The Inn and Innkeepers were warm and welcoming. Our room was bright and cozy. The fresh flowers everywhere were a wonderful touch. Breakfast was scrumptious and very filling. All within walking distance to shops and dining. A must return to destination!
We stayed 3 nights....would love to have stayed longer! Kelliegh and David are warm hosts and make you feel like old friends. A highlight of our Maine vacation. Our room was spotlessly clean and fresh. And the breakfasts are amazing!! Not the usual B&B fare, but truly unique and gourmet dishes served in 3 courses and made with local ingredients (the maple syrup is from the trees next to the house!). We plan on returning to Brewster House on our next trip to Maine.
The Inn is well located for exploring the downtown area of Portland without a car. Staff helped us find public transportation and directed us to our destinations. And on a rainy night, the breakfast area was a comfortable place for us to enjoy the excellent Thai meal we ordered in. Looking forward to a return visit.
Stayed in room 1A (king room with private bath) and it was a great room. Had a mini-fridge and coffee maker. It was a very clean hotel. Stayed 2 nights and both nights were great. A few places within walking distance and downtown was a short and in-expensive Lyft ride away. The bars and restaurants were great in the downtown area. Continental breakfast was as to be expected with bagels, cereal, sweets and fruit. The complementary water and cookies in the lobby were an added bonus. Would recommend to anyone staying in the area. Would stay here again.
The Inn at St. John was wonderful! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay and the décor throughout the inn was so charming! I would definitely recommend staying here - excellent accommodations at an incredibly affordable price!
I had a room with a private bath down the hall. Slightly annoying, but the price was excellent compared to other hotels downtown. It's a mile straight shot to downtown so an easy walk to everything. Staff was very friendly, complimentary water! Free parking! The breakfast is there but nothing worth taking part in with the options downtown and nearby Hot Suppa. This was my second time here and I look forward to coming back.
The only hesitation I have making an accurate review of Inn at St. John is future difficulty getting a reservation. Charming structure, personable staff, convenient location (we leave the car in the free lot and walk everywhere) very clean and a great breakfast including for me, a Gluten, Dairy Free person. When asked how often I stay there my answer was 'not often enough.'
This was a wonderful place to stay in Portland. It has free parking, excellent continental breakfast, complimentary waters along with tea/coffee available all day. The staff was very friendly and helpful and our deluxe king room included slippers, robes and even toothbrushes, toothpaste and mouthwash. We will stay here again, if we are in the Portland area!
Our second visit here was just as nice as our first. It's a very comfortable, Europen style hotel with outstanding service and attention to detail. The location is great and parking is free. Rooms are nicely appointed and include thick cotton robes, a tv and just about anything you need. Staff is vey attentive and helpful. Breakfast was a nice addition. We've stayed in a lot of other places in Portland but this is our preferred place to stay. Excellent value and uber clean.
For those looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Portland that is not a chain motel or hotel, check out the Inn at St. John. It's about a 5-7 min drive (not really walking distance) from downtown Portland and the waterfront with lots of great restaurants and shops. Great variety of types of sizes of rooms but try to avoid rooms facing the street which can be a bit noisy since the inn is across the street from a major hospital. Breakfast is just continental but definitely adequate, though sitting area is very small.
As always, the Inn at St. John provided a cozy, affordable stay on the Portland peninsula. The rooms are well-appointed; the staff is more than helpful. A wonderful alternative to an over-priced hotel or uncertain Air B&B.
I was very pleased with my recent stay here. The staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive to you. Always greeting you with a smile and a hello when you enter. The place is very well cared for and clean. My room had a fridge provided as well as slippers and robes. Nice attention to details. My only wish is that the breakfasts could have been a little healthier. I know it is hard when you are only providing breads and cereals. There was fresh fruit however which was nice. Perhaps some whole wheat breads and things with less sugar and fat would be good. That is my only suggestions. Otherwise the place was perfect and I will definitely return.
The Brewster House has found an unusual blend of characteristics that really puts it in a very special class. In the Bed and Breakfast environment there is the risk of missing out on privacy that ensures comfort. The intimacy of thoughtfully laid out, and beautifully appointed rooms is what sets the Brewster House apart. It's hard to miss the owner's ability to serve up an experience that speaks to their ability to pay attention to the details that make you feel at home. And that's a great thing, when there are always high expectations connected to getting away. IT's a great spot, and an even better choice.
The thing is that the inn is a steal. The rooms are as I described, quite small but very nicely decorated, the staff is more than helpful and smiling. Great location in Portland but not downtown, which is fine with us because we like to get to and away from the places we stay easily on our day to day travels in any given area. Less traffic. Great place. We will stay there again.
We stay here often when we come to Portland Maine for a visit. It's fun to try out different rooms, as they all have their own charm and the Inn is always so welcoming and immaculately clean. Had a lovely weekend and can't wait to return again soon!
We stayed in room 8A, one flight above the lobby, and were pleased with the quaint room and spacious bathroom. When we were looking for places to eat, we used the black binder with menus but found that one of the restaurants that caught our eye had gone out of business... so it should be updated. As others have mentioned, the neighborhood is a little sketchy but we had no problem walking home late from downtown. All in all, the value is great and we would definitely stay here again!
We spent our honeymoon at the Chadwick and it was simply amazing! The overall atmosphere was so relaxing. The locale was close to all of our planned activities. And most importantly, the level and quality of service from Erin was top notch! Will definitely recommend!
