Shafer Baillie Mansion was fabulous! It’s in a great neighborhood and close to downtown. The rooms were beautiful and clean! It was nice and quiet. The owner is wonderful. I met her at breakfast and she’s very nice and knowledgeable. It was a wonderful treat staying in such a beautiful mansion!

Great location with on-street parking. Wonderful breakfast and very helpful hostess. We stayed in the Master Suite which was roomy and comfortable for our party of 4, as there are 2 rooms with beds. We would gladly stay here again.

This is a gorgeous home in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. The owners have done a marvelous job of restoring its glory. Our room, on the third floor, was lovely and had a tranquil tree-top view. Though the bathroom was small, it served one's needs. The breakfast was nice and presented well, in the formal dining room. Anna and Brenda are gems to be treasured. A delightful stay!

Shafer Baillie is a converted mansion located in the vibrant Capital Hill neighborhood just a couple of miles up the hill from downtown Seattle. Good restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance plus Volunteer Park! Upscale continental breakfast-- included smoked salmon, fresh berries. Our room was nice with a comfortable 4-Poster bed. Lovely common rooms--sun room, library, living room with a piano. Full of antiques. If you want serenity from every day life this is the place to stay.

We enjoyed this neighborhood very much. Close enough to walk to 15th street for restaurants. Broadway, too. Hills are minimal so cycling is workable for non-seniors. Beautiful rooms and lovely staff. On-site breakfast is good. We like fresh fruit and salmon and both were always available. Plus they always ask if there are any food-related allergies or preferences. They do a nice job.

We had a wonderful stay in this gorgeous house, which is every bit as impressive as in the photos! The neighborhood is also great, short walk to lots of restaurants, nearby Volunteer Park is beautiful. Ana and Brenda were extremely helpful, accommodated our late arrival, helped with transportation needs, and Brenda put on a delicious breakfast! We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

A great place close to downtown Seattle. The house has been remodeled with wonderful antique furniture and rooms. A must when in Seattle. Besides the sheets are like sleeping on a cloud. We will be back often and have recommended it to friends already

My husband and I stayed at the Shafer Ballie Mansion in Seattle in early July. We chose this B&B because of the reviews and the fact that they had a TESLA charger on site. Our room was perfect. The dining, room, sitting room and living room were decorated with loving care. Our breakfasts made and seved by Brenda were delicious and we sat with other guests and had good food and good conversation. It was a short walk to restaurants and shops. I would love to visit Seattle and stay there again.

This was my second stay at Shafer Baillie. I vow to always stay here for all my returns to Seattle. Lovely soft towels, and bedding. Clean and comfortable. Bottles of water available as well as a nightly treat under the cake dome! Great walking distance to restaurants, stores and park. I had a fantastic bagged breakfast waiting for me as I left for an early flight home. Brenda was very hospitable! Thanks to her for making my stay so wonderful!

Beautiful bed and breakfast located on Capital Hill. The location was convenient for use of public transportation and a train rides was a quick 5 minutes from downtown Seattle. The mansion was beautifully furnished with period decor and the rooms were comfortable and ultra clean! The breakfast was simple but tasty. Great hostesses! We will be back.

We stayed at the Shafer Baillie Mansion for three nights. We chose this B&B because they had a TESLA charger. Our room was perfect and each morning a wonderful breakfast was presented in the lavish dining room.We took the ferry to Victoria, Canada and toured the old city and Butchart gardens. Seattle is a vibrant city and staying at the Mansion was an amazing experience in a beautiful setting.

This was my first experience at a bed & breakfast. The Shafer Baillie Mansion was absolute perfection - from the ambiance, to the delicious breakfast spread, the magnificent rooms, and the wonderful owner and innkeeper. They really made our stay and celebration of my niece's graduation even more special. Thank you so much! We will be back!!

