Left FL ahead of Irma with no destination in mind, and found this incredible B&B! Chef Dannie is talented in so many ways and is facinating himself. Inn really is indescribable - see for yourself!

Great B and B

We stayed here for one night last week. The service, helpfulness and friendliness can't be beat. We spent an afternoon walking around downtown Shelby. Nice area with plenty of food and drink options. Mart's breakfast and tour of the historical home was very interesting. If he has the sausage for breakfast don't miss it. It was great.

Weekend Getaway

5 en julio 31, 2017

We had a wonderful time at the Inn of the Patriots! Chefs Marty and Stormy and the staff were absolutely wonderful. We felt welcomed and well taken care of while we were there. The daily breakfast was delicious and meeting new people was an added bonus. The time we spent together each morning exploring the inn and learning fun facts and information about our Presidents was an enjoyable learning experience we won't soon forget! We highly recommend staying at the Inn of the Patriots!!

Anniversary Delight

5 en mayo 13, 2017

We celebrated our 10th anniversary at the Inn of the Patriots and it was a wonderful experience. Relaxed atmosphere and a beautiful room along with fantastic breakfasts. You have to try the red velvet pancakes! And Marti gave memorable and entertaining tours sharing historical facts about some of our presidents along with some hilarious inside stories. Put this Inn on your " must experience" list.

Great weekend getaway

5 en mayo 11, 2017

Super friendly hosts and staff, comfy room, great recommendations on what to do over the weekend and where to eat in Shelby, yummy breakfast. (Don't be late, or you'll miss it!) Just what we needed for some R&R time. Will enjoy returning!

Interesting Stay

4,2 en mayo 10, 2017

Room was fine, but shower was (literally) in a closet so the wife complained. Breakfasts were very good. Could stand to have a few more little things that we have gotten used to at other B&Bs (such as hot cookies at night, coffee any time any wine and cheese upon arrival) but still very good service. Not a whole lot to do in the area!

Inn of the Patriots

A great place for history and happy moments

5 en abril 04, 2017

We stayed at the Inn of the Patriots for our anniversary getaway and had a wonderful time. Martin is a great cook, serving a feast of home cooked, locally grown foods every morning. He also conducted tours of his ever growing presidential museum each day, offering a wealth of information about what happens behind the scenes at the White House. Enjoyed it all.

Fascinating Inn

Great getaway!

A unique bed and breakfast that provided us with a fun filled but relaxing weekend. History & presidential buffs will love chef Marti's one of a kind, daily, eccentric tours of the culinary museum. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the cooking class as well. Wine tasting & fine dining will round out your stay.

The museum through out the house is awesome. Martis knowledge and experiences he shared were unbelievable and just so interesting. I would recommend to anyone who needs a relaxing get away.

Living and eating with history

First, this is a lovely home with charm. We were welcomed as if we were family. The culinary tour gives one so much insight into the Presidents and their wives. The food was so incredible, and we savored every bite. We enjoyed every minute at this Inn and would visit again. Thanks so much for everything.

Very enjoyable!

5 en marzo 11, 2017

We had a great time. Cooking class was fun. There was so much history around the Inn and Marti was so willing and eager to tell us stories. We learned a lot and had fun doing it. We would love to go back for another stay.

I Love This Place

4,8 en febrero 22, 2017

BOBRICOTTA.COM My wife and I have stayed in bed and breakfast type accomodations literally all over the world. This "bed-and-breakfast" is one of our favorites. It is unique in that Marti, the owner/chef prepares an outstanding breakfast combined with a unique history lesson in the museum (a part of the facilities). I would highly recommend making this a meaningful and enjoyable part of your travel agenda!

Wonderful stay!

5 en febrero 18, 2017

We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to come back again! The hospitality was the best and the breakfast was really delicious. So much to see and do. We enjoyed learning about past presidents and the White House. Definitely a B&B that we want to return to!

Delicious, relaxing, comfy, inviting! What more can you ask for in a B&B?

5 en febrero 11, 2017

Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay!! The room was so very comfortable, the breakfast was delicious both days, the staff very friendly, helpful and welcoming, and the cooking classes and the history "tour" were fascinating!! We had a fabulous time there, very relaxing, enjoyed the small town nearby for shopping in all the great little boutique type stores and the restaurants, and just felt like we were at a "home away from home"!! Marti was very interesting and informative, didn't get to see much of Stormy on this visit, but we hope to be back again soon!! Great B&B, great hosts , and a great time!!

Great experience! The museum tour was the best.

4,0 en enero 30, 2017

The house was beautiful and you felt like you were back in that era. Marty does an amazing job at telling the stories and the food, "Awesomely Delicious!". I'd recommend everyone to try this historic place.

Weekend getaway

4,8 en enero 26, 2017

Food is amazing!!! Museum tour was great, Chef Martie is a great personal tour guide, not to mention his knowledge of the history of N.C. He will explain how and when NC became what it is today. The character he becomes during the tour is funny, whitty, and extremely knowledgeable of the past presidents and/or The White House. I'm not a history buff but truely enjoyed his explanation, energy and detail that he processes during the your. Although there is not a lot to do in the town of Grover, it is a perfect place to get away and just slow down. There are things to do with a short drive. All around, awesome experience!!!

Great Weekend at the Inn of the Patriots!

4,6 en enero 25, 2017

Great Inn! Marti goes above and beyond to make sure you know all of the fun places to go and also offers an interesting history tour.

No problems, just fine!

Best Anniversary Ever!

4,2 en enero 19, 2017

My husband and I spent our 29th Anniversary at the Inn of the Patriots in Grover, NC. The house is warm and friendly, the rooms are decorated with the finest detail and very clean. The bed linens were so very soft and comfy. Most impressive was the staff and the home style breakfasts. Everything from the homemade dry cereal, sausage, pumpkin pancakes, homemade syrups, ketchup, and preserves. It felt like we were visiting lifelong friends and we are already planning to return.

Fabulous stay!

5 en enero 06, 2017

Loved the home, it's location, and area! The food was incredible and met some interesting people. Definitely will go back!

Magical Christmas Getaway

5 en enero 05, 2017

We loved our first B&B stay at the Inn of the Patriots. Our host was gracious and helpful, and all the magical Christmas lights in the area (which they keyed us into) allowed for a lovely weekend getaway that made our season magical. The spacious and comfortable rooms, the amazing food, and the museum tour all came together to give us something completely unexpected and delightful. We look forward to making it a new tradition for us, and are so grateful we were able to truly experience this magical place.

A wonderful new Christmas Tradition

5 en diciembre 22, 2016

We had never been to a B&B before the Inn of the Patriots. We were a little lost as to what it would entail, but we were happy for a new adventure. Marti could not have been more welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed delicious food in the area, then set about an excursion in a Christmas Light wonderland before nestling down into cozy, snuggly room, perfect for a weekend getaway or a much longer stay. Breakfast in the morning was scrumptious, and the tour of the on-site museum was a treat with a fantastic tour guide (Marti again!). We were incredibly sad to leave, and cannot wait to make it a new family tradition.

Lopvely escape

5 en diciembre 13, 2016

We had no plans, but to rest and relax and regroup. There were some local wineries, historical battle ground in King's Mountain (minutes away) and a cute town of Shelby with surprisingly great food (go to the Ni Fen Bistro!) Unplug if you can, and allow yourself to just wander and have fun during the day/evenings, but get ready for amazing break feasts! (aka breakfast)

We enjoyed a great weekend at the Inn of the Patriots for our 21st wedding anniversary. The breakfast was awesome. My husband especially loved the eggs. There is a lot of history there and we especially liked the stories that the chef shared. We will definitely go again. Thanks Inn of the Patriots for a memorable weekend..

Great for Getaways!

4,6 en octubre 08, 2016

My husband and I did a quick getaway last weekend. We visited the Cowpens National park, and then spent the night at the Inn. Very clean and inviting, great memorabilia around the entire Inn, and the owners are informative and welcoming!! We highly recommend!

Definitely give this a visit.

4,6 en octubre 01, 2016

From the moment we stepped into the inn we correctly surmised this was going to be a good experience. The ambiance and the owners, Marti and Stormy, were friendly and welcoming. We were given The Baby Ruth Room, named for Cleveland's daughter. This room had no bathroom per se, however the owners had cleverly made one closet a shower and another a toilet area. While this made the shower a bit claustrophobia inducing, it beat having to go up the hallway to the shower. Beds are extremely comfortable and lots of electrical hookups are available for our digital world. Breakfast is provided at a long dining table. Everything from the first sip of coffee to our final day's pumpkin pancakes was delicious, as it should be coming from the kitchen of a former White House chef. Marti's tour of the house and presidential memorabilia, and his White House insider stories were very enlightening. Our full day's visit to the area included nearby King's Mountain National Military Park, SC; Owl's Eye Winery, and a delicious meal at Ni Fen Bistro in Shelby, NC. Highly recommend a stay here.

Great Stay

5 en septiembre 29, 2016

My husband and I decided to take a very small late anniversary trip this year. We just bought a house so the budget was tight. I bought a Living Social to The Inn of the Patriotists and decided to take a chance on a new destination. Our one night stay came with two free wine tastings at two different vineyards (Owl’s Eye and Baker Buffalo Creek), a Cider Flight at the local wine market, a free dessert, and a free appetizer. You really can’t beat this deal!! We went to the Vineyards on Saturday and arrived at about 5:00pm at the Inn. Kim greeted us and showed us around the place. It was very easy to check in. We stayed in the Baby Ruth Room. There is a private toilet room and then a separate private shower. They were both very small but, we knew this ahead of time. The room was quiet and peaceful. There is a beautiful front porch if you want to relax and enjoy some wine or tea. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful. We also enjoyed the tour of the inn with Marti. He loved giving us a history lesion which I very much appreciated. The little insights were wonderful. He was very animated. I also love that they want to help disabled veterans. Shelby is about 20 minutes away with a cute downtown area with a brewery, wine market, and some other cute restaurants and shops. We also hiked Crowder’s Mountain on Sunday. If you like the outdoors then that is a great spot. We truly had a great one night weekend getaway.

Great Place For. Quick Getaway

4,8 en septiembre 18, 2016

Found this place on Living Social while I was looking for something to do for my wife's birthday. The place was truly a gem. The room was filled with historic relics and the bed was cozy. Breakfast was amazing too and is served family style, so we had nice conversation with other guests.. Definitely worth the money. Just wished we had arrived earlier.

Authentic and Delicious!!

5 en septiembre 07, 2016

If you want to relax, learn, and really dine, visit the Inn of the Patriots and enjoy the comfy rooms, abounding historical connections, and Chefs Marti and Stormy's excellent, mouth-watering breakfast!!

Good time in little known town

3,4 en agosto 15, 2016

We were looking or a quick getaway where we could enjoy some peace and quiet. Less than an hour from our home we discovered The Inn of the Patriot. Marti was a geneous host - greeting us at the door and quickly checking us into our room. The house was ours to explore with a wonderful tour the next morning. After staying in several bed and breakfast type inns over theyears - this is what we expected. However the shower "room" was too small to actually use. Skip the gift shops on site...the same stuff you find at Williamsburg. Would have appreciated a better selection of eclectic one of a kind items. Overall - very nice and enjoyable!

Love this B & B!

Each room was uniquely decorated, food was delicious and staff was really nice. My only complaint is the bed was really uncomfortable.

Enjoyed our Stay!

4,6 en julio 21, 2016

My husband and I stayed at the Inn, July 4th. We took the lunch cooking class and learned how to make pizza and wonderful bread. The room was much larger and the bathroom nicer than the pictures. The whole experience was well worth the trip. The innkeeper is so interesting, that I would do it all again. It was a very nice 2 night get a way.

Very nice B&B. Excellent breakfast.

Very nice B&B. Excellent breakfast.

5 en julio 19, 2016

One of the best B&B's we have ever stayed in; the culinary and White House history was fantastic. breakfast 5 star and restaurant in Shelby also outstanding. Highly recommend.

Two nights at the museum

3,8 en julio 12, 2016

We very much enjoyed our stay. It was something different, we learned a lot, beds were comfy, A/C definitely cooled well, lots of opportunities to interact with other guests and a good breakfast. Our room had a flat screen TV on which the music channel was playing pleasantly when we came in. Fake flowers inside and outside are not our thing and contribute to the cluttered look. Most importantly Marty and his staff were very friendly and attentive. The website on his PC gave us great detailed information about the area, restaurants and places to see. Shelby is a nice town with treelined streets, a cool brewpub and many restaurants. The recommended Ni Fen Bistro was excellent.

