Deb and Tim were outstanding and met our every need. They went above and beyond and made our weekend so very special. We will be back and The Wash House was perfect! Thank you Thank you Thank you
Our host was great! Dan was personable, friendly and attentive. Our room (Thomas Hart Benton room) was spacious and beautiful. I really liked the combination of the period look with modern styling in the bathroom. The bathroom was fully tiled and well lit. We never got the opportunity to use the jacuzzi tub since we had such a short trip but it was very inviting. We weren't crazy about the bed (we're short and it was hard to get into the tall bed) but it was soft (too soft?) and cozy. And VERY clean. Everything was very clean. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful at night; we always felt safe. Our host prepared delicious, hearty breakfasts and definitely made us feel very much at home, especially with the four legged co-hosts, Bella and Greta. Since we came to St. Louis via Amtrak, we rented a car because we weren't sure what activities we would be doing and where things were. We probably could have used Uber or taxis for the price of the rental car, especially given that there was a Cardinals baseball double header and parking downtown was limited and very pricey. The Anheuser-Busch Brewery was within walking distance. A beautiful park is across the street. Downtown St. Louis is just minutes away by car. The only downfall was all the rain! We booked our trip via Amtrak (confirmation came from Orbitz) and had no troubles. Thank you Dan, Bella and Greta for a lovely get-away! It was perfect and exactly what we needed.
I spent two nights at the Benton Park Inn, and enjoyed my stay thoroughly. The Inn is attractively furnished, the room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Dan is a gracious and attentive host, and the surrounding neighborhood is a lovely old area, with a park across the street, and restaurants within a few blocks. My only criticism is that my room was not well set up for someone who either works or does serious reading in the room.
We had another delightful stay at Maple Leaf Cottage Inn. Set in the dear village of Elsah, across from the bluffs and near the Mississippi, this B&B is the perfect spot for a peaceful getaway. We woke to a lovely chorus of birds singing, caught a glimpse of deer that had come down for some breakfast while we ate ours, and drank in the aroma of the flowering trees on our walk through town. Deborah, the host, is so friendly. We enjoyed a relaxing chat with her around the fire in the evening. She is very attentive to the needs of her guests, serving up a delicious breakfast tailored to your dietary needs. And she's happy to share with you tips on local places to dine and visit. The rooms are charming. A frequent visitor, I've stayed in several of them, and each has its own personality. This time, I stayed in the Maples, a personal favourite, because of the beautiful garden outside the front door, but also had my first stay in the Buggy Shop. The Buggy Shop offered us a place to gather and spend family time together. I'm looking forward to checking out the newly renovated Wash House on another visit.

This was our second stay at the Inn and we'll keep coming back as long as we can. We thought we might stay in the main house this time, but the summer kitchen is like our little house and we love it! We love the town, the inn keepers and everything about the area. Truly a relaxing getaway!
We stayed at the Forget-Me-Not Bed and Breakfast while on a short getaway for our anniversary. It was definitely a pleasant experience. The house is beautiful. The owners, Chuck and Magretta, were so sweet and gracious. The room was very clean and spacious, with a very comfortable bed. And the breakfast was amazing... fluffy scrambled eggs, perfectly fried bacon, and Finnish pancakes with Bananas Foster topping. We loved our stay and look forward to coming again!
I've never been moved to write a review before, but the service we received at the Benton Park Inn was amazing! Dan went above and beyond to make us feel at home! The homemade breakfasts were delicious (the bananas foster waffles - OMG). The Inn was immaculate and charming. Our room (the Virginia Manor Suite) was huge and the king sized bed super comfy! The bathroom was also spacious and the jet bath tub added to the relaxing experience. The location was great, my husband enjoyed an early morning run around the park which was just outside the door of the Inn and all the touristy things we wanted to see were within 10 minute drives (and there was secure and safe parking). Finally, we loved Dan's dogs who were super sweet and loved being petted! The only downfall was the Pirates losing to the Cards while we were in town! Stay at Dan's Inn, you won't regret it!
Wonderful B&B with wonderful owners! My wife and I had a four-night stay in the Lafayette room for our honeymoon week spent in beautiful St. Louis. The pictures of the room (from Google) were accurate, the food was extraordinary, the neighborhood quiet and peaceful (we took many walks), and conversation that I couldn't have asked for better! Mike and Kathy are both very personable people and have their guests' best interests at heart. We loved our stay and are planning to re-visit for our 1-year anniversary! 10/10 would recommend!
