see is sky; trees and forest near and far; lawns and the vineyard; and such man-made “extras” as a fountain and a firepit. Inside, the house is charmingly appointed, often in that wonderful sepia-toned way that gives you the best of “the old days” with none of the downside. Our bathrooms (we had two rooms) were strictly today: gleaming and delivering exactly what you want and need. Our bedrooms (lovely views) were both spacious and cozy, with beds that could win prizes for comfort. The house was divinely quiet during the night. We were surprised at breakfast to realize there were so many other occupants of the house besides ourselves! And speaking of breakfast, ours was sumptuous and delicious, with coffee available beforehand. Note: When having dinner the night before, leave room for breakfast. Your host and hostess, Deb and Mike Verplank — who have created the Orchard House of today — have a wonderfully light-filled dining area where you are seated with views of surrounding nature while Deb and Mike treat you to an elegant morning meal. All in all, Orchard House is a place you’re glad you found, and the Verplanks are people you’re glad you know.
My husband picked the Orchard House Bed & Breakfast as our "fall" getaway. The innkeepers, Mike & Deb were WONDERFUL......couldn't ask for better accommodations, and the breakfasts' that both Mike & Deb prepared each morning were so delicious and filling. They were also knowledgeable about all the activities going on and around Nelson County. We will definitely come back to visit these fine folks.