Wonderful, historic inn with friendly, professional service

4,8 en julio 06, 2016

Chef Marti gives a wonderful history lesson of the area as well of some tidbits of presidential foods. The rooms are a nice size and themed with private baths. The breakfast is far more than what one would expect! Everyone who is staying there is served at the same time which encourages conversation of other patrons.

Loved it.

4,0 en julio 02, 2016

The breakfast was superb. The rooms were comfortable. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Marti is great!

Enjoyable Experience

3,8 en julio 01, 2016

Only stayed one night, but have a great memory to recall. Breakfast had new to us, delicious dishes to try and a homey, comfortable setting. Loved the rural community, peaceful and relaxing. B and B is close to great restaurants, Gastonia, NC and antique shops. Will not hesitate to return one day if we get the chance.

Interesting B&B

4,6 en junio 27, 2016

This is an interesting B&B because it is also a museum. The owner was a former presidential chef and has some interesting stories to tell. We were introduced to some interesting places to visit. We went to the King's National Park, 2 different wineries and some very good restaurants.

Cozy but room to improve

Don't miss this one

4,8 en junio 10, 2016

My wife and I spent two nights here for our 25th anniversary. I am former military and greatly appreciated the history and Revolutionary artifacts presented in this historical home. Couple that with the incredible knowledge and culinary skills of the owners made this visit memorable. We will visit again soon.

Great B&B

5 en junio 08, 2016

Great place to stay. Chef Marti is a wealth of historical knowledge. Would go back again and take the cooking class.

Wonderful Memorial Day Weekend

5 en junio 02, 2016

My wife and I enjoyed a two night stay at the Inn of the Patriots in Grover, NC. The accommodations were great ( we stayed in the Colonel Cleveland room) and the breakfast each morning was wonderful. Chef Marti, the owner, is a walking history tour and takes great pride in sharing the historical facts of the region, as well as his experiences while in serving as Chef in the White House and at camp David. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to a return visit.

Historic Stay

5 en junio 02, 2016

On a recent stay we enjoyed a comfortable themed room with lots of amenities, friendly and helpful host, delicious breakfasts, located near historic battlefield with an inviting front porch to unwind. Marti is eager to share his various chef experiences and provide a tour of his numerous collections with many interesting details.

Nice Weekend Getaway to Remember

3,8 en mayo 26, 2016

A personal welcome by Marti was a very nice touch. He took us to a short tour of the property and gave us some history lessons. The Inn was spacious, and was literally packed with history and war memorabilia. Our room was large, filled with, again, memorabilia pertaining to the theme of the room. The bathroom was split into toilet and shower, apparently due to the original layout of the house. The bed was comfortable and everything we needed was provided. Marti recommended paces to visit in the area, especially the two nearby vineyards and wine tastings. Dinner at Ni Fen was very good in DT Shelby. Breakfast was home cooked all the way. Delicious and delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed the cooking class. We didn't know you could make a basic dough and turn it into so many different breads, and every bit we baked turned out amazingly good. All good things had to come to an end at some point, and that point in time came too soon. Thanks to Marti and his very friendly and helpful staff.

Patriot Stay

Food was outstanding. First time at a B & B. Wonderful experience.

Very relaxing environment

4,0 en mayo 09, 2016

My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary at this lovely inn. Marti was very hospitable and made it clear he wanted our stay to be as enjoyable as possible. We loved our room (the Magnificent Polynesian), displayed with all the items the owners had accumulated during their travels in Asia. For a history geek like me, the historical tour through the Presidential Museum was wonderful. I especially loved the Presidential dinner china. It's close to Shelby, which had a surprisingly lovely downtown area. Although on the pricey side, if you are looking for a unique experience, then this inn should be on your list.

5 en mayo 04, 2016

Stayed in the Col Cleveland room for 2 nights, it was cozy and comfortable. Our host Marti had many tales of his service time as a chef in the White House and Camp David. the breakfasts were hearty and the bed comfortable. which is what you want at a b and b. make sure to try Ni Fen restaurant in Shelby. and chimney rock state park. one thing I would recommend Marti change is either start breakfast at 830am or delay the tour/presentation till 1000am to allow the guest to enjoy the b and b experience of lively conversation.

Wonderful, last minute getaway!

4,8 en mayo 01, 2016

Hats off to Chef Marti and the Inn of the Patriots for an awesome last minute getaway! We enjoyed our stay in the Babe Ruth Room, the bed was so comfortable. We were greeted promptly at 9a for a gourmet, hearty breakfast. The tour was very informative and the authentic pizza cooking class we took alongside our stay was great as well. Will definitely be back for more!

Fun Cooking Class

5 en abril 28, 2016

What a blast my wife and I had. My wife enrolled us in a cooking class for my birthday. Can I just say Chef Marti is awesome. We had a great time learning and eating that day. The B&B is neatly done and full of history. My wife and I did not stay over night at the Inn but we have planned to return for her birthday in a a few weeks. What a great place and a great experience.

Nature and Earth Room

Our second visit was just as pleasant and relaxing as our first three years ago. Our room was very comfortable with a new king bed and roomy bathroom with full tub and shower. My husband and I stayed one night. The room (nature and earth)was so cute. Bed was very comfortable and the shower was amazing. My favorite part was probably that porch! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Inn of the Patriots. Marti is a gifted story teller and knows so much history! The food was excellent. The bed was luxurious! We felt very welcomed as soon as we checked in. The winery tour and downtown dining were excellent. Such a peaceful place!

Excellent Stay

4,6 en marzo 14, 2016

We were looking for a place not too far away to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Glad we picked Inn of the Patriots. We stayed in the Polynesian room - very comfortable and great asian decorations (note: while the toilet area is small, the shower is decent sized and has good water pressure). Marti was a great host and prepared and tasty breakfast. He then led a tour of the Culinary Museum and the other items obtained through their travels.

One of Our Favorite GetAways!

5 en febrero 29, 2016

This was our third visit to Inn of the Patriots, and we had a wonderful time. Marti and Stormy prepared a special Happy Birthday welcome package for our room complete with wine and chocolate! We truly enjoyed our time at The Inn of the Patriots. Marti and Stormy provide a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some of the good old country life and simple relaxation. Make sure they serve the house-made breakfast sausage during your stay.

An excellent place for a fun getaway

Great cooking class, great history lessons and just a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Just what was needed for us in a rather tough period. Don't let the immediate surroundings fool you, there are plenty of things to do, particularly to relax, and it is well worth it.

Historic and very interesting B&B

4,8 en diciembre 07, 2015

Owners Mark and Stormy were great host and hostess. They have truly poured them selves into this B&B. Mark's tour after breakfast was very interesting because he is not only a chef but also an actor who entertained us with stories and history. They have connections to several local business that offer perks to those who stay at the B&B. A fun and interesting outing for us.

Great Stay

Charming, informative and fantastic breakfast are all part of the stay. Chef Marti is a wealth of insight into the White House. He also supplied a good deal on points of local interest. We had a very enjoyable visit.

It is our love for service that keeps us going and to serve our guests on their agenda, not ours. Whether it is a tea request, gluten free pancakes or anything at all, we love serving! Thank you for always coming back to allow us to host and serve thee.

Intresting stay

What a nice place to relax, be pampered and educated. Chef Marti was a great source of information both about his Inn's history and museum. He also provided much information about the local area. Best of all was the wonderful Breakfast that was served.

Wonderful Family Inn

Inn of the Patriots is a wonderful get-away in a quaint little town. It is located near the site of the King's Mountain battleground, a pivotal battle in the Revolutionary War. The Inn itself is full of history and you could easily spend a full day just exploring the house and grounds. The owners, Marti and Stormy, couldn't be more welcoming and gracious.

The Perfect Ambience

Upon walking upon the beautiful porch, then entering the Inn I was impressed with the soft lighting and pleasant music being played in our room. It set the mood immediately for a wonderful restful evening. We stayed in the Colonial Cleveland room and the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. Decorations and artifacts in the Inn are amazing. Marti has everything set up for your comfort and you truly feel welcome and at home. I would visit again in a heartbeat! You will be served a delicious breakfast promptly at 9:00 a.m. then get to take a lovely informative tour of the Inn by Marti after breakfast. A nice way to start your day. You will be impressed with the knowledge Marti has on many many things! You are never disturbed while resting in your extremely comfortable room and you get key pad codes to come and go as you please to and from the Inn.

A cozy inn near a quaint town

4,4 en octubre 14, 2015

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay at the Inn of the Patriots. We were warmly greeted upon our arrival, and we enjoyed sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch and enjoying some drinks before we went out to dinner. The room was cozy, with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast in morning was very good (the pumpkin pancakes with a glaze were delicious!), and it was an overall great stay!

Very happy--you get a free tour on top of it all

5 en octubre 06, 2015

The Inn of the Patriots was lovely and the breakfast was delicious. Chef Marti even accommodated my husband and myself by making us eggs since we eat low carb and therefore could not have a lot of the pumpkin pancakes. We also had delicious sausage and after we checked in, I succumbed to temptation and tried the apple pie that chef Marti kept on the table (there was also another dessert offered) for anyone who might want a snack: just right. The most memorable part, though, was listening to chef Marti speak about culinary history of the White House and in particular, his own personal experiences serving under presidents George H. Walker Bush and Bill Clinton.

It was awesome.

Interesting spot in NC

2,8 en septiembre 30, 2015

The Inn of the Patriots was an interesting spot. If you are on your way to the Biltmore or passing through its worth a stop. However, wouldn't recommend it purely as a unless you get a good groupon/living social rate or want to meet someone who's actually worked in the White House. The breakfast was fine, but not as impressive as expected for a place run by two former white house chefs. And while the rooms are cute and interesting and decorated with a quirky eclectic style, the way the toilet and shower were tucked into former closets could make anyone with even the slightest claustrophobia incredibly uncomfortable. The owner was very nice, and the cooking exhibition provided a good recipe or two. However, if we'd paid the full $80 price we would have been very disappointed as we mostly just sat and watched him prepare pizza dough and pizza. The kitchen was too small for much hands on class experience. Finally, the "tour" of the house was effectively just a walk from one glass cabinet of memorabilia to another. It might be nice for those who have a significant interest in white house history, but otherwise wasn't memorable.

Bless you for mentioning stopping on your way to and fro, this has been a terrific marketing help for us and others. We do have some cute bathrooms built into our rooms of the 1879 mansion, as you state, and they are not like staying at the Holiday Inn or Ritz Carlton, they represent the old world charm of B&B's built in the 16, 17 and 1800's which a large group of humans love and adore. I realize that you did not and ask for your forgiveness about the B&B world keeping in mind our tremendously high marks across the earth. We are happy to invite you back and try some of our full-size bathrooms here the next time you select a room and enjoy a free bottle of French champagne on the house with a free lunch and cooking class for two!

Lovely experience

The inn is charming and comfortable. The owner/hosts are very gracious and full of enthusiasm for American history, gourmet cooking, and their lovely home. The tour was enlightening and enjoyable and we loved the stories about the important battles, and details about many of our presidents. The cooking class was wonderful as well as all meals, and the enthusiasm was contagious. Great & unique experience.

The Patriots Inn

4,4 en agosto 01, 2015

We found a deal through Groupon for this Inn and felt it was too good to pass up. Not as fancy as B&B's I've stayed at before but the staff was super friendly and accommodating. Our bathroom was super small, which was ok for us but if you are of above average size it would be next to impossible to use. Be sure to check on that before booking a room. I did think the Inn overall was very 'cluttered' but maybe that's what they were going for. Breakfast was good both days we were there and the family style dining was a nice twist. We did the cooking class and I will say even though we enjoyed it I felt they could have done more. We made pizza and something with a bit more pizzazz would have been nice since the owner cooked for Presidents. If you are looking for budget friendly this will do but make no mistake, it is not upscale.

Living in History

5 en julio 17, 2015

Ever since we saw this B&B featured on "Our State" TV show, we have wanted to visit. The 4th of July was the perfect weekend to visit. The house is decorated in American History and would take many hours to see everything. The rooms are decorated in different themes and atmospheres. The breakfasted are served family style and the food is delicious. There is nothing to do in Grover, but lots to do in the surrounding area. Pay the extra an get a downstairs room with a private bathroom. Get the Col Cleaveland room if available.

Marti and Stormy (the owners) do a spectacular job and serve some of the best home cooked breakfasts we've encountered ANYWHERE. I am not a big history buff, but after spending the night at this place, I have become more interested in our history. I am going back this weekend and I cannot wait!