I was looking for a place to stay while visiting my daughter who lives in the neighborhood. It's the nicest B&B I have ever stayed in. I was greeted by Brenda and immediately felt welcome and at home. I loved my room and view of the leafy street below. It was spotless and the bed was very comfortable ( a must for my poor back). Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. They even made sure I had a gluten-free goodie every morning. My daughter was welcomed as well and we enjoyed our evening wine in the conservatory, parlour or library according to our mood and the weather. I very highly recommend "the manse" without reservation. I can't wait to go back!! Jami

A stay at this B&B was the perfect way for us to begin our honeymoon. From the comfortable bed to the wonderful shower to the first class breakfast, nothing could have been better. Romantic is the right word to use here. Lots of places to eat, gorgeous neighborhood to walk through, lovely hosts - stay here and you will not be sorry.

We were made to feel very much at home in this delightful old home in lovely part of Seattle. Anna certainly ensured we had everything we needed, and we met some great people over a relaxed and very good breakfast in the main dining room. Explore the house and its history - and then sit with a coffee and good book in one of several relaxing areas. We are very happy to have found Shafer Baillie Mansion. Would go back and have recommended to others.

A truly wonderful place to stay when visiting Seattle. Out of the city bustle and tucked into a quiet, pretty neighborhood, yet still close to plenty of things. An elegant old mansion with clean, very nice rooms and an overall cozy feel. Breakfast is hearty and good. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Once again we enjoyed our stay at Shafer Baillie Mansion. We have been coming back for years while visiting our son in Seattle. It has become our home away from home. The comfort of the rooms, the warm welcomes and delicious breakfasts keep us coming back. Brenda and Ana Lena are the most gracious hosts and make every stay special!

My wife and I spent two nights at Shafer Ballie for an in-town getaway following our wedding and found this to be the PERFECT spot for a romantic weekend together. Wonderful away-from-the-crowds location on quiet tree-lined street is also well situated for easy walking or transit to various hot spots around town. Kind hosts, a picture-perfect room and a delicious breakfast made it all the more wonderful – as did the VERY reasonable price; definitely one of the best values in town. (I almost didn't want to write this review for fear of spoiling such a hidden gem, but they certainly deserve the kudos and support.) Can't wait to come back!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Situated in a beautiful neighborhood, Shafer Baillie Mansion is a gem of a B & B that offers European hospitality in the Seattle. Ana and her staff, especially, Brenda are outstanding hosts. I stayed in the Central ballroom room, which during winter, offers a view of the Space Needle.

My husband and I stayed at the Mansion for two nights and loved this place. We'd go back. It was quiet, even though, as we discovered at breakfast, it was fully booked. Breakfast was delicious and it was fun to meet the other guests. Brenda gave us excellent advice about walking routes to downtown locations we wanted to visit. We also walked to nearby neighborhood restaurants both nights and had very good dinners. The Mansion itself is a slice of history and fun to explore.

We spent two nights at the Shafer Baillie Mansion in the Queen Anne Hill Room. The homemade breakfast items like the scones And the local fare like the coffee cheese and salmon were amazing. Felt like you were staying in a home not a hotel. Amazing stay in a great historical area

I stayed in the Southwest Ballroom on the 3rd floor and the room was spacious and comfortable . There is no bath but is a very well appointed small new bathroom with heated tile floor. The breakfasts are excellent with all you could need. Tea/coffee and some snacks are available 24/7. The seating areas in mansion are plentiful , quiet and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The area is superb being very close to Volunteer Park and public transport but on a quiet street

From the perfectly appointed rooms to the breakfast bar with salmon and fresh Storyville coffee to the leather reading chair in the library, the SB Mansion is a wonderful vacation destination. The location is convenient to downtown Seattle and also just a block from Volunteer Park, which has a great view of the city. The manager, Brenda, is one of the friendliest and most interesting people you'll ever meet.

Such a beautiful mansion with lots of personality! Owner and innkeeper very attentive. Great location and parking never a problem. Lots of attention to detail and I will definitely go there again. Agree with another review about the quality of towels not being up to the standards to the rest of the establishment. With that added improvement, I would give it an A+ review.

We had a great stay at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. The room was large enough to accommodate our family and it was very comfortable. It was interesting to review the history of the house and neighborhood in the library. The owner, Ana, and the innkeeper, Brenda, were so personable and helpful. There is a feeling of warmth and embracing that we experienced during our stay, that made our trip a real joy. (The food was tasty too!)

