We stayed at Bishops Hall for the weekend and had the nicest stay. The home was stunning and the room was comfortable and well-appointed. Set in a quiet, mansion-filled neighborhood, the home is a ten minute wall from restaurants, activities and the Frank Lloyd Wright home. Breakfast both mornings was delightful. We would highly recommend Bishops Hall to others while visiting Oak Park or Chicagoland.
My husband and I spent a long weekend at Bishops Hall at the end of an intense few weeks of grandkids and family reunions and road trips--and it could not have been more rejuvenating! Charles Tupta is the epitome of the gracious, helpful and approachable host. We stayed over 4th of July weekend and in fact he had given his long-serving housekeeper a holiday, so he was doing much of the cooking and cleaning himself--and he even gave us a ride to the el station one morning. The home is so well-appointed and authentic that it is breathtaking, and yet it doesn't have that pretentious feeling that makes you afraid you'll break something. Never have we had such a perfect B & B experience--and we would highly recommend it. The rates are reasonable, the food is delicious and the location is convenient, in a quiet upscale neighborhood in Oak Park with easy access to downtown Chicago.
This is an amazing value with high style to boot. Amenities include free parking, wifi, all day snacks and beverages (soft and adult). Each room is charming, with a different theme. We received a complementary upgrade. Breakfast was organic, hormone free and delish. The innkeeper Debbie gave excellent recommendations for dining, and was very helpful point us to local gems. Walking distance to high end shopping.
This treasure is located in the heart of Old Chicago's turn of the Century mansions of Oak Park. You can walk to 2 dozen of Frank Lloyd Wright's most famous early Designs. Bishop's Hall is a different example of the architecture of that early 20th century era. The owner makes the entire home open and accessible to his privileged guests. Charles is more interesting than his estate with colorful stories to add to his breakfast affairs.
My wife and I stayed two nights in the Coral and Blue Room and from the moment we walked into the entry of Bishops Hall, we knew our stay was going to be truly special. Charles, the owner, had furnished the entire building with an amazing collection of paintings, china, window treatments, area rugs, books, personal photographs, and so on. Think Downton Abby's interior, and you'll have a sense of what Bishops Hall looks like. Charles is the perfect host with a wealth of life experiences that he graciously shared with us. Our stay was the perfect get-away for us.
Charles is a very gracious and doting host. His vast knowledge and experience makes the stay educational and time passes too quickly. I felt truly at ease and was able to navigate the charming area thanks to recommendations and precise direction.
My husband and i stay 2 nights in October and that was a treat . if you love beauty refinement and class Bishop Hall is the place to choose . Charles is a gentleman and his magnificent home is filled with antiques , porcelain , crystal , paintings etc .... I am from France so for me looking at his Limoges and Baccarat crystal ware was pure joy . He upgrade us in the best suite which is an amazing apartment decorated with the finest furniture . Bed is so comfortable , everything there is about beauty and class . Charles serve a delicious breakfast ( his eggs Benedict are wonderful ) in such a lovely decor with Italian Blue Spode China . We wish we have stay longer and know more Sam , Charles partner . Both are very considerate and wonderful people . I look forward to return to Oak Park and stay in that exceptional property .
As first time B&B goers, my husband & I were thrilled at our experience at the Homestead. Chef & Mary Kay immediately made us feel right at home. I don't think I need to try any other B&B- I;ll just come back here!
We were in town for a wedding and had the pleasure of staying at Bishops Hall. Since the moment we arrive the staff was extremely gracious and attentive to our every need. They provided great recommendations for places to eat and things to in the area. Our room was fantastic. Clean and spacious with ammeties to spare. The owners' attention to detail both in decor and with their guests is second to none. If you are visiting Chicago I highly recommend staying at Bishops Hall.
We were in town for a wedding and from the moment we walked in the door the proprietors took care of us, eager to make our stay as pleasant as possible. They made wonderful recommendations for attractions and dining in town. The home is exquisite and amenities are top notch. We would recommend the inn to anybody needing a couple nights in the Chicago area.