Surprise at The Inn of the Patriots

4,6 en abril 29, 2015

Perhaps I did not read the fine print, but we were in for a most pleasant surprise during our stay at The Inn of the Patriots. We had an outstanding breakfast for two mornings prepared by the resident chefs. After breakfast, we were treated to a tour of the Inn, which houses a museum of presidential culinary items--lots of historical insight. Our bedroom was a mini-museum and our king bed was most comfortable. There was enough to do in the local area that we deemed our stay at The Inn of the Patriots to be quite a nice getaway.

First Bed and Breakfast Adventure

5 en abril 29, 2015

The Inn of the Patriots was our first Bed and Breakfast Adventure. We were not disappointed! Marti is such an engaging host that the welcome we received upon arrival continued throughout our visit. Interesting and historical home, fabuloso breakfast, perfect gift shop for take-home remembrances, nearby vineyards to visit. Simply an A+ mini-vacation! We'll certainly return - have to take advantage of Marti's cooking classes on the next visit.

A Unique Gem in Southern North Carolina

5 en abril 26, 2015

We found this place through Living Social and decided to take a short vacation and see a part of NC we had never visited before. The inn itself is quite unique and filled with interesting things to look at. Marti treated us to a guided tour of the house, which included details explanations of a lot of the items they've collected over the years. Most of the items came from the time Marti spent at the White House, and he's quite knowledgable about the history of the presidency. The beds are super comfortable and the rooms are well-appointed and quite beautiful. We spent a large part of our stay just relaxing on the porch and enjoying the small-town feel of Grover. We also got to take a cooking class with Marti, which was another high-point of our stay. Marti helped us make a foccacia bread, but he showed us a number of different tweaks we could make to the recipe to make other kinds of bread. I'm an experienced home chef and his instruction was still enjoyable and informative. There are a number of good restaurants within 30ish minutes of the inn, which were great for dinner--we definitely didn't need to visit them for lunch because Marti and Sean's breakfasts were AMAZING. Overall, we were really impressed with this place and would really like to go back. This pair of veterans are doing exceptional work and you're missing out on a great experience if you pass this place by. --Joanie & Ashley from Richmond, VA.

Mixed Review

I was really looking forward to our stay at The Inn of the Patriots which included a cooking class. I called the Monday before our stay to verify the date of the cooking class and was told it was on FRIDAY. However, when we arrived, we were told they had scheduled us for THURSDAY. THE chef had to go out of town for a presentation and we had missed the THURSDAY cooking class. Going to the cooking class was the incentive for going to The Inn of the Patriots. We were given a raincheck for the cooking class, but I doubt that we will ever go "off the beaten path for just a cooking class since the bed and breakfast in itself was expensive.

Bless you for visiting us and please note that our entire website, your coupon advertising and several letters sent to you all require cooking classes to be reserved online, and in writing. No one remembers your call and your friend did mention that she felt you confused "calling us" with "another place." It may be out of kindness that she was trying to gently let us know we had done nothing wrong. We are therefore more than happy to welcome you back for your class anytime you like and provide a free room stay for you and your friend! It being our goal for you to have a good time :)

This is a lovely B&B that is run by America's finest in Military Service and Culinary likes. The host and hostess along with Kim, make this place home. The food is still deserving of an American President and his family. The historical tours and and show cases of historical items makes the tours come to like. The special Irish dinner was amazingly served on a wooden table out of the revolutionary years and the breakfast is wonderful. The cooking class was perfect with the right amount of students and the teaching inspired you to try it at home. I made the trip with my 10 year old. She just LOVED our room and the homemade sugar cookies out on the table! She loved exploring the museum and running around with the owners daughter. It was more like visiting someone's home than a hotel, just wonderful. The only thing my little one wasn't happy with was breakfast. I found it to be pretty good but it was just a little too fancy for her I guess. Most I the food was a little too spicy for her. (But this is a child that threw down on shrimp the nighy before she's a big and not so picky eater) she had been really excited for breakfast so this was a slight disappointment but everything else was just wonderful. Oh and the bed was HEAVEN!

So much to do, so little time.

The facility was nice, clean and cozy. It was our first stay at a BnB. I enjoyed the other couples and mingling with others you don't get at a hotel. My only disappointment was how much hype there was over the chef being so talented. The breakfast was ok, just nothing more exciting than I would cook at home myself. I had expected something more exotic that frittata, potatoes and sausage. I wish breakfast would have shown his talents as a chef that we had heard about from those who attended his cooking class.

We enjoy trying new Inns and this one is a must-visit! Combine comfort with gourmet breakfast and hands-on history - that's the Inn of the Patriots. And you can take a cooking class with the owner, a former White House chef! Located between Charlotte(less than an hour) and Asheville ( an hour and a half) so you can enjoy what these cities have to offer as well. We stayed in an upstairs room with shared bath but would recommend choosing a room downstairs with private bath.

great family run bed and breakfast

3,8 en noviembre 05, 2014

We had a living social deal for the inn. We really enjoyed the room and the inn was full of history and trinkets. I will warn that the upstairs rooms are shared bathrooms if that is a deal breaker. The breakfast was amazing. Overall, it was s nice family run inn but maybe a bit over priced. We also did the cooking class. It was fun but could use some work to make it more interactive (I.e. everyone should make their own portion and possibly more technique instruction). I think we would have been disappointed if we had paid full price for the cooking class.

The Inn of the Patriots was a great historical experience. The Baby Ruth room allowed us to experience what it might be like to have lived in the past. The memorabilia was awesome. Marty and Stormy made us feel at home and allowed us to share parts of their lives. I really enjoyed the cooking class and the pizza we cooked was the best I've ever had. I would return and will stay time. It was a pleasure meeting them and sharing Philly stories with Marty.

Marti is definitely a master of self-promotion. I'm just not sure that what is delivered by his cooking class, food, or inn meets the expectations set by his high claims. The inn itself is very cluttered, and I was extremely turned off to be greeted at the doorway by a decrepit gingerbread house that has clearly seen better days. At first I thought our bathroom situation was less than stellar with a shower stuffed in a closet and a toilet in another closet, but then I learned that two sets of guests were sharing a bathroom upstairs with the owner and his family. I guess mine wasn't that bad after all. The food was decent but not remarkable, and Chef Marti didn't actually cook breakfast for us either morning. So if you are excited to eat food prepared by a White House Chef, this may not be the place for you.

Respuesta del propietario

We were sorry to have not met your expectations and are happy to offer you another stay on the house, complimentary for you friends! We do publicly advertise that a B&B such as ours has small bathrooms built into each room of our 1879 mansion and that we are not trying to replicate the Hyatt or Hilton (where the pricing in Charlotte for such is 300 to 400 per night). I did cook in our kitchens each day and also each night while you were out, making homemade catsup and syrups from scratch. I realize that you were out eating so were unable to monitor my activities or film me in the kitchen. But, then again, we do promote all four of our chefs here and are very proud of them and our TV series. Like Emeril Lagasse who owns 12 restaurants across the USA - he is not cooking in each of them every single night. We welcome you back at any time with our love and care for you - on behalf of Chef Johnsie, Chef Kim, Chef Stormy and Chef Marti

Relaxing, fun weekend

4,6 en octubre 02, 2014

Plan in advance because they are probably booked - and for good reason! We arrived on Friday afternoon and had a chance to look around by ourselves (we received an email stating that Marti and Stormy would be out shopping and to let ourselves in). The decor is great for those interested in history. We went out to one of the recommended restaurants in Shelby (Ni Fen Bistro) planning on having a glass of wine and an appetizer but ended up having a great dinner after hearing about the specials. At breakfast the next morning there were 5 couples who were total strangers. Just by asking the question "How did everyone sleep?" started a conversation that put all at ease and got us all acquainted. The tour of the museum, which consists of several cases of memorabilia throughout the house, was very interesting and entertaining. Marti is an excellent tour guide having lived much of the history showcased. Take advantage of the wine tasting at Baker Buffalo Creek. And don't miss one of the cooking classes. We took the lunch class on Sunday morning and learned how to make pizza from scratch (much easier than you may think and WAY better than anything you'll get from carryout) and a great greek salad. Marti, Stormy and Johnsie are great hosts. We hope to return soon.

Wonderful Roadtrip Destination

5 en octubre 01, 2014

The Inn of the Patriots is a wonderful road trip destination. Not only is the area steeped in history, it offers a myriad of activities to suit anyone's tastes. The Inn is a treasure in itself and Marty makes history come alive when he conducts his tour of the property. Two days was not near enough time to fully enjoy everything!

Respuesta del propietario

It is wonderful to hear what we are told so many times, "two days is not enough!" Thank you for supporting America's disabled and injured veterans returning from the wars and opening new businesses. We are just trying to do a good job. Thank you.

- Chef Marti Mongiello (innkeeper)

Beware! Inn does not meet its hype.

1,0 en septiembre 25, 2014

This Inn has lots of impressive PR but the reality is very disappointing. The inn's rates are very overpriced for a room with a shared bath used by up to 5 others. All of "Presidential" clutter although interesting are dust collectors meaning the inn needs a thorough cleaning. For a culinary inn, breakfast was nothing out of ordinary: oatmeal, bacon, potatoes, and French toast. This was a very unsatisfactory experience at any price.

Respuesta del propietario

Thank you for letting us know how unhappy you were as we would like to offer an all expense paid stay for thee with meals included. We are sorry that you have not enjoyed our TV series and shows on PBS television and we do advertise on our website that we are eccentric with do-dads and memorabilia all over the inn. I understand your comments to me directly that day of, "we don't read English or the English language very well and dislike most of your Presidents in this country." Additionally, we prepared for you hand-cut apples with cranberry old fashioned oatmeal, thick-cut smoked hickory bacon that is very expensive, our famous Hillbilly potatoes in skillets, Angel Food cake French Toast and also served such with handmade blueberry, strawberry and cherry syrup or your choice of handmade Rum, Pineapple and Peach syrup. Having lived and eaten all over the earth on six continents, in New York, Paris, Tokyo, and hundreds more, and as a White House Chef, it is our pleasure to continue to advertise, sell and market a Colonial Style 1780 Breakfast. Being well familiar with 400.00 per night rooms at the Hyatt and the associated breakfast, I cannot agree with you on the price and "what others serve.

Charming Historic Bed and Breakfast

4,4 en septiembre 17, 2014

Marty and Stormy are wonderful hosts. The rooms and public spaces are beautifully decorated with a mixture of antiques and modern furniture resulting in serene and restfully atmosphere. There are collections of White House and Revolutionary War memorabilia to entertain you as well as books and DVDs. The front porch has rocking chairs that look out on a quiet neighborhood of historic houses. It was the peaceful retreat we were looking for when we booked our vacation. The best part was having breakfast cooked each day by a world class chef! The food was outstanding! We thoroughly enjoyed The Inn of the Patriots.

The Great Escape!

4,8 en septiembre 07, 2014

There are not enough adjectives to use to rate our stay at the Inn of the Patriots, but we will try to use a few to describe it. Our stay was restful, wonderful, educational and entertaining to say the least. We received a wonderful tour through the museum that was insightful and eye opening to some of the history of North Carolina as well as some wonderful antidotes about Marti's time at the White House. The breakfast each morning was impeccable with food fresh from his garden as well as local vendors. The cooking class was marvelous. Who knew that one could make fresh dough for pizza in eight minutes or less as well as have it being quite tasty too. We had such an enjoyable time and got to do the one thing that we wanted to do more than anything which was relax. We would definitely recommend the Inn of the Patriots for an insightful, entertaining, restful and eye opening time.

White House culinary history and good food!

4,6 en septiembre 07, 2014

Marti is a gifted storyteller of local history and history of presidential menus...stories he shares during the cooking class and house tour. A stay at the eclectic Inn of the Patriots is both restful and entertaining. The cooking class is fun for cooks and non-cooks with lots of helpful and healthy instructions. The breakfast included local farm foods and of course one White House dish complete with story. While you are in the area be sure to also visit downtown Shelby and Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens in nearby Gastonia. There are several good wineries inn the area. Ask Marti for directions and advice.

'Getway Night at B&B

2,4 en agosto 24, 2014

The Enn could be a real gem but contains far too much clutter. The owners need to decide if they are running a B&B or a museum. Every inch of the main area and rooms contain far too many collected keepsakes from his career. Even the dinning table was cluttered with keepsakes and non essential items. Parking was in rear with path to back door. Wrong! - no answer. Had to go around to front door ( which was plastered with so many stickers and signs to looked like a cheap hotel. Entry foyer, once we were finally let in, was same way. The Breakfast was a real disappointment since we figured since he was a chief we would have an exceptional breakfast. Wrong!! The breakfast was disorganized and what I would have expected from a basic Cafe. Coffee was in carafes on table with no service. Girl brought out a bowl of grits by then selves. Guests asked what else are we getting and the answer was " I don't know". About 5 min later a bowl of bacon was brought out by its self and then a bowl of cereal a few min later and again we were left wondering if this was all there was. Finally a plate of toast and later a breakfast skillet was brought. We had to ask for jam and butter..We never saw the chief until after all this. The taste and presentation of what was brought was what I would expect from a cafe - no more. After breakfast the owner/chief made a history presentation and explained a lot of his career and collections and was very interesting; but, until they get their act together on breakfast and clutter I cannot recommend to anyone.