Just returned from our 10th or 11th stay at this marvelous B&B in Seattle's Capital HIll neighborhood and a short walk to Volunteer Park and the wonderful Seattle Asian Art Museum. As always our room was clean, comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was delicious and generous, and the conversation around the table with the other guests always pleasant. Whenever we come in from our day's activities, there's always a pick-up of fresh fruit, a handful of Dilettante chocolates (yum!), or just a cup a hot tea or coffee to enjoy. We can't imagine staying anywhere else when we visit Seattle!

This is by far my favorite B&B anywhere. Have stayed here probably a dozen times, and tried most rooms. The manager, Brenda, could not be more welcoming, and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home. Location is great, plenty of easy parking on the street, walk to Volunteer Park and many shops/restaurants. The perfect Seattle retreat.

Stayed 4 nights in December. The mansion was beautifully, classically decorated. The hostess, Brenda, was very entertaining and very capable. The quiet, spacious room was great, with heated bathroom floors in a totally new bathroom. Saw many rooms; all were classy. The price, including a very nice breakfast (more complete than listed) was competitive for Seattle. Easy bus ride from the corner to downtown, but the neighborhood is great to stay in. Light rail nearby. Highly recommended.

From the moment we checked-in, we were greeted by a very friendly staff, excellent hospitality, outstanding accommodations and a tour of the home. There were snacks and beverages available 24/7 and breakfast the next morning included freshly made baked goods, fresh fruit, salmon, cheeses, etc. It reminded us of Fruhstuck in Germany! The home exudes warmth and the history of the mansion is fascinating. We can give an unqualified recommendation to stay here. You will enjoy yourselves immensely.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay here very much. The building is full of character and history, the bedroom was spacious and the public rooms - library, dining room, lounge and conservatory- were great places to sit and relax. Breakfast was very good and we appreciated the take away breakfast on our final morning as we had to leave early for our flight. I booked 2 nights at Shafer Baillie Mansion because it reminded me somewhat of Downton Abbey. Everything about our stay was lovely. Anna Lena, our warm host, was there to greet us upon arrival and settle us into our room. The decor was beautiful and we enjoyed taking advantage of the sunroom to relax and read. Anna Lena was more than helpful with dinner reservations and transportation questions. Breakfast was simple but plentiful and delicious. We couldn't have asked for a nicer experience. Will definitely recommend Shafer Baillie to anyone traveling to Seattle.

My husband and I stayed here the weekend after Labor Day. It was our first weekend away from our toddler who is 20 months. Gloriously comfortable beds that we gratefully slept straight through the night in. Our hostess, Brenda, was lovely and makes a great egg breakfast. The home is beautifully restored with great light in all of the rooms. I found the price to be affordable and it's location to the rest of Seattle to be ideal. We easily grabbed an uber, walked or rented city bikes to scoot around the city.

The mansion has a unique traditional atmosphere. We stayed in the master suite which accommodated all five of us comfortably, and we had plenty of room. We enjoyed visiting with other guests at breakfast. The coffee served was some of the best we've ever had. Just up the street is Volunteer Park which has lovely views from the water tower and the Museum of Japanese Art. The area is very walkable. Just a couple of blocks away is 15th street where we found several restaurants, cafes, bars, and drugstores. This was an ideal location for a Seattle stay.

The Shafer Baillie Mansion is probably one of the best B&B's you will find anywhere. A magnificent house, beautifully and meticulously renovated by the lovely owner Anna. Our room was stunning and we wished we'd had more than 2 nights to enjoy in this wonderful house and in Seattle. Brenda greeted us and we were lucky to meet both her and Anna during our stay - they were both so welcoming and helpful and nothing was any trouble. The whole place is spotlessly clean and the breakfasts are magnificent, with a plentiful supply of fresh fruits, cereals and porridge, as well as meats and cheeses. We were also welcome to help ourselves to coffee/tea and cakes during the day if we wished. Loads of rooms to relax in on the ground floor and a lovely sociable big table for breakfast where we enjoyed mingling with the other guests. We were able to walk into the city from the house or catch one of the frequent buses - everything was so easy and the residential area the house is in is lovely. If we ever return to Seattle, and we certainly hope to one day, we will most certainly return to the Shafer Baillie and it would feel like coming home. Gill