We have had the pleasure of visiting this lovely B&B many times over the years. It changed ownership several years ago and we a few weeks ago. It had always been our favorite place to escape life and return to the simpler joys of peaceful surroundings in a quaint, beautiful tiny town. We were so delighted to see and experience the reblooming of this beautiful retreat. The new owners have breathed new life and spirit into this charming retreat. Their love and zest for the town of Elsah created in us, a joy we had not experienced. They are truly amongst the the most delightful innkeepers we have encountered, on our many stays at B&B's across America. Elsah is a wonderful destination B&B, as well as a simple get away for those of us, lucky enough to live close by. It is a quaint town and has lovely areas to explore. We chose to visit a nearby winery, overlooking the great Mississippi River, with absolutely stunning views. We received a great dinner recommendation from the owner and enjoyed a great and casual meal, close by. The lovely touches they have made to the Inn make it ever so more special. The fire pit outside, with chairs is so welcoming. We were even brought popcorn and lemonade, as we sat outside. Fresh cookies in our room were wonderful. And breakfast was a delicious treat. The Innfulfilled and then exceeded our expectations. We are so pleased to know that the tradition and history of the Maple Leaf Inn continues and grows.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 day stay at Maple Leaf Cottage Inn. The room was clean and inviting. It was everything that we expected in a Bed and Breakfast. The service and breakfast were very good . All of this tucked into a small village that was quiet and cozy. The decorations were the final touch that completed an exceptional time..
We come every year to enjoy the peace and wonderful rooms. The Lincoln Suite was just perfect this time- we have tried several of the rooms over the years. From the wine and cheese to the jacuzzi tub with fire- Romance is always in the air at the Lodge at Grant's Trail.
My partner and I love staying with Dan at the Benton Park Inn. The atmosphere is very relaxed and it's easy to communicate about our needs. Dan is very flexible. We've stayed in the Virginia room twice now and love it. Everything is lovely and clean. We're considering staying for more than one quick night on business the next time we have a chance to remain longer in the area.
The owners were great, and everyone in the town was friendly. Such a cute little historic town to explore. We truly enjoyed the location. The rooms were cute and comfortable. The Tavern across the street was delicious for dinner, and breakfast by David and Marcia was perfect. We are already looking forward to coming back. We stayed within Maeystown, but there is so much surrounding it to explore as well. Marcia and David are very knowledgeable of the area and gave great suggestions.
My husband and I are both busy teachers, and we really needed a weekend away, out of town and with the toddler staying with grandparents. We love old world European charm, and Maeystown hit the spot with being only a couple hours from home. The inn was lovely, even beautiful. Like you would see in Victorian Era movies. Everything was clean and functional. The breakfast was delicious. We even had to leave very early our last morning and got left some fruit, muffins, and coffee for the road. The innkeepers were friendly and accommodating (no pun intended). The town is charming. The tavern across the street had great food at quite reasonable prices. Attractions are nearby for a nice day out, which we visited several by following maps provided and explained at the inn. We are both generally frugal with travel, and the evening we arrived we were already talking about coming back in the summer. Highly recommended!
Kathy was wonderful. Her cooking was wonderful. She went out of her way to accommodate us and made sure we were comfortable. We will definitely stay again and recommend all of our friends to stay there as well.
The bed was one of the most comfortable we've been in outside our own house, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious with unusual homemade wonders. The cold banana bisque was really tasty even though it sounds awful, and the German-style pancakes were excellent.
Was on a short trip to St. Louis and picked this B&B to stay and was not disappointed. The couple who ran the place were so cute and pleasant. I've met some B&B operators who were not... they also have most wonderful dogs, Hayley and Spike, who greets you when you arrive. What a joy it was to be in their company. My wife fell in love with them. My favorite part of stay at this B&B was their little library. And their large selection of teas to enjoy while reading in the library... I hope to revisit soon.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Benton Park Inn. The house is beautiful, has that old world charm that is so welcoming, and has a homey feel. The room we stayed in is spacious, - comfortable bed, large bathroom, plenty of amenities. Most of all we so appreciated the host's hospitality. We were warmly welcomed, and made to feel at home right away. Breakfast was plentiful and delicoious! I highly recommend Benton Park Inn.
Stayed 2 nights and had a wonderful time. Connie and Gary have great knowledge of the area, including interesting sites and restaurants. You can see the Mississippi river from the table were Connie serves you a wonderful breakfast and the afternoon sweet treats are great. Really neat, quaint town. We saw bald eagles over the Mississippi and Illinois rivers. Would love to go back.
We stayed in the wash room, it's a stand alone building and it was very well decorated, as well as clean. The owner is the best, she goes above and beyond to make you feel at home, and you will.. If ever in the area again, I will definitely stay there again.. Thanks Deb, for a great stay, see ya again.. :)
Mike and Kathy make us feel welcome and comfortable - home away from home. The Park Avenue is beautiful! The location, neighborhood setting, is great and convenient. We have stayed several times and plan to stay again. A highly recommended experience.
We made a last minute decision to visit St. Louis for a weekend and were very lucky to find a room available at the Park Avenue Mansion at such short notice. It was our first visit to this beautiful B&B and the proprietor could not have been any nicer or more helpful. The house has been lovingly restored and looks totally amazing. Its like stepping back in time, but with all the modern conveniences we come to expect, such as TV and ensuite bathrooms. The garden/courtyard is a tranquil and private little haven and just the perfect place to eat a gourmet breakfast. The area is so quiet and yet there are plenty of amazing restaurants within walking distance. Mike helped us pick somewhere to eat and would have booked a table for us if we needed it! We definitely plan to go back and hopefully spend more time there next time.