The Inn itself is located at the Carolina border (you can walk to South Carolina if you want to) and is a 10-30 minute drive from 2 wineries and 2 state parks. I definitely recommend Buffalo Creek Winery and Crowders Mountain State Park if you go. Aside from the surrounding area, which is lovely, the Inn itself is also quite nice. I spent two nights in the Magnificent Polynesian room and slept like a champ. The breakfast (both mornings) was some of the best food I have had in a while and served in a family style that promotes interaction with other guests. After breakfast Marti gives a very good tour of his house, providing a history lesson ranging from the battle fought at Kings Mountain to the china used by presidents at the white house. There are a lot of games scattered throughout the house and plenty of places to sleep and lounge as well. It may take several years to happen but I would definitely go back again.

A Room with Entertainment

5 en julio 26, 2014

This trip was one of the most relaxing and fascinating short term bed-and-breakfast stays. I've ever experienced! The incredible local history was made alive by Marti'a amazing stories spun in the first person as though it was happening today! The entire inn was a living Museum dotted with artifacts, displays, and books; all about the early American Revolutionary period. His antidotal stories of his life in the Navy and as a chef for the president at Camp David all made history seem more alive and personal! Add to that the beautiful rolling landscape of the rural community outside of Grover and you have yourself one of the best bed-and-breakfast experiences you'll ever have!

An embellishment at best

2,2 en mayo 19, 2014

At best, I would say that the website for this establishment is an embellishment of the truth. We stayed in the nature and earth room which was adorned primarily with plastic plants and dead tree limbs - not nearly as peaceful as described. The Inn is also near a railroad in what is basically a ghost town (nearest restaurant is ten miles away). Trains run throughout the night so this isn't a good choice for light sleepers. While I understand that the owner wakes early to make breakfast, I was surprised that he did not shower or shave and that his chef's clothes were dirty rather thanta bleached white and starched look you would expect from a White House Chef. Oh, and be ready for an hour tour of his memorabilia that starts at the breakfast table before you have time to finish eating. This happened to us both days and when I asked why we weren't allowed a break, I was told that when they allowed a break, no one returned for the tour. After an hour on my feet, I agree it is not a tour I would choose given the chance.

We enjoyed our two night stay here. The town of Grover has seen better times, but if you make the drive to Shelby, you will be delighted. We visited the Earl Scruggs Museum (new and very nice) and had very nice meals. The Inn of the Patriots is kitschy, but the beds are comfortable and the breakfasts extraordinary. We took the pizza making class-interesting and well organized, oh, and delicious!

Extraordinary Patriotic Service

4,4 en mayo 08, 2014

Our stay was excellent overall. It was a treat to be served by patriots that have a passion for personal and public service. This B&B truly showed it from the each detail from the dee-licious food, historical and culinary museum artifacts, stories shared and on and on. You truly feel like you've stepped back in time in this establishment. Chef Marti is very humble whether he has served top ranking officials, leaders and dignitaries. He makes your experience just as extraordinary. The winery and local restaurants recommended were just as top notch. He made our first impression of North Carolina a great one, even though he's a transplant and has traveled the world! North Carolina must be doing something right! ;)

Inn of the Patriots

3,0 en mayo 05, 2014

We stayed at the Inn of the Patriots for one night. The room was eccentric, maybe a little cluttered, but clean. There is a lot of history, time, and love put into this inn. The home was nice, but a bit out of the way. It seemed a little pricey, but ok for one night. There is a presentation in the morning, not sure what they would have done if we stayed for two nights.

Something different!

4,0 en mayo 03, 2014

Fun, eclectic place to stay, definitely different! The food was very good, and very plentiful for breakfast. Not crazy about sharing a bathroom, but it was ok. The only thing I'd change is the amount of stuff in the room and public areas. It was over the top.

Didn't get what was promised

3,0 en mayo 02, 2014

We bought a voucher to stay at Inn of the Patriots. The voucher said we would receive a sweet treat upon arrival. None was offered, so we asked about it and James seemed surprised and caught off guard. He said it would be ready later, after dinner. We asked what it would be, and he said probably chocolate cake. So when we went to "their" restaurant, NiFen in Shelby (which was fabulous - and we were given a free appetizer as Inn of the Patriots had promised - go before 6:25 to get a wonderful Early Bird special) we didn't get dessert, looking forward to that chocolate cake. When we got back there was no cake to be found and no staff to ask about it. Our room was nice but there was hair in the shower drain. Breakfast was good but not as outstanding as it was built up to be. Chef Marty had some interesting stories. The best part of our visit there was going to Kings Mountain National Military Park - we probably would have never gone there otherwise, and it was great.

We were gifted this getaway and had never heard of the Inn before. What a pleasant surprise tucked away in quaint Grover! It was the perfect amount of cool historical items to check out at the house/museum, yet relaxing enough where we could decompress and just hang out together on our first trip away from our baby! The room was quite comfortable and the food was delicious! Very cool experience.

Fun, educational, friendly B&B with outstanding breakfasts and cooking class!

4,6 en abril 02, 2014

We spent 2 nights along with one cooking class at the Inn of the Patriots. Chef Marti and his wife Chef Stormy were friendly and made us feel at home and relaxed right from the start. Our room was decorated appropriately and detail was exceptional as the famous Polynesian Room, though the bathroom accommodations that came with the room were a tad "tight". Each mornings breakfast was a "horn of plenty" with flavorful 3 courses, piping hot, tasty and served right from their kitchen. On top of that, we took a cooking lesson with Chef Marti that was both entertaining and informative. We turned out what I would call an artisanal pizza that I'm sure we'll concoct again at home. We really enjoyed our stay, the friendly, homey atmosphere along with the historical features and tour. If you're in the Charlotte area and looking for a unique place to stay, this is it!

We loved the warm and inviting home, the rocking chairs on the front porch (with blankets if we got cold) is where we talked into the wee hours of the night, the breakfasts were to die for, the bed - so comfortable, and the room very clean with all the comforts of home. Surprise after surprise - The Inn is a Museum and Marti is a plethora of information - creme' brûlée for (2) appeared in our room - and I am not going to continue because I don't want to ruin the surprise for you! I highly recommend the Inn of the Patriots! Be ready for a wonderful surprise! Thank you Marti and Stormy!

We had a great time here, but the best part was Marty's tour of the history of the Inn and his relationship with past Presidents and Presidential history and memorabilia on display at the Inn. As a former White House Chef he has a unique perspective on the White House, and a personal connection to the Revolutionary war history in the area! We did the short lunchtime cooking class and have already used the unique pizza crust recipe at home!

Best weekend ever!

I enough HIGHLY recommend a visit to this lovely B&B. Chef Marty and his family are wonderful hosts (their little girl is absolutely adorable)! This was a girlfriend weekend for myself and three girlfriends. The cooking class was more than a class, it was an education. We made Crete brûlée, rustic pizza and a Greek salad. We had so much fun and I leaned a lot from Chef Marty! We will be returning with more girlfriends!! Thank you so much for a fabulous weekend.

A terrific getaway

Inn of the Patriots is a lovely B&B and is also unusual in its collection of historical items, things you wouldn't normally see in a museum. The breakfast was fantastic. Nearby King's Mountain battleground is a piece of important history, quite fascinating. A definite yes.

A Pleasant Respite Hiding in our "Backyard"

3,4 en enero 30, 2014

A night at the Inn of the Patriots was a gift from my husband's sister., and it included a wine tasting and tour at a boutique winery close by. Although it was only an hour from our home we were ignorant of the Inn and all the area has to offer. When you step into the Inn you get the feeling you stepped back into another time, and in many ways you are. We did not meet Mrs. Innkeeper - she evidently works outside the home. Both of them are former military chefs, and Chef Marty was chef to several presidents in his career. Our room was comfortable, if a little over decorated. The bathroom was rather tiny but had everything we needed. Breakfast was held at a family-style table decorated and set with 18th century implements. The food was plentiful and simple - nothing exceptional or memorable. The Innkeeper gave an informative tour of the house after breakfast, and it included a lengthy history lesson, complete with acting vignettes in which he portrayed several characters. There was extensive presidential memorabilia to see and portraits of key players in a battle that took place nearby during the Revolutionary War. The tour ended in a basement gift shop in which we were encouraged to purchase items to help keep the Inn going. Although I cannot say that the Inn of the Patriots was the best B&B we ever stayed at, but we enjoyed our stay. If you are a history buff you'll find plenty to explore.

Enjoyable Experience

Everything along with museum tour made it an inspirational weekend!!!

Very Cozy Bed and Breakfast

5 en enero 21, 2014

Awesome breakfasts served each morning by our wonderful Chef Marti at the Inn of the Patriots. It was very entertaining to hear some of his personal stories as a former Chef at the White House. He was very informative in explaining the history of the Inn and the historical items of the Presidential Culinary Museum therein. We even got to enjoy a personal cooking class taught by Chef Marti where we learned to make a great "homemade" pizza! There were plenty of information brochures at the Inn for nearby attractions and a bulletin board for local events if you wanted to venture out. There were plenty of menu's from local restaurants which made it easy to pick a restaurant for dinner. Our bed was comfortable and our room was very clean. We felt comfortable moving about and going and coming from the Inn. We had a very enjoyable stay and would stay there again.

Worth the trip

A wonderful stay in a great little Bed & Breakfast

4,4 en enero 08, 2014

We stayed in the Magnificent Polynesian room. The quirkiness of the room and the overall layout of the inn lended itself to a feeling of staying in someone's home. Someone who made you feel at home and welcome! The food was outstanding with huge portions and carefully and professionally served family style. The Inn is located in an area with many options from antiquing to wine tasting and more. The tour and history of both the Inn and its owners is wonderful and worth the stay alone. Overall, a wonderful stay and highly recommended!

B&B with a bit of history

3,2 en diciembre 09, 2013

Marti did a great job of making us feel welcome. The breakfasts were very good. Our stay was to include a cookbook, but it wasn't offered and I forgot to ask for it. However, we did go to the winery, and thoroughly enjoyed it. My only negative comment is there are so many decorations (too many, IMO) that it's hard to find a surface to put personal items on. And the house was ~150 years old and some of the closets were converted into toilet and shower. My husband is tall (6'3") and could not close the bathroom door when he was seated on the toilet. I know, too much information, but a little honesty is called for here. The shower would not suffice for anyone who is claustrophobic -- nothing more than a cubicle. So, tall people and those of sizable girth should avoid this particular room (Polynesian). I can't speak for the other bathroom/shower accommodations.

Wonderful time away from home

However, Chefs Marty and Stormy were so welcoming and so kind. Any hesitations were quickly eased with their gracious and warm hospitality!! We have two words for the delicious breakfasts, cooking class, and historical tour: Simply amazing!! We enjoyed our stay so much that I purchased another weekend stay for my parents as a Christmas gift and they are looking forward to also having the wonderful experiences that my husband and I had had during our stay. A hidden gem

4,2 en noviembre 06, 2013

What sets this B&B apart is Chef Marty and his vast knowledge of the Revolutionary War, the inner workings of the White House kitchen and lots of other historical tidbits formerly unknown to me. We really enjoyed our stay!

Meet new friends while sitting on the porch handing out Marti's candy to the 100's of trick-or-treaters that converged on the small town of Grover. Found much to do in the area and many great and friendly people. Halloween is a great time to visit. oh, and it was just as the leaves reached their peak color as well. Enjoy!

Well done, Marty and team!

We are B&B fans with high expectations, which were well met. Understanding the fact that it is a fairly new endeavor allows some leeway for the few things that still need attention, such as the front entry needing power washed or painted. The tour of the historic house and contents was quite interesting, service was friendly, food was unique (and good) and the total experience was a nice couple of days for a brief getaway from home.

Cooking class

I really can't review a stay at the Inn because I only attended a cooking class, but found it quite informative, lots of fun, and an excellent and most pleasant way to spend two hours. I highly recommend Marti's cooking class. I very much want to attend a dinner at the Inn.

