My wife and I stayed for 4 nights and 3 days in mid April, Since this is after the skiers and before the swimmers, we were the only guests at the Heavenly Valley Lodge. Johan and Linda treated us like family with lovely wine, hors d'oeuvres and conversation in the afternoon and and a delightful, varied hot breakfast in the morning. They were very helpful in directing us to activities even during the off-season. Mimi and Carl from Georgia.
We came for a weekend of skiing in March. We were planning on skiing at SugarBowl and wanted to stay somewhat close without paying the exorbitant fees of the resort. We stumbled upon Donner Lake Inn B&B and decided to book it. We arrived just before Mindy and Paul were heading to bed, so Paul showed us our room and give us a quick run down of the next day. The room (Bear's Lair) very comfortable and cozy, and just the right size. The bathroom was a little small, but certainly sufficient and the shower was nice and hot and had good water pressure. Breakfast was fantastic. We had to head to Sugarbowl early to get our rentals and make it to a morning lesson, so Paul and Mindy were very accommodating and let us start breakfast a few minutes early. The first day we had a baked french toast and homemade yogurt and both were amazing. They are generous with their portions and so we were definitely full by the time we hit the road. After a nice day of skiing, we joined them for snacks in the afternoon in the great room. They served hot cocoa and apple cider and banana bread, which was perfect and we played a nice game of Scrabble. After dinner, we also used their outdoor hot tub which was exactly what we needed to ease our sore muscles. The next morning, breakfast was again delicious: potatoes, sausage, quiche, and homemade biscuits. Right before we checked out, Paul took our pictures which I thought was a nice touch. He also had one day lift tickets that he sold us and that allowed us to skip the line at the mountain. Overall, this trip exceeded our expectations. Paul and Mindy are gracious hosts and their inn makes for a lovely place to call home. If we return to Sugarbowl again, we will definitely consider staying there again.
Johan and Linda are very kind, helpful, and attentive. The food is absolutely delicious, and the rooms were very clean, comfortable, and fun. It was like staying in a log cabin, with the fireplace to boot. Linda and Johan were also very knowledgeable about the Tahoe area, and made excellent recommendations for sightseeing and incredible meals around town. I would jump at the opportunity to stay with them again, and I highly recommend the Heavenly Valley Lodge to anyone planning a Tahoe vacation.
Linda and Johan really made our first trip to Lake Tahoe extra special! The Lodge is well-situated a mile or so from the center of South Lake Tahoe, right on the shuttle line close to Heavenly's California Lodge. They were full of welcome and many helpful hints about the great features of the area and how to get around. Everything at the Lodge is convenient and charmingly decorated. If you get the chance to stay there, by all means do it. You will not be disappointed if comfort and warm hospitality matter!
Truly, our stay at the Donner Lake Inn B&B was just marvelous. It exceeded expectations. Paul and Mindy are such welcoming, knowledgeable, and kind hosts. Our room was lovely, clean, comfy, and warm. We loved using the hot tub and wandering down to the lake. The location is perfect to enjoy downtown truckee and the nearby snow resorts without being in the congestion of it all. Most importantly, the breakfasts were gourmet, and Mindy took the time to cater to my dietary needs. We loved sharing company over breakfast and then again in the early evening over wine and hot cocoa. We hope to return! Thanks Paul and Mindy!
This was our second visit to Donner Lake Inn. The breakfasts were excellent and in the evening you can have wine and an appetizer in the great room. The rooms are a little small but for the price they are just fine and everything is very clean. You are always dealing with the owners so you get excellent attention and service. It's very close to Donner Lake and not too far from Sugar Bowl, Northstar, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. Truckee and Tahoe City are easy to get to as well. We feel lucky to have found this gem.
On my way to Tahoe City I got blocked by bad weather. Fireside Lodge's vacancy sign shone through the snow and darkness like a beacon. I received a warm welcome and checked into the Pioneer room which is perfect for reading, writing, and watching TV. I kept the blinds open in the rooms kitchenette and watched the snow fall while catching up on some letter writing. Cell reception was nonexistent but the excellent wireless Internet connection more than made up for it. I enjoyed the breakfast, the cheese and wine, and s'mores. Fireside Lodge is a very welcoming and home-like place to stay.