I was in town for business. All the hotels in the city were booked so I had to find an alternative. I could not have gotten luckier by booking the Yellow Room at Bishop's Hall! Could you ask for better location than Oak Park? (the answer is no). The whole house is stunning, the rooms were perfect, and breakfast got better each morning. Any time I am back in Chicago and I will certainly call Sam and Chuck for a room! Of all the places I've ever stayed in Chicagoland, this was probably the nicest and most relaxing. When you go, don't forget to ask about Schultzie the Schnauzer Dog! :)
A wonderful and charming place to gather with friends. Our Hostess was not only gracious but charming and knowledgable. Greeted with fresh homemade lavendar cookies at check-in and wine and cheese in the evening. It was a wonderful place to laugh with friends or just curl up in one of the many private spaces with a good book. We enjoyed walking the beautifully landscaped property and sitting outside to enjoy the patio and ambience. The rooms were clean, comfortable and charming. My friends and I will definitely be back again! Peggy B.
The Kollat Room is charming and cozy, it is all I needed after a long day driving. Everything very clean. A very beautiful place. I was also glad I could walk to take the train and enjoy some reading. I would for sure come back.
This is a beautifully restored mansion and yet the hosts have made it very cozy so you do not feel intimidated by the fine furnishings but can relax into them. Each evening we were treated to wine and cheese or fresh cookies from the oven. Breakfast was always sumptuous and plentiful enough that there was no need for lunch! I stay at bed and breakfasts a lot and this is the best so far.
Whether you are looking for a romantic get-away or just for some place to get some peaceful rest, look no further. I lodged here for several nights while on a working trip, and I cannot recommend a better environment. The Homestead B&B provides the most comfortable and homey service one could ask for. The architecture is beautiful, the beds are beyond comfortable, and the morning breakfast is delicious. Mary-Kay and Chet are the kindest pair you could meet and do everything they they can to make sure your stay here as pleasant as possible. The home itself has a fascinating history dating back to the late 1800's and provides you a deep appreciation for the space. This is without a doubt the place to be for any occasion. Highly recommended.
To be honest, I was a bit skeptical when I was set to stay at this location. I had never stayed in a bed and breakfast and was concerned about a number of things such as privacy, internet access, freedom to come and go, etc. I can safely say that Chuck and Sam put each and every reservation to rest. The check-in was painless and they took me to my room. I was absolutely awestruck by the beauty and ammenities. I did receive an upgrade and, I hate to say, am probably spoiled for life. The room was huge; with the bedroom coupled with a sitting room and office area (including a gas fireplace), a seperate dressing room/ closet, a gigantic bathroom with a walk-in steam shower. The decorations were beautiful and it all had a very "at home" feel. The bed was firm (just as I prefer) and it was very quiet and peaceful. I woke the next morning as calm and rested as I can ever remember. The breakfast was excellent; they met my special dietary needs and it was very tasty. Even the breakfast room was calming. The rest of the house was immaculately clean and decorated to amazing detail. All in all, I honestly can't remember a couple of nights on the road in which I enjoyed the time after hours as much. I feel refreshed, recharged, and look forward to returning in the near future. Thank you, Chuck and Sam, for making me feel so welcome and "at home". Blessing on you as you continue this amazing service and hospitality. Ken
Thank you Mary Kay for treating me like a member of your family. I grew up in the area, but most of the family has move to the surrounding towns. So instead of picking a "fight" with siblings, I picked your place (in the center of them all). I am so glad I did!!! Your place is so warm and inviting and perfect for a weekend getaway or to spend the holidays. The 1850's charm of the house made it feel more like home than a bed and breakfast. The food was amazing and the service was wonderful. If I am ever back in IL, please keep the light on for me.
Just returned from a girls getaway at The Homestead and it was just what I needed! Cozy, welcoming, amazing murals and very clean! Lots of warm, inviting places to curl up with a good book or fun magazine with a glass of wine. We enjoyed lunch in Yorkville and all the adorable boutiques and antique shops in Morris. Can't wait for a return visit - my husband might even get to come along the next time.
