My husband surprised me with a two day getaway at this sweet Block Creek B&B cottage. It was a very beautiful and serene setting with deer and birds and wildlife galore just out the glance of the large bedroom surrounded by windows. We were 20 minutes away from downtown Comfort and 30 away from downtown Fredericksburg. We spent our long day shopping and eating in downtown Fredericksburg where there is plenty to do. It took us all day. We spent our short day in Comfort where there is much more limited things to do. In the evenings we ate at a nearby cafe who boasted their "Cover Burger" known for making the cover of the Texas Monthly 50 best burgers issue. It was delish. There is no onsite dining. They do offer a continental breakfast with some bread and muffins. We didn't opt for it but the reviews in their guest book said it was delicious. There is a small kitchen with a refrigerator and microwave (no stove) if you wanted to make something that you bring yourself. They also leave soda's, snacks, water and coffee for guests. Sharron and Larry Jay live in the main house a short walk away and are available to address any needs you have. They do wildlife photography and I believe they can organize groups and trainings although we didn't do any. We highly recommend this little cottage if you want a remote and quiet getaway. We had a lovely time.

We have been to the Fredericksburg area many times and usually try different places, but the Block Creek B&B is going to be a repeat destination from now on. The 1890’s cottage was absolutely beautiful. Totally quiet, relaxing, and comfortable stay from the first minute to the last. It’s about 20 minutes South of downtown Fredericksburg, and then an “adventurous” 2 mile drive on a private dirt road (the road is well maintained, and my VW Jetta easily made it… not a four-wheel-only trip). Upon arrival we were greeted by Sharron and Larry and made to feel welcome immediately. On their recommendation we went to the Old Tunnel State Park just a few miles back on Old San Antonio Hwy to watch the bats emerge at dusk. Just a few hundred yards away from the tunnel is the Alamo Café, also recommended by Sharron and Larry. The Alamo is an awesome little burger joint ! They have lots of outdoor seating and live music on the stage out back. The burger was one of the best I’ve ever had… ever! Two people can easily split a burger and order of fries and leave full. Return to the B&B to enjoy a constellation light show while you share a bottle of wine on the front porch, or read a book in the comfortable living room. We were happy to be without TV, without phones… totally without any unwanted distractions. We fell asleep to the cricket’s song and woke to see deer grazing just outside our bedroom… two full walls of windows open to the private, wooded, hill country beauty. Just outside the cottage we sat overlooking the nearby pond with coffee and homemade cranberry bread, muffins, and fresh fruit… just heavenly. Sharron came down and joined us for some more pleasant conversation before we had to pack up and head back to reality. What a completely enjoyable stay we had, and we would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