18 year Anniversary

We spent one night for our 18 year wedding anniversary. Because there is nothing open for dinner on Sunday night we chose to eat at the inn for dinner. There were 4 other couples and it was nice to eat with such nice people. Dinner was good. After dinner when us and 2 of the other couples chose to stay up and talk. Marti fixed a fire outside so we could all sit and talk. It was a nice night. The next morning we had a great breakfast and a tour of the Inn. Thanks for the nice time Marti and Stormy.

Took a girl's get-away trip with my sister and stayed in the Magnificent Polynesian room. It was the perfect "home base" for us as we explored the parks, wineries and gardens in the area. An Intimate Family Atmosphere

This is a fun and interesting place to stay if you love history, love small, home-style B&B's, and enjoy visiting with others. We really enjoyed getting to know the owners and the other guests at the shared dining table, the laid-back cooking class, and the common areas. The house is charmingly decorated, with tons of historical artifacts from both past and recent history. The tour of the house is very entertaining, and they recommended some great local points of interest in town. We really enjoyed our weekend at The Inn of the Patriots!

Awesome Experience

5 en abril 30, 2013

We were greeted by Chef Stormy who took us on a tour of the home and gave us many restaurant options in the area and surround areas. We went to Ni Fen one of their recommendations and the food was awesome! It was a short 10 mile about 20 minute ride away. Our room the Nature and Earth room was very spacious and we had homemade Jordanian Baklava waiting for us on arrival. My husband and I normally skip breakfasts at hotels but after traveling and living abroad we have learned that while staying at a B&B this is a no no and surely a missed experience! This was without a doubt the most amazing homemade gourmet breakfast we have ever received at a B&B. We had an amazing homemade Strata that was very filling and had a fresh from their garden Rosemary Tomato Salsa to go on top of it. We had parm good, I do not even like grits! The fresh coffee and juices were wonderful! We had fresh fruit and lots of bacon. Very filling so much so we didn't even eat lunch that day! After breakfast we were taken by Chef Marti on a tour of the White House Museum filled with many many stories, memorabilia and collectibles. After we went to a recommended Winery Baker Buffalo Creek, we were taken on a private tour and then a wagon ride through the vineyards with a wine tasting on the wagon! It was soo fun!! After we attended the Culinary Cooking class by Chef Marti and Chef Stormy. It was fabulous! We learned so much and had a great hands on experience. We were there with another group from Chicago and a wonderful young couple like ourselves. We all ate the meal after we prepared it, so fantastic! Thank you again for a great experience!

Really not impressed...

1,6 en agosto 11, 2011

I wasn't going to review because I honestly didn't have anything great to say about the experience but the email addressing me by the wrong name begging me to make a review lead to this. First off my name isn't Sandy as stated in the email. This was a gift to my husband for our anniversary and was a packaged deal from living social. Huge disappointment! We didn't get most of what was offered in the package. No chocolate strawberries waiting in our room as expressed in the deal or a signed cookbook. Bathroom and shower were tiny mini closets, and sink faucet was broken. My husband couldn't use the restroom with the door closed because his feet stuck out. Took a while to find someone when we got there, kitchen was full of bugs, we had two bugs in our room the entire weekend! Breakfast the first day had a lot of people, half of the stuff ran out before we got it(never replenished) and dessert wasn't homemade. One of the guests said he couldn't eat them because he sells them for a living. I guess I expected everything to be homemade by a chef. We had to get breakfast on our own afterward. Places were recommended to eat but it would have been nice to know that these places would be closed on the 4th of July. We spent our anniversary searching for hours for something to eat. What really bothered me is I called the first night we were there to request a bigger room for the next night because it was still available (I know I checked on Sat too) I never got a call until Sat evening (which OF COURSE someone would have rented it by then) which was 24 hours after I called to make the change. We felt a burden asking anything while we were there. We weren't told about the winery (so when we called nothing extra was told about the deal). Never even wished us a Happy Anniversary. I wanted our weekend to be special, and I think we would have gotten more personalized service in a chain hotel. Wish we had just stayed in Charlotte where we ended up both nights anyways.

Great trip to Grover's Inn of the Patriots

My mother and I came to the Inn of the Patriots for a mother-daughter weekend getaway via Livingsocial. We had such a great experience! Marti, Kim, and Amanda were so sweet, accommodating, and concerned that we were having a good experience. The tour was great and we really enjoyed seeing the displays. We stayed in the Nature and Earth room which was so relaxing and pretty. It's good to have activities in mind that you want to do in the immediate area when you go for a few days, but Marti was great about recommendations if you need some. We went to the National Park, Gaffney Outlets, Botanical Gardens, into Shelby, and just relaxed at the Inn. The food was spectacular. We just thank you all so much for such a fun experience and really hope to return.

A weekend with Marti and Stormy

4,4 en julio 05, 2011

I purchased a Living Social deal for The Inn of The Patriots in December of 2010. I called in June to make my reservation and Marti was very friendly and helpful. He advised me to register for my stay online and told me what code to use. The whole process was very easy. Marti e-mailed me with information about my stay in advance and called the day we were supposed to check in to answer any questions and give us instructions on how to enter the property if he wasn't there. We stayed in the Polynesian room. There were lots of little extras -- bathrobes, foot massage, back massage. The room itself was a little crowded - tons of tchotkes. The room was en suite, but the toilet room and shower room were tight. I thought the room itself was a bit moldy smelling, but I wonder if that is to be expected in a house that was built in 1870? The whole inn was a little too busy for my tastes, but I knew that before I made my reservations. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. The service and the breakfasts were outstanding. Everyone that works there is super-friendly and accomodating. The tour was interesting and covered a range of topics from the origins of the house, the town of Grover, the battle of Kings Mountain and information about Presidential culinary habits and china choices. There are plenty of outdoor spaces to gather -- front porch with rocking chairs, back patio and lounge with waterfall. There is also a horseshoe pit, putting green, and croquet. I also enjoyed the wine tour at Baker Buffalo Vineyards.

Great getaway with a lot of history everywhere you look.

3,8 en junio 13, 2011

We stayed 2 nights (Friday & Saturday). Chef Marti's breakfast on Saturday was amazing, forget about the diet for a couple days. We really appreciated the time he took after breakfast to review the local attractions close to us. We chose King's Mountain and enjoyed/learned about a piece of history that was pivotal in the revolutionay war. Chef Marti is a very engaging and interesting host. He was always quick with a story of his experiences cooking in the Navy and White House (Camp David). I took advantage of his optionally priced Saturday cooking class along with some of the other guests and a few who drove up to 2 hours to attend. We all participated in the menu preparation and then dined on our creations following the class. Chef Marti also shared several valuable tips about cooking in general and of course, his signature stories which we all loved. The Inn was very clean and comfortable with dessert/beverages available 24/7. The atmosphere creates a relaxing environment that leaves you refreshed after just the first night. Additionally, he has so much historical bric-a-brac displayed around the common areas that one can see/read/view something interesting over many days. We didn't have enough time to experience everything in the 3 days we stayed with Chef Marti. A couple minor items I would suggest: first, locks on the rooms. I'm orginally from an area where you do not leave doors unlocked and that would have been more comfortable for me. However, staff was always around so security was really not an issue. Second, a few more outlets around the room would have been nice as we carry our technology with us on vacations. Overall, this is a must do if you are in his part of the country.

Inn of the Patriots - lovely getaway on border of NC/SC!

3,8 en junio 13, 2011

Building is lovely, and there are so many historical items to see inside - kept spotless! Chef Marti is very engaging and has enjoyed an exciting career (including this one). Food was very good, if sometimes not to my taste, but served family style at a huge table. Room (ours had a private bath) was very interesting - a couple of issues, but nothing serious (shade didn't work, not enough outlets). Bed very comfy and cozy (recommend 1st floor in the summer, as top floor is much warmer). Trains go through, so bring your earplugs if you are a light sleeper! Kings Mountain Military Park is fascinating and worth the short (10-minute) trip to review one of the key battles of the Revolutionary War. Recommend Smoke on the Square restaurant in Shelby (10 miles away) for lunch or dinner - great pulled pork! All in all, a relaxing, fun stay at a very unique B&B!

Too much stuff

2,0 en junio 13, 2011

The inn keeper seemed very nice but the space and food need serious help. If you are a true civil war buff, this place may appeal to you; otherwise, avoid it. There is clutter everywhere: A million small pictures on the wall, old letters and maps cover the floors, bathroom is filled with inn keeper's personal hygeniene items. The whole scene is very unsettling. Breakfast was fine, but nothing special: eggs were dry, oatmeal overly sweet, bacon and sausage over smoked and fatty.

We especially loved the cooking class and conversation during the preparation of dinner. One of our favorite weekend adventures ever! The food is incredible!

Definitely a winner!!!

Chef Marty and wife, Stormy, were very gracious. We arrived late at night, but we were greeted at the door and welcomed and immediately offered food, drinks, tour, socializing with other guests, etc. Baby Ruth room was beautiful and full of history. Our dining was above and beyond our expectations.

Raising the art of embellishment to a new level

2,2 en abril 11, 2011

"Chef" Marti embellishes every aspect of this Inn (and his career) to the point that it becomes a bad joke. The video in their Website is nothing like what you encounter. The Inn is cluttered and not at all what shows in this video. The "Presidential Culinary Museum” consists of three cabinets with some newspapers clippings, pictures, and a few replicas of china. Marti claims there is even a miniature golf area…we saw the clubs and the golf balls but there was no such a thing… but that is Marti’s style!!! The culinary class was expensive for what he taught and after $100/per person he asked the participants to buy their own glass of wine. It didn't feel like “home” at all as the advertisement portrays thanks to Marti who didn't waist any opportunity to sell you something. His farewell "gift" to the ladies was a bag containing an Avon catalog to place orders! Snacks, something cold to drink, or even a cup of coffee during the day cost you money. This stay left us very disappointed especially because of the exaggerations posted about this Inn and Marti’s contributions to a never-ending story. Marti will do himself a favor by toning down what this is and making an effort to accommodate and serve his guests rather than getting a few more bucks out of them. The housekeeper Kim was very nice and she kept the rooms very clean.

Thank you so much, we remember you well, and we were sorry you were angered (with your tirade and outburst) over George Bush and President Obama's photo being in our museum. It was inappropriate and evidently has transpired into a personal attack on our museum, supported by several presidents foundations, with donations consisting of precious items. We were sorry that we cannot sell wine by the glass or hand it out for free - it is illegal to do so. We do have cake, cookies or muffins out all day long but cannot hand out unlimited 24 ounce bottles of soda to folks as you suggest and it was our pleasure to provide you with free Avon samples and gifts on your loving, goodbye bag. Considering you only paid 65.00 for the cookery class and gourmet dinner and 65.00 per night for your room in a five star rated B & B, we honestly feel that this costs less than staying in one of the budget hotels. We were pleased to have you stay with us and enjoyed sharing our family's home with you :)

What a hidden gem!

4,8 en abril 07, 2011

Chef Marti, Chef Stormy, and Kim, are all incredibly accommodating and kind. The food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. I saw other guests with special dietary needs accommodated without a single frown, and the ease between the Chefs and staff speaks volumes about their character. There didn't seem to be any "idle hands" here! I can't imagine the hard work that goes into running and cleaning such a place! The rooms are all beautifully decorated with almost museum-like details. Each room is a glimpse into the history of another era. That being said, I’m not sure if I’d be brave enough to bring my toddler! Don't expect a state-of-the-art facility- this Inn is all about personal attention, Southern hospitality, and a slower pace of life. They treat you like family, and that's just the way I like it. It is surprisingly close to many attractions... there was plenty to do! All in all, I plan to return very soon. I highly recommend The Inn of the Patriots!

Totally relaxing getaway!

I was not sure what to expect with the Inn of the Patriots. Thought it might be a bit formal, but it was completely welcoming and very casual. Perfect for the relaxing few days that we really needed. Marti was a great host and his breakfasts are wonderful. Kim and Amanda took excellent care of us and Kim especially went out of her way to be sure all of our needs were met. I would highly recommend this Inn as well as the area, which is also very casual, but beautiful, with mountains, history, wineries and so much more.....

The Inn of the Patriots B & B Hotel

3,2 en marzo 21, 2011

The concept of the Inn of the Patriots could be an excellent one. That said, you are trying to put too many different themes into play and it winds up being cluttered. For example, you have the Revolutionary War theme, which of all of them is probably the best one to focus on given the area you are in. But then you throw in the Grover Cleveland thing and the Presidential Culinary Museum thing and it just gets confusing. Kim and Amanda were terrific and made things fun, however, if you are going to do "cooking classes" and charge for them, get the right equipment to use and get your kitchen organized. Breakfast was OK. Dan and I are both experienced chefs with backgrounds in the hospitality industry so we know what we are talking about. The best suggestion I can give you is to pick one theme and focus on it, then have have a garage sale to clear out all the other stuff. You have a potential gold mine but you are not taking advantage of what you COULD have with some thought and a little work. Thanks, Rod Houston and Dan Forsythe.