We were expected and warmly greeted upon arrival. The host was wonderful providing historic insight into the mansion and anticipating our needs with various amenities throughout the Mansion(water, small treats, board games in the study, etc). Our room was beautiful and the bed provided excellent sleep. The parking was a concern before arriving, but as is mentioned on the website parking is ample, even with a full mansion. Volunteer park is a block to the north which provides recreation for all ages. We were recommended one of the best seafood restaurants I have ever eaten at, The Coastal Kitchen, a short walk from the mansion. Nothing was lacking, and so much to be enjoyed, a standard of excellence for bed and breakfasts.

We had the rare treat of having the run of the Shafer Baillie Mansion: we were the only guests for one night. My daughter and I stayed in the Central Ballroom, on the third floor. This room has two queen beds, which was perfect for us. The mansion is gorgeous! The scale of the rooms and stairs is very grand and the woodwork and windows are beautiful. You almost feel as if you are living in a mansion. The innkeepers were very helpful, always present, but also unobtrusive, a combination that I found very refreshing. There was coffee/tea/water, fruit, and snacks (chocolates, cinnamon muffins, and scones) always available. There was a very pleasing array of choices for breakfast. Our particular room was very large, with extremely comfortable beds. The tile floor in the bathroom was heated! The sink in the bathroom was very small, a minor drawback. The entire experience of staying at the Shafer Ballie Mansion was outstanding, and was one of my best B&B experiences. Oh, and GREAT location! The mansion is located one block from Volunteer Park, which was also very beautiful and has a lot to see. It is also within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. We walked to Poppy's restaurant, which I highly recommend as well.

This is a beautifully renovated mansion in a wonderful, quiet neighborhood. It is easy walking distance to local parks, retail shops and restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was outstanding.

Where do I start with this review? Would it be the grand proportions of the panelled dining room where breakfast is served? Would it be the beautifully appointed sitting rooms, which take you back to days gone by? The bright and airy sun room? The speakeasy downstairs, or the library room? Maybe the bedrooms? Well the jaw dropping continues in here too. Each room we saw just invites you in. I believe there are eight guest rooms. We had the Queen Anne Hill room which has a very comfortable four poster bed and an ensuite with a huge walk in shower with shower heads at each end. Bliss after a hard day of sightseeing! Ana the owner and Brenda the innkeeper are extremely friendly and help you out with bus routes, restaurants and general questions. They also like to chat with guests and make them feel at home. Glen the other innkeeper is also friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a feast, with fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, cold cuts, smoked salmon, cheeses, a hot dish, boiled eggs and a variety of breads, juice, tea coffee. It sets you up for the day ahead. Tea, coffee, bottled water, fruit and biscotti are available all day. The room rates are very reasonable too. The Shafer Baillie is a short walk to public transport, bars and restaurants. Some guests did walk downtown, but we opted for the easy public transport option. Seattle is hilly! Would we return? You bet your life we would.

For first time visitors in Seattle, this was a gem of a place to stay. Large rooms to relax in on the first floor, you could think you were Queen of the mansion. Staff was very attentive. Breakfast was a pleasure each day, and allowed you to enjoy it in a 2 hour window to accommodate early/late risers. Location was exceptional in a quiet, majestic neighborhood.

We feel so blessed to have been able to stay at this outstanding Seattle B&B. We learning a lot about the history of the home through the pictures in the library. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was a delight! I'd highly recommend this B&B to anyone who appreciates quality, cleanliness and true class in their travels.

We had heard about the Shafer Baillie Mansion from our son and partner who stayed there a few years back. The on site managers are very welcoming and helpful, the accommodation and decor very individual and comfortable, the whole house having been magnificently restored. The 'extras' at breakfast were splendid and, during a hot spell in Seattle, the free chilled water was very welcome, as was the air conditioning in our room. It's not cheap but you get a lot for your money. Now trying to find a family connection as my mother's Scottish family were named Baillie.