Ten years ago (previous ownership) my then boyfriend treated to a weekend in Tahoe at Heavenly Valley Lodge. We had a great time, but let's say the lodge needed some TLC. Recently, a drive to Tahoe peaked our interest in stopping at Heavenly Valley Lodge to see if it still existed. Yes and had NEW owners! I decided to surprise my then boyfriend, now husband to a weekend surprise for his birthday and chose Heavenly Valley Lodge. From the moment I made on-line reservations until the morning of our check out, I was made to feel like a long lost friend. The rooms are quaint and cozy! Love the fireplace and nightly cookies!!!! Johan and Linda are very sweet, welcoming and friendly. Happy hour, breakfast and the unique gift barn are all amazing. We will be making return visits and I recommend this location to anyone looking for a quiet getaway with the perks of individual attention and no hassle or rat race. Thank you Linda and Johan! Tami B
Had a great stay with wonderful hosts. Fantastic breakfasts each day plus snacks and wine every afternoon. Mindy and Paul were terrific hosts and gave us great tips on dining and local attractions to see during our stay. I highly recommend the Donner Lake Inn.
Very enjoyable stay. It was a busy weekend with tight itineraries and the host were so accommodating! Knowing we were going to miss breakfast two of the three mornings due to our schedule they were so quick to provide a healthy alternative (packed to go)! Completely unexpected and over the top! The attention to detail and their genuine care for making your stay one of the best is very obvious! The area speaks for itself with the beautiful views and peaceful surroundings. I'm so very glad we have had the privilege to meet Mindy and Paul. Spectacular hosts for sure!
We visited Johan and Linda's B&B the first of September. This was our fourth visit to their wonderful location. We are never disappointed. Linda makes a fabulous breakfast every morning and we thoroughly enjoy Happy Hour around the fire pit!
Paul and Mindy are wonderful hosts, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Beds were extremely comfortable and the food was incredible. Mindy even went out of her way to find delicious gluten free muffins for one of our family members who has a diet restriction. This B&B is a true gem, and we will definitely be back soon!
This was an excellent B & B. The rooms were nice and clean. The owners were very nice and accommodating. The breakfast served everyday was excellent!!! Would love stay here next time we visit Lake Tahoe!!
Back again to stay at Linda and Johan's great B n B, this time for my wife's birthday. We totally enjoy staying with Linda and Johan, making one feel like family. Enjoy the evening cocktails, breakfasts, (even customized for dietary needs) and the welcome cookies. The rooms are all different and unique, cozy and comfortable. Will be back later in the year. If you are a biker, complementary bikes for riding the roads and trails.
My husband and I celebrated our 2 yr anniversary here and it was amazing. The owners are very friendly and sweet. The breakfast was fantastic both mornings. We were there memorial weekend. This place is located in a wonderful location near shops and restaurants. We are planning our second trip here for September. Tim and Casey
We stayed here for 2 nights after visiting San Francisco, we would have liked to have stayed longer! Our hosts Linda and Johan couldn't do enough for us, gave us recommendations on what to do and where to eat, spoilt us with great breakfasts and treated us to happy hour drinks and snacks in front of the fire in the evenings. Our room was so attractive, cosy and clean with every extra you could think of including bathrobes, coffee making facilities and a fridge. The location was great, you can walk down to the lake in about 10 minutes. I would not hesitate to recommend this lovey lodge!
My husband and I stayed here for out anniversary and we're just so pleased with the whole experience. The innkeepers, Johan and Linda, we're extremely kind. There was an amazing homemade breakfast every morning, fresh cookies in our room every day and a great happy hour each evening. We will definitely be staying here again and will be referring family and friends if they ever come to Lake Tahoe.
Once again my wife and I had the opportunity to stay at the Lodge. This being our ??? number of times back (at least twice a year). Linda and Johann make you feel at home and part of the family with great rooms, cocktail happy hour, and breakfast--all for a great price. Love the people and the place and will be back!!
Linda and Johan were some of the nicest people I've met. They go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. The breakfast and cocktail hour was an incredible part of our stay here. The location is also perfect on the way to the California lodge at Heavenly.
We really enjoyed the hospitality of Linda and Johan. The breakfasts were amazing as were the cocktail hours with yummy appetizers and generous cocktails. We were able to meet and chat with the other guests. By breakfast time it was like we knew the other guests quite well. Linda and Johan were amazing at going out of their way to honor all of our requests and provide directions and lots of advice and recommendations of places to snowshoe and x-country ski. Dining suggestions were a home run every time! The truly cared about making our stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible.
The Donner Lake Inn is an excellent B & B with good access to Donner Lake and Truckee CA. Paul and Mindy are exceptional hosts with lots of personality and lots of info about the area including restaurants, drives, hikes and other local activity. The B & B and the rooms are well maintained. They have quality beds, linens, towels, robes etc. There is a newer hot tub on the property for viewing of the stars, relaxing, etc. An afternoon snack with drinks is provided and early morning coffee is also available. Paul and Mindy seem to know what their guests will want and they are very accommodating. The breakfast was fantastic and on the morning that we were there it was homemade with red, white and blue accents since it was Veterans Day-they are very appreciative of Veterans. The breakfast was communal and provided an interesting and informative conversation. This is our second time at the Donner Lake Inn and the first time was excellent and it has only gotten better!