Respuesta del propietario

Dear Rod and and Dan, Thank you for rating us as meeting your expectations and for staying with us! :) We were sorry to be visiting a friend and not here the weekend you were here. We do enjoy our three themed approach of Grover, Museum and Colonial War and it has helped us to build our B & B into the international awards received and hundreds of reviews of appreciation and love. We were appreciative of your business advice as to how to change the entire B & B to your liking, but shall not. We could never garage sale our treasures, friends and our "clutter" is what makes us fun and eclectic. We welcome you to stay with us again and thank you for the five star rating of service!

Not what we expected, but still a nice time

3,6 en marzo 08, 2011

We visited the Inn of the Patriots after purchasing a package deal on The package indicated that it included: 1 night stay, 2 tickets to the presidential culinary museum, 2 tickets to a local winery, a free autographed cookbook, breakfast in bed, and chocolate covered strawberries. I got very excited when I saw this because my husband is a chef and this sounded like something he would really enjoy; I ended up buying the package for his anniversary gift. Unfortunately the package turned out to be not at all what I expected / paid for. The entire time we were there there was no mention of tickets to a culinary museum or winery ... I assume the "museum" was the displays in the hallways which were interesting but definitely misleading if that was meant to be the "culinary museum"...especially since I obviously would not have needed tickets to something that was in the hallway. As for the winery - when we asked Marti about it, he told us we could go by and mention his name. The winery was 13 miles away and we didn't feel like "mentioning his name" would get us anything special, so we choose to skip it. We never saw chocolate covered strawberries - I suppose I should have asked, but I was honestly kind of awkward because the chefs were so busy our entire stay and whenever we asked a question, we had to go find them in the kitchen and I felt like we were being a nusiance. The "cookbook" was a paper book with 4 recipes in it... a nice bonus, but should NOT have been advertised as a free autographed cookbook. The only thing I was very impressed with was the food - the breakfast in bed was fabulous! :) Overall the owners seemed friendly enough and the food was amazing, but I do wish the "package deal" hadn't been so misleading -- it was a huge dissapointment as this was my anniversary gift to my husband.

For Ms. Lauren Dyer, Thank you so much for the outstanding review and the chance to offer you both free dinners to our Jazz Festival for Mardi Gras! It was a pleasure to meet your husband the Chef and we hope you enjoy the selected ten recipes for President Reagan, King Abdullah and more... We do wish you had asked us about the tour as it does lead all over the mansion, underground to the servants quarters in 1879 and outside to our old slave house. The acclaimed and internationally awarded tour is given at 1 pm every Saturday and again to any guest morning, afternoon and night. We regret your assumptions that it is only in the glass showcases in the hallways, in this kind manner, you are mistaken about it and our cooking booklet and winery tour. Our award winning winery and friends who own it is not just mentioning, "Chef Marti's name," it is a special deal we have arranged for and provides an hour long tour for you including tasting up to 12 wines at no cost to you. Again, we regret your many outright assumptions and answering questions for us that were actually, never asked. We felt the gift of free dinners for you to our jazz and Mardi Gras Festival was a gift from the heart of love and appreciate your kind comments. We welcome you back and are happy to provide a free bottle of wine for you as our friends.

Valentine Gift Getaway

4,2 en marzo 05, 2011

I gave the 2 night stay to my husband for a Valentine Gift. We arrived during the week as weekends were booked well ahead. We were anxious for R&R. Marti greeted us warmly and gave us a quick tour of the lovely 1871 home. He also had suggestions of things to do while there. The room I had chosen on line was smaller than the upgrade he offered. Breakfasts were outstanding. Kim did a wonderful job of preparing and serving as well as taking care of the room. She also gave a more extensive tour. Our only disappointments were that there were no other guests at the time of our visit. We pick B&B's so that we meet others from all over the world. My husband missed not having cookies or sweet snacks at the coffee/tea service. Marti made some delicious Irish soda bread which we enjoyed at breakfast. History buffs will enjoy the Inn as it is full of memorabilia. A Very nice visit.

Inn of the Patriots B&B

4,2 en marzo 02, 2011

Driving around Grover, NC, we could see that there wasn't much to the town itself. It is close to the outlet shops in Gaffney, and not too far from Charlotte -that's about it. Except for the Inn of the Patriots. As a B&B, it is a good value, and clean. The house is old, but the rooms and bed were comfortable. The Presidential and Navy memorabilia were worth the time we spent to view them. However, the only reason we drove 2 hours to get there, and 2 hours back home, and thought it was well worth it, was for the food. The breakfasts were OUTSTANDING!!! And the Saturday afternoon cooking session, leading up to dinner, with Marti and Stormy Mongiello was a blast. It was a lot of fun, and the dinner was fantastic. We brought home some recipes, and a new perspective on cooking.

Romance for the senior crowd

Our stay was absolutely wonderful!! (an overused word which doesn't describe the joy of our stay at the Patriot Inn). There was no "want" expressed that was not met. Even though our innkeeper came down with some awful virus, he sent the "mounties" (his assistant) and she was delightful and continued the practice of exceeding our every want whether expressed or not. We also met his darling daughter at the restaurant he had mentioned to us. It was apparent that she was his daughter because she was so warm, charming and outgoing (though she is too young to talk). His wife, Stormy, was the same.... just an affable couple whose attributes are apparently being passed on to their daughter. The Inn was decorated beautifully... There was so much to explore.. We are especially grateful that our baby, our big dog, could accompany us. He too was very comfortable. It was a perfect experience. Thanks to all.

If you are looking for a sophisticated, romantic ambiance then this is not the place for you. However, if you want a homey, quaint place to escape to for several days where the food is delicious and the staff feels like family... you absolutely must visit this place. The Innkeepers are very involved with your stay and encourage you make yourself at home. We had free run of all the facilities and were even encouraged to use the commercial kitchen if the fancy struck us! Anything we wanted we felt comfortable asking for. And there are endless books, movies and magazines to enjoy. In particular, history gurus could probably spend weeks at this place and still have weapons they wanted to look at, maps they wanted to pour over, and books they wanted to read. My Dad is into Rev War reenacting, and I have already recommended this place to him. Will visit again.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn of the Patriots. We also did cooking classes and spent a day at some local wineries, which were fun experiences. We knew we didn't have our own private bathroom when we signed up for our weekend away. If I could do it over again, we would definitely want our own bathroom to create a more relaxed stay. Other then that, Marti was exceptional and we loved his mansion tour.

My husband and I just returned home from a wonderful stay at The Inn of the Patriots. Sort of a combined 'birthday/anniversary celebration. Only able to stay one night, so we made the most of it by booking the cooking class Sat afternoon, sumptuous dinner (of course - we made it...with a little help from Chef Marti and new friends we made in the class), divine sleeping arrangements, and then the best breakfast in the AM (and we didn't have to make that!). Learned several culinary techniques, chatted with VERY interesting guests from all over the Eastern seaboard, and waxed poetic over history lessons and travelling experiences. This was THE PERFECT place to escape to for a quiet week-end with my husband. All fun, and not stuffy-formal! Love the laid-back feeling generated by our host family!

We had never been to a bed and breakfast before and this sure was a treat! The staff was such a help when deciding what to do around town, however, we were slightly disappointed with the food. I think we had too high of expectations for it and were disappointed when the breakfast we received had little taste. We were really looking forward to the meals each morning since the owner is a former executive chef to the President. Other than that, we will definitely be coming back for another lovely stay.

Great food! Too much clutter!

3,0 en noviembre 18, 2010

We enjoy staying in historic inns and have stayed in many over the years. Although the hosts are very nice and the food is very good, I would not return to this Inn. To my taste, it is overdecorated and there is clutter everywhere. You can hardly see what a nice building it is because there are exhibit stands taking over the living room, knick-knacks on every surface, including the floor, and piles of magazines on each step leading upstairs. I would have preferred to focus on the spacious rooms, high ceilings, and woodwork. Instead, I felt overwhelmed and uncomfortable.

Hidden Historical Treasure

5 en noviembre 02, 2010

When I travel, I don't tell people I am a travel writer. I want my experiences to be honest and my reviews accurate. I have to say, that while I have seen bigger inns, I can't say I have had a nicer host. I never saw Stormy, but Marti and his son made my stay very pleasant. I particularly was impressed by the fact that as I left, Marti gave me a fresh baked pumpkin cake (miniature) which was soon good, that I wanted to come back and get more. When I got there, they handled the late arrival without issue which was nice. I've been to some places where the breakfast is so gourmet that I don't want to eat it, but Marti managed to find an excellent balance, providing a breakfast frittata, red potatoes, bacon and fresh pineapple. The accommodations were museum quality, I was almost afraid of turning down the bed to sleep, and frankly my possessions looked out of place. I did have some minor issues trying to make the dvd player work but otherwise, felt that it was a great place to stay. The historical tour was the Pièce de résistance that capped a stay that was short but satisfying. They offered a winery tour that I chose not to take. This is the perfect place for a historical tour of the area, beginning with the inn itself, and concluding with the historical parks in the area.

Could've been better.

2,4 en octubre 11, 2010

So, I know the reviews of this B&B are glowing, but Inn of the Patriots ended up disappointing us a bit. On one hand, the service was great. Chef Marti greeted us and immediately gave us a tour. Very friendly. He gave us great restaurant suggestions. The house is a beautiful building. It's not set in the most beautiful of locations, but it's near some nice places. We spent the day at a local fair and visited three different wineries. We had a blast. The house was cluttered with patriotic knick-knacks. It was overwhelming. The rooms were the same. In some ways it was cool, but we had to be careful not to lose our own belongings amidst the stuff. Also, our bed was not made after we had spent the day out. One of the big headlines on the website is "Private bathrooms..." We did not have a private bathroom and neither did the room across from us. We all shared the same bathroom with Marti and his wife. The bathroom had metallic spray paint artwork in the shower itself. Odd choice. The dining? I admit that I'm a food snob, but with the stamp of "former white house chef" I expected the best. The first day we had blueberry pancakes, pork chops, and fruit salad. I had seen a bag of Krusteaz (just add water) pancake mix the evening before on the kitchen counter. I know pancakes made from scratch because I make them. These were not. And the "maple syrup" was not real maple syrup. And are blueberries in season in October in NC? I don't think so. Why not something seasonal like pumpkin pancakes? The next day was better - a mushroom omelette, ham, and yogurt - although my boyfriend is not a mushroom fan. Maybe ask for dislikes or allergies. I hate to be such a negative nancy, but I hope to give a more realistic review for the discerning traveler. If you happen to be in the area and need a place to stay, this place has a lot of character. And it will be a better than average B&B breakfast.

Respuesta del propietario

Thank you friends for saying we are better than average! We appreciate you and you are right, our blueberries are grown here in Grover and frozen to last all year long. Now don't you mind Krusteaz Pancake Mix since we use them on our TV shows and Cooking Shows! They are terrific and so are you!

Marti and Stormy Mongiello are the innkeepers. They are both Navy Veterans and their call to continue to serve is evident. Each room has a different theme and feel. Marti was the personal Chef to Bill Clinton at Camp David and it shows. They serve wonderful hearty breakfasts to start the day and equally as impressive dinners. I have stayed in many a B & B and prefer them to hotels. Marti & Stormy really have mastered the art of making one feel at home. As a professional hospitality executive I can not recommend the Inn of the Patriots more highly. Safe travels!

Incredible breakfast, best we have ever had at a B&B. Ham and cheese omelette, steak, fresh fruit and more. Loved the room and the location in a small town. We recommend Inn of the Patriots as first choice for anyone staying in the area.

This was our first time staying in a bed and breakfast. Overall, we were very pleased with our visit. The only problem that we had was that we were locked out of the shared bathroom all night long. Again, it was our first time staying at a b and b, so we were not sure what the protocol is in a situation like this. It made for a very uncomfortable experience for my husband and me. Other than that, we have a wonderful visit.