We very much enjoyed our stay. The breakfasts were delicious and a great space to gather each morning. Detail, comfort and cleanliness of all the rooms, common spaces and grounds is superior. Staff are accommodating and friendly without being overbearing. Quite a good value for the area, ot almost feels like a little secret. The quality is top. Bring a friend who plays the piano for a little private concert in the sitting room, the icing on a relaxing afternoon.

My wife and I stayed at the Shafer Baillie Mansion in late April for several days. It is a beautifully restored old mansion with many of the original plumbing fixtures but modern pipes connected to them. They have done a great job in preserving the character of the building. It is very close to Volunteer Park and easy walking distance to restaurants on 15th Ave. The room and bed were quite comfortable and at the time we were there the house was very quiet. At check-in we were met by one of the hosts and given a tour of the house. At breakfast the manager sat with us and made us feel right at home. She was extremely hospitable. I would highly recommend this inn.

Stayed one night before a cruise. Everything was outstanding however the breakfast buffet was underwhelming compared to other top rated B&B's. Walking distance to a beautiful park. Very relaxing location and facility.

We booked our stay on line, so did not know how interesting the area around The Shafer Baillie Mansion was. We enjoyed walking and looking at Millionaire's Row and other sites in the area close to the mansion. The house is extraordinary and it was fun to learn about the immediate area from books and newspaper clippings in the library. We were able to come without a car by taking the light rail from the airport and catching the #10 bus. It was easy to walk the 1 block from the bus stop. We used this bus to go downtown, but we walked to the Space Needle, all down hill. Our room was on the top floor, so we got a view of many of the other rooms in person. Since this was not originally a B&B, all the rooms are unique and different. Many with so much room, so good to consider for a longer stay in Seattle. The staff were lovely and helpful. Glenn introduced us to the house and gave a tour. Brenda makes some clay items in the house as well as conversing with us and making breakfast. Ana, the owner, was at breakfast and told us more about the house. We would stay again. We think it was one of the highlights of Seattle.

What a gorgeous property. Our hosts were so friendly and made sure we knew how to get into the place since we were arriving quite late. I'm a sucker for restored historic mansions, and this B&B did not disappoint. I felt transported back in time. Every detail of this house was stunning. Our room left nothing to be desired (except perhaps a mini fridge!). Soft towels, ridiculously comfortable bed and linens, plenty of closet space, and beautiful furniture. As always, we wish our stay had been longer! Highly recommended.

We had another wonderful time at the Bailey-Shafer BB. The house is so lovely and its obvious the owner and caretakers spend a lot of time maintaining the beauty. Our host, Brenda is warm, funny and makes an incredible breakfast for guests every day. This is the place to stay while in Seattle.

Our family of 4 (parents and 2 teens) were delighted to stay 2 nights in the SE Ballroom on the 3rd floor of this beautiful old home (built in 1914). We had plenty of space in the room, extremely comfortable beds, extra toiletries (cotton balls, q-tips, lotion), and lights for each person to read at night. We started the day with a delicious and varied breakfast - lots of fresh fruit, yogurt, a hot dish, even gluten-free bread (as we mentioned our diet in our email). All the staff - Glenn, Brenda and owner Ana Lena - were very helpful with a couple of challenges we had - a sick daughter and papers we needed to print. We loved the neighborhood, especially walking to meals and stores and not worrying driving and parking! We would definitely stay here again on another visit to Seattle!

My wife and I were in town for a wedding and I happened across the website when trying to find a place to stay. Everything looked good on the outside and the questions I submitted to clarify a couple points were answered within the hour. Room was wonderful, the Innkeepers were very nice and bursting with information to let us know anything about the area as well as the Mansion. Breakfast was more than I expected and we ate a wonderful meal every morning because of it. Highly recommend staying here if you are here for a day or a week.

Was hesitant at first as it was continental breakfast. No worries, Brenda puts out a wonderful feast with first class cheeses, meats, lox and so on. She also had something hot and special on hand each morning as well. Very well stocked "continental breakfast". Now for the mansion itself...OUTSTANDING lovely building with all the necessary modern comforts within. Neighborhood is perfect for walks and cafes and restaurants. Close to downtown if you really want to go there as well. Will definitely return.