I stayed at The Inn of The Patriots on Wednessday night. I was greeted warmly by the Innkeeper, Chef Marti who showed me my room (The Polynesian) and quickly offered to help bring in my luggage. I parked in a covered parking area which was only seconds from the front door. The room was MARVELOUS, decorated with items that I recognized from my travels abroad to Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Hong Kong. The physical furnishing were TOP-NOTCH. Complimentary dessert Quiches and candies were on my dresser. Even though I felt like I was in another century, I was still connected. The rooms had wireless capability and the TV was on a dish with 300+ channels. If you don have a wireless laptop, dont worry. The Inn has a computer in the front room for your use. The elegant displays of Presidential culinary artifacts was PHENOMENAL! From little boxes of M&M's with the presidential logo on them to pictures signed by presidents and first ladies to china from the White House, the Presidential Culinary Museum has it all. I got a great nights sleep on a very comfortable bed and in a very quiet room. On Thursday morning, I was treated to hot coffee made by the innkeeper's wonderful wife Stormy and a delightful breakfast of an omelet with freshly picked herbs from Chef Marti's herb garden, bacon, and Scrapple. Before I departed, I visited the small but very nice gift shop area in the front of the house where they had homemade jellies, honey, cookbooks, and other memorabilia. My overall experience was FANTASTIC and I would recommend this B&B to anyone interested in history, great hosts, AND a great nights sleep. Thank you Marti, Stormy, and JT.

Pleasent and Quaint - A Nice Getaway

5 en abril 12, 2010

I recently stayed at the Inn and we surprised by how nice everything was. The food is above and beyond the call and the staff couldn't be nicer. I am used to staying around the Philadelphia area at B&B's and it was refreshing to be steeped into Presidential history as well as colonial history of an area I am not that aware of, Kings Mountain, almost from the moment you walk in. I did cause quite a stir when Martin saw me eating M&M's because he thought I got a hold of Bill Clinton's personal stash that are on display. It was a riot. My only complaint is that I can't visit more often. The last review shocks me as I found the bed as comfortable as any other.

A special visit to The Inn of the Patriots

5 en abril 11, 2010

My wife and I recently stayed at the Inn. What a fantastic visit as we were served by a world class Chef and host, along with his wife and son. We always stay at B & B's but this last visit tops everything we've ever experienced. This place and staff are a secret that needs to get out for more travelers to enjoy. Chef Marti is a class by himself and the Presidential Museum was an extra added value that we weren't expecting! We've already booked a return visit and wre bringing friends.

Respite from radiation treatments

4,8 en abril 11, 2010

Last May, my husband surprised me with an overnite at the Inn of the Patriots B & B to give me something to take my mind off the radiation treatments that were just ending. The service was great, and Marti, Stormy, and J.T. were helpful and informative about the history of the inn and the surrounding area. I am a retired teacher and history is very exciting for me. The things I learned were quite interesting. Our room was very comfortable, and beautifully decorated, with accessories gathered during Marti's travels. Breakfast was outstanding, served on the back patio with another couple who were guests celebrating their anniversary. I very much recommend the Inn of the Patriots in Grover, NC.

My Stay at The Inn of the Patriots

3,6 en abril 01, 2010

I have stayed at several Inns all over NC. Stormy and Marti have an awesome concept but I agree with them in saying they have outgrown their space. I felt like the common areas were very cluttered. The rooms were nice but the bed did not exceed my expectations as it relates to a more comfortable matress than home. I would suggest in investing in matresses and higher quality sheets. The food and the hospitality is on target. I would definitely come back for a private luncheon but not an overnight stay.

Respuesta del propietario

We are thrilled to know that you rated our food at FIVE STARS and thank you so very much! Presently we have wonderful, new pillow top mattresses that folks simply love and the highest thread count sheets sold worldwide. We know as disabled veterans that we cannot afford the Swiss mattress systems for $4,100.00 per room but certainly will try.

Our welcome by the host was warm and friendly with assistance with our baggage and explanations of the amenities. We loved the first floor accomodation with no stairs to climb. Room was comfortable and temperature was great. Only suggestions I would make would be a knob to hang a towel or clothes in the bathroom and soft popular or classical music in the living room. The meal was superb and company interesting. The guided tour was entertaining. We hope to get back for a look at the items we missed that are everywhere in the beautifully decorated home.

We are happy to improve your visit even more friend and just installed two more brass hooks in the bathroom for a total of four. We also just added a brand new bathroom table and valet for even more convenience. Thank you for a wonderful suggestion.

Absolutely Outstanding

5 en diciembre 18, 2009

What an incredible experience! A wonderful property with the hosts dressed in Colonial garb of the time period. Just moments after our arrival, Dr. Benjamin Franklin arrived and explained to us the signifigance of the Battle of Kings Mountain to the Cause and how this battle changed the tide of the Revolutionary War- Outstanding! The rooms were so well appointed with special scents, flowers, homemade peppermint bark, and welcome drinks and canapes! Martin and Stormy then toured us through the home and its history which was amazing. The ultimate treat was viewing the China from past US Presidents and understanding how they are chosen and who pays- very interesting! The bedding was so comfortable and the linens were luxerious. Just when you thought it could not get any better- Breakfast the next morning-What a delicitable feast! The fresh squeezed juices, freshly baked muffins and breads, the french toast with real maple syrup was the BEST I ever had, meats, potatoes, fruits, etc... If you left hungry there is something wrong with you. I typically stay in fine hotels for weekend getaways but this establishment has changed my mind completely as one would be hard pressed to find such an incredible experience with the owners being the most kind, caring, knowledgeable, entertaining, and gracious people I have ever met. I will be back again for sure!!

Great B&B! The rooms and bathroom facilities were clean, comfortable, and delightfully quirky, and there were all the free toiletries you could need! (I've found other B&Bs to be a bit stingy with the shampoo.) The owner is a perfect host -- friendly, helpful, fun to talk to, and an amazing chef! He made, hands down, the best B&B breakfast I've ever had. Overall, it's a wonderful value, and if you're in the area, you should check it out!

My eldery mother was having rennovations made on her home. She needed a respite from the construction. We were looking for a quite place where she could rest, be close to the major highways, and be pampered. We arranged for accomadations at Inn of the Patriots. We both we charmed with the balance Marti, Stormy, and JT have developed. Every possible need and desire where met. I have food allergies and Marti was able to provide us with a beautiful hot breakfast everyday. The owners do not hover, but are nearby. My mother's emotional and physical needs were honored. We had just the right amount of privacy.

Inn with a Heart

Arrived and made to feel at home from the second we stepped in the door. Historically important to the town and the area. The Inn itself has nice large rooms and lots of interesting historic memorbilia to keep you interested. Marti will take you on a tour of the Inn and fill you in on the importance of the local area to the Revol. War. We are both Navy people working for and active duty and it was so nice to have a fellow military man, showing us around. Now if all that is not enough for you. Lets talk about the food.... three words fab u lous!!!! I never had some of the local foods and was happy to try scuppernongs and liver mush. It was exciting to see what was being cooked in the morning...great coffee, terrific food and wonderful company. This Inn is not just a passing place to stay. You should put it on your list as a destination. Add in that Marti was a former chef for the White House, that Stormy was born and raised in the area and that together they suite themselves as perfect ambassodors for the town of Grover. Thank you for a great few days, we hope to return soon.....

We've stayed at many places over the years, but none compared to the Inn of the Patriots. The extra care we received was greatly appreciated. The food cooked by Chef Marty was worth the stay. And the room we chose to sleep in was elegant and most comfortable. My husband and I enjoyed the tour of the Inn and took many pictures. Not only did we vacation at the most wonderful Inn, but we learned so much about our country and it's past. Not to forget, so much about Marty and his work as a chef in the White House. His talent with the culinary arts is phenominal, especially to one's palet. The warm, relaxed atmosphere helped us enjoy every moment we were there. We hope, in the future, to have an opportunity to stay at The Inn of the Patriots again. Thanks Marty, Stormy and JT for a one of a kind stay. You helped to make our stay in NC the best ever!

This is a "Gotta Go To Place"

5 en agosto 30, 2009

My friend found this B & B while looking for a place half way between Florida and Virginia for the four of us to spend a long weekend playing cards and hanging out. We are two couples who are retired & active duty Navy who love cooking and great eating and this place seemed to fit the specs perfectly. Marti, JT, and Stormy were the perfect hosts. They were as involved as you wanted them to be. All we wanted was a place to play Euchre, a place to stash our coolers , a Martini shaker, wine and martini glasses and hot coffee in the mornings. We got all that plus! Each morning we had awesome breakfasts. The Austian egg sandwich was a favorite, Marti. We took advantage of asking Marti to cook us a German meal one night and we were stuffed afterwards. Everything was outstanding. The apple strudel had to wait till we walked around the block, but it was great afterwards when we enjoyed it with a cuppa coffee. Marti recommended so many things that we could do. We didn't take advantage of them all as we were primarily there to play cards and relax, but we did take him up on some of his recommendations for dining and were not disappointed. The rooms were nicely decorated, the house tour was so informative and the amenities were great. This was the perfect place for a getaway and one we plan of visiting again and again. I recommend this to anyone who wants to relax and eat like you had a personal chef cooking for you. Marti is a character and someone you can't miss meeting. His knowledge and experience leaves you wanting to hear more stories and pick his brain for recipes. Thanks again Marti, Stormy & JT Brenda & Andy Klaiber Middleburg, FL

A Night at this Inn

This is an unusual B&B. Martin Mongiello, who runs the inn, is a very interesting person. He goes out of his way to be friendly and to entertain you with accounts of his experiences as a White House chef as well as to give local historical information. Be sure to let him give you the "mansion" tour. The breakfast was delightful and the rooms filled with historical items.

The many places he has been and continues to go to and take part in are great to see and hear about. It was an adventure. Would love to go back.

A quiet get-a-away with a great breakfast.

5 en agosto 16, 2009

The Inn of the Patriots itself was a pleasant place to stay. A quiet porch for reading and a lawn for horseshoes and croquet provided an abundance of leisurely entertainment. In addition, Chef Marty's tour of the mansion and White House culinary items was both interesting and very amusing. We would definitely stay again, and we would recommend the Inn of the Patriots to friends and family.

Coming Home

Marti was as welcoming as if we were members of his family. He immediately made us feel at home and gave us the best room in the house even though there were others vacant. His excitement over his collections of historic memorabilia is contagious and we really wished we had more time to see and hear about all that was there. Breakfast was beautifully served, delicious to eat, and lovely to look at. We will definitely recommend the Inn to our friends and will look forward to the next opportunity we may have to stay there. Great Family Get-together

5 en julio 27, 2009

My sister and I joined 3 cousins for a mini-family reunion in July. Marti and Stormy turned over the entire first floor to us, and three of us stayed 2 nights. The other two came down from Shelby and we spent hours in the parlor, laughing, talking and reminiscing. Everyone was very respectful of our need to talk and visit. We enjoyed Marti's delicious brownies while we sat and talked. Breakfasts were outstanding . . . especially the omelettes. Marti said he makes 22 different breakfasts and many different kinds of omelettes. I think it will be just a matter of time before we come back to sample more of them! We enjoyed the ambience, looking at the wonderful antiques, and walking in the garden. This is not a fancy place, but a home in which all are made to feel welcome. It was perfect for our needs, and we will certainly tell family and friends about it. I hope that next time we can take the tour and learn more about the history of the house and the people who were a part of Cleveland County's history. Thanks for a great stay!

What a Great B&B

My wife and I were happily surprised meeting the Manager/Chef/Historian of the B&B. The Mansion was well kept and very clean. A Great Experience

4,2 en julio 22, 2009

We enjoyed our stay at this B&B very much. The innkeeper was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the area. He gave us a tour of the mansion and offered to take us to a historical site. We were unable (due to our time constraints) to go to the historical site, however, we are looking forward to returning to this B&B. I would make only one suggestion. I would have preferred to have advance notice of the breakfast items to be served. The food was excellent, very nicely presented, and served promptly. The Inn was nicely decorated in the period of Civil War History. The bed was comfortable, the towels soft and plush, and lots of bathroom ammenities.

Travelers Delight

5 en julio 22, 2009

This B&B is very accommodating from our late arrival to our lost, locally purchased, merchandise. We had an exceptionally good culinary breakfast, which was served and prepared by a former Executive Chef to the President of the United States. The tour of the Presidential Culinary Museum was both very informative and historical. The innkeeper was also very knowledgeable about the local historical significance of the area. Through his input we were able to fully experience the importance of the area as it relates to the successful outcome of the Revolutionary War. The inn was well kept and very clean. We also enjoyed the exceptional furnishings from the Revolutionary period. When we departed we decided to plan out next trip north to include another stop at this inn. We will definitely pass the good word about this inn to our friends. The day we left, we received a cell phone call from the innkeeper to let us know that he had found some merchandise we had purchased (we thought we had lost the merchandise) and he was shipping the merchandise to our home address. Birthday Surprise

5 en julio 13, 2009

The Inn of the Patriots is a very unique and interesting place to celebrate a special event. With its themed rooms, large porch with rocking chairs and fascinating artifacts and memorabilia covering every available wall and space, the building is as interesting on the inside as it is unpretentious on the outside. The Colonial ambiance of the Inn, coupled with the region’s place in history is a perfect match. Innkeepers Marti and Stormy are congenial, down to earth people that truly make you feel welcome in their home. Marti is very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and attractions and up to date on all local events. Fresh flowers in our room, breakfast by candlelight, a birthday cake for Joan and an impromptu invitation for me to be a “Redcoat” in the reenactment of the Battle at Kings Mountain were unexpected extras that added to an already pleasurable experience. A well kept culinary secret.

4,4 en julio 08, 2009

The Inn of the Patriots may look like any other quiet bed and breakfast. However once you walk through the doors you know that you have stumbled upon a well kept culinary secret. Chef Marti is a former executive chef to the President of the United States. We choose the option to have the German dinner with Marti. He was polite enough to hold dinner an extra 45 minutes for us as we fought through traffic on our way from Virginia. A giant of a man, Marti met us in the foyer wearing a crisp white uniform and towering chef hat. We sat down at the formally set table as the smell of the German fare wafted in from the adjoining kitchen. My husband and I are history buffs and Chef Marti filled us in on the history of the mansion along with his tenure as an executive chef. I choose the Blue Ocean Dreams room to stay in. The room has all manors of nautical items, including many hidden items a vintage sailors uniform was draped on the bed. The entire mansion is a museum and you can spend quite a while reading the articles, pictures, and viewing antiques. The back porch is an ideal place to sit in the shade, or explore the civil war camp set up, complete with tent. We awoke early and my husband was able to spend some time pursuing the house and chatting with Chef Marti. I joined them after browsing through the ample literature for area attractions. The common sitting room was set up with many board games and toys. They also provide a guest kitchen where you can bring your own food, and prepare your own meals for an extended stay. Attention to detail is always a priority at the Inn of the Patriots. Candles were lit for breakfast and we sat down for a formal meal. A gourmet fruit salad and petite New York Strip steak with piping omelet was served. The omelet was excellent. Our stay at the Inn of the Patriots was memorable and Chef Marti and his family are the ultimate hosts. The dinner was a gourmet experience and the mansion a historic jewel.

Best of both worlds

5 en julio 07, 2009

We (my husband and I ) stayed at The Inn of the Patriots 3rd, 4th, and 5th of July, 2009. What I mean by the best of both worlds is that in my mind I knew that we were on vacation but in the present reality of it all I felt that we were right at home. The rooms are very well themed, and very, very well kept. The hospitality that we were shown during our stay was beyond anything we could have ever asked for. The meals were excellent and the breakfast was phenomenal (excellet french toast). The varieties of the jams and jellies were just out of this world. The den had internet access and board games as well as a good bit of intresting literature. The bedrooms were excellent and the amenities were all name brand and we just had an overall great time. This was and will be in the future our "Home away from home". Not to mention this is near 3 major battlesites from the Revolutionary War. These battlegrounds are very intresting in and of themselves. I would recommend this B&B to first timers as well as vetran B&B visitors.

At the Inn of the Patriots we felt like they were genuine about taking care of their guests, not for good ratings but because they really cared. While the Inn had its cozy places it was also action oriented with a multitude of suggestions of things to do in the area as well as at the Inn. We enjoyed our stay.

Presidential Worthy

Every detail to this place was outstanding. Marti is very generous with his vast knowledge of the area which really enhanced our stay. The attention to detail was really remarkable regarding the meals. We had homeade preseves and fresh greens from the garden. After dinner we had homeade strudel on the rocking chairs on the front porch....the hustle of city life just slipped away. JT and Stormy add true warmth and southern hospitality to this Inn. Marti is a true gentleman and underplays his vast experience and knowledge....we liked that very much. My husband and I would and most certainly will be stopping in on this special place again.

Birthday Celebration at the Inn of the Patriots

4,0 en junio 03, 2009

This year when my mom and dad both turned 80, we celebrated with a special dinner for the family at the Inn of the Patriots. Our group was small and included grand children from age 8 to 18. Everyone had a wonderful time. We played games on the front lawn, enjoyed appetizers in the front parlor and had a tour of the inn. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service was welcoming and attentive. Marty and Stormi presented a delicious meal and worked hard to make the occasion unforgettable.

Small Town Jewel!!!

Marti, Stormy and JT thank you for such a wonderful stay. Your hospitality was impeccable not to mention the delicious breakfasts each morning and the dinner Friday night. I didn't feel like a hotel guest in your home I felt like family. I needed a refresher to refocus and that's exactly what I left with. Who would have thought starting your day with breakfast on the patio in the rain could be so peaceful. I will follow you to where every lives journey takes you in the hospitality industry. Thank you guys see you soon!!! For those of you reading this to determine if you’re going to visit the Inn of the Patriots please visit if you’re looking for a family friendly, laid back country weekend or week away because that is what you will receive. It's not one of those nose in your air B&B's where you feel like a hotel guest and your bill looks like one. So if that's what you want don't book. Hopefully you want peace and quiet time to reflect and reconnect with yourself, your spouse or even the kids and you want a deliciously prepared breakfast in the morning that you don't have to cook. If this sounds like you then do not hesitate to give Marti and Stormy a call. It will be the best call you have ever made.

An inn and innkeeper with character!

5 en abril 22, 2009

Our family spent one night at The Inn of the Patriots on our way to our spring break vacation destination. It was a special treat. Marti was extremely gracious. He was a chef for the White House when he was in the service. He is also very knowledgeable about the history of the area. We enjoyed the stories he had to tell as well as the food that he prepared. The Inn is a virtual museum and Marti gave us a brief but very interesting tour before we left. Marti makes every effort to make your stay at his inn a memorable event. I would recommend The Inn of the Patriots to anyone who is passing through the area.

My husband decided we could use a small getaway and researched and found this beautiful inn. We decided to take up the innkeepers on a German dinner the first night and we were not disappointed. The food was incredible! Breakfast was also fantastic both mornings. One morning we ate with all the guests and our last morning we were served breakfast in bed! What a treat! Marti, Stormy, and JT are great innkeepers. Marti shared many historical facts and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I'm sure we will be visiting this bed and breakfast again.

Marti and Stormy were very nice and accommodating. This was our first bed and breakfast and we didn't know know what to expect. One great point for us was not having to get up really early to have breakfast. It fit our schedules well and the breakfast was fantastic, THE best breakfast I have ever had. We got the massage treatment our last day there to top it all off. Ryan and Heather M.

The Best Breakfast I've Ever Had!!!

4,4 en marzo 24, 2009

My husband and I stayed with Chef Marti & fam a few months ago and had no idea what an amazing culinary treat we were in for! There's a reason the world's leaders seek him out for their own kitchens -- and I felt like a queen myself dining at his table. It was just the two of us staying with him that morning, but he went all out -- with freshly cut fruit and berries, sizzling bacon, fried potatoes, and the most amazing goat-cheese-and-rosemary omelet seasoned with herbs from his own garden. Marti's also a serious history buff and gave us a great historical tour of the property, which is an adorable 19th-century home. The proprieters were very warm and welcoming, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The decor could use a little work, which is the only thing holding me back from giving the Inn a perfect rating. I know the place is still a work in progress, and I think that if the carpet were ripped up and the two downstairs rooms treated to an interior designer's touch, the Hambright Mansion would be as lovely and charming as it could be. We got into town late and had to leave the next morning, so I was sad that we didn't have more time to explore tiny Grover, NC. But we did have a lovely time sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch listening to the crickets chirp and the very occasional car go by. If I'm ever up that way again, I would definitely stop by for a stay at the Inn of the Patriots and another one of Chef Marti's 4-star omelets. I recommend it to all my Carolina friends.

Respuesta del propietario

Thank you to our guests for your wonderful and over-flowing comments about the food here! Marti will love hearing about the omelets!!!

We chose this inn on the strength of the web site and we were not disappointed. The breakfasts and Marty’s cooking tips were excellent. This inn exudes history. Marty as our guide not only filled us in on the house but the neighboring military parks at Cowpens and King’s Mountain. He went above the normal innkeeper service by making sure that we were informed of what was happening in the area. In addition, Marty called us before our visit to answer any question. He called us afterwards to make sure we got home safely. The ignition key for our Honda fell apart. Marty spent an hour and some olive oil to put it back together. We couldn’t start the car otherwise. He wanted us safely out of the area before the snowstorm. Many B&Bs are nicely decorated and have excellent food. What makes this B&B superior above other is Marty’s personal service and thoughtfulness.

Respuesta del propietario

It was a loving pleasure to be helpful in a desperate time of need. These kind folks had already checked out when they came back with a snapped car key in their hands and no way to get home. We repaired the key for them in our kitchen with some garlic stir fry oil and a jewelers screwdriver. It worked! We knew we bought that flavored oil for something! YAY!!!

This was my first experience at a B & B, I have to say it was Fantastic, after we got there Marti had us a wonderful meal with more than enough food and desserts, we could hardly eat it all, after the meal the massage was "Awsome", I was a virgin so I throughly enjoyed it. Slept like a baby, my room was so comfortable, they had to come and wake me for breakfast, which was an 8 course meal in its self, I really enjoyed the tour of the INN before we left, Marti and his delightful family made our party and night out very special, I will stay there again.

My husband and looked online to find the best B & B to suite our champagne tastes on a beer budget! We looked online and many of the sites had a wonderful theme, but when you got right down to what they had to offer in the month that we wanted to celebrate our 1st wedding Anniversary!; no one could top what Chef Marti has to offer at The Inn of the Patriot B & B. We were in awe, and totally at home with the most pleasant perfect strangers we would ever want to meet. I would never find a better Chef than Chef Marti; and we had such a variety of FRESH fruits, Homemade preserves, and biscuits, you name it he's got it! Charlotte, in the Spa made me feel most beautiful with a complete manicure and pedicure that are still perfectly beautiful 7 days later! We didn't have enough time to finish the most exciting conversations that we never expected to have, so we will definitely keep in touch! You have got to hear Chef Marti's storytelling! And don't miss the other sites that he has to show! We had a simply fabulous time and will go again!!!

I recently stayed at the Inn of the Patriots. It is more than a B & B. It is a step into history of this great nation. Musuem like yet cozy the innkeepers Marti and Stormy put the H in hospitality. The food is phenominal, great rooms all with different themes, a spa, planned events such as battlefiled tours, womens weekend get-a-ways as the man play poker in the basement and can fire live cannons or flint locks. The Inn of the Presidents raises the bar for what every B & B can and should be! I cant wait to return.

If you don't get enough relaxation hannging out in the rocking chairs on the beautiful front porch or in the garden out back you will love getting a massage in the beautiful candle-lit spa room! "The Inn of the Patriot" was truly an awesome experience. The Innkeepers, Martin and Stormy are exceptional hosts, but most of all extraordinary people. They are using their God given talents to serve others. (Especially Incredible Food ) This was our first Bed and Breakfast experience. The home has good history, Camp David- Chief Chef "Marti"as a host and storey teller, and a picturesque setting. My wife and I were obviously impressed and grateful to have had this unique time here to celebrate our 22nd Wedding Anniversary.

Evening With The Girls

5 en agosto 28, 2008

The first "Spa Party" in conjunction with Bellus Tu Spa was so much fun!!! It was so nice to get away for the night - even though it was just 10 miles from home, it was like a mini-vacation. The massage therapy room is a retreat in itself and being able to go downstairs and straight to bed after a massage was wonderful. Marti and Stormy were outstanding hosts and shared a great deal of history about the house and area. The food . . . well, it was just presidential!!!!!!! In fact, it was so good that two of us raided the fridge at 2:00 am! And then managed to eat the 8-course breakfast the next morning! Anyone who needs a great get-away, a 'girls night out', whatever . . . this is the perfect place! - p shelby, nc

Extremely impressed with this operation. My sweetheart and I typically choose out-of-the-way places, and prefer B&B's because of their uniqueness and charm - and the food tends to be not so 'cookie cutter.' We've had a few not-so-great surprises as well, and so we're not really looking for anything unusual - Until we met Marti and Stormy - and yes, that's her Real Name! The hospitality was professional, unobtrusive and superior. The food was simply unbelievable. The rooms well-appointed and it's rare that I don't have a little 'something' to say about my accomodations. But this was a great job and we were impressed. Thank you, Marti and Stormy for a great weekend - looking forward to seeing you again! Kind regards from Allan and Sara