Our expectations were exceeded at this historic B & B in Capitol Hill. Location and ambience are top notch but the crowning glory was the warmth and wit of housekeeper Brenda who made us feel as if we were staying at a dear friend's home. Her skills in the kitchen did not go unnoticed as well. Her breakfasts were substantial and delicious, with choices for every taste. Our room was well appointed and was a cozy refuge after a drizzly day of sightseeing. We would highly recommend the SB Mansion as a unique lodging choice when in Seattle! Thanks again Brenda for making us feel at home. Mike and Dave White Rock BC

My husband and I wanted a romantic getaway in town. We needed to recover from our workaday stress and reconnect with each other. We had never stayed in a mansion before, and staying at Shafer Baillie Mansion was very enjoyable. We loved our room which showed such attention to detail. We loved the various common rooms. We enjoyed a variety of tasty snacks and beverages available twenty-four hours a day. We also enjoyed all the delicious offerings at breakfast, especially the fresh berries. One of the best parts of the visit was the service. The innkeepers were warm, friendly, and dedicated to making our stay as pleasant as possible. We felt so relaxed and refreshed from our stay. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Did not exceed my expectations because I have stayed there before. I was very happy with everything about our stay. The only thing that was less than outstanding was that there is a good bit of early morning traffic noise which one might not expect in such an otherwise quiet and lovely neighborhood. The hospitality is both generous and comfortable.

My husband and I felt like royalty while staying here. The neighborhood was beautiful, the mansion was amazing down to every detail. Brenda and Glenn were terrific innkeepers who were able to give great recommendations for places around town. The rooms were very large compared to most B&Bs we have been to. Everything was perfectly restored and modern at the same time. The downside to staying here is that it has spoiled us for other B&Bs in the future.

The house was beautiful and the rooms were very comfortable. I wanted to bring the bed home with me. The breakfast, while not cooked to order, was bountiful and varied. It would be almost impossible to walk away with out finding several things you would love. The best part was the hostess, Brenda. She was so dynamic and welcoming. We loved this B&B and would love to return here.

It's stunning to realize that this architectural gem was once a private residence. All of our hosts, including the owner, Ana, were very cordial and excited to share information about the physical details and history of the Mansion. There are several comfortable common rooms downstairs, oozing with vintage charm. The guest rooms are all bright and roomy with views to the Capitol Hill area and beyond (we could see Elliott Bay and the Olympic Mountains beyond from our bedroom in the aptly-named Elliott Bay Suite). There are shops and restaurants within easy walking distance and the #10 bus (one block away) will take you on a short ride to the heart of downtown Seattle and Pike's Place Market. Overall, this is THE place to stay when visiting Seattle!

This mansion B&B exceeded all expectations and was absolutely the best we've ever stayed at. The staff cares and treats you like family. The mansion is impeccable, warm, comfortable, and very regal. The breakfast was delicious and easily worth $25 in a high end restaurant. The location on millionaires row is awesome. The tree lined streets, exceptionally beautiful homes, and volunteer park at the end of the street is amazing. Just incredible. The value was great and cheaper than a hotel. No noise and you get a idea of local living. We will only stay here while in Seattle.

Yes, we are well traveled B & Ber's, so our expectations are high. The Baillie Mansion served us well. Parking is limited to the street, but during our stay, we readily found a spot. B & B's generally go out of their way to "breakfast impress"; The Mansion did not however. Very much appreciated the bus service just a stroll away from the Mansion. Took us right downtown. SEA is a nightmare insofar as parking is concerned. Take the bus or a cab.

My 17-year-old daughter and I stayed in the Master Suite. What a fabulous room! The original (refurbished?) rib-cage style shower and the soaking tub were amazing. The bathroom was HUGE! Perfect for relaxing in the tub and getting ready together. Loved the neighborhood (on "Millionaire Road" in Seattle), which was so close to Volunteer Park. Brenda and Glen were great hosts. The heavy continental breakfast exceed our expectations...fruit, pastries, cheese, hard-boiled eggs plus bagels with smoked salmon, fruit crisp, egg and sausage strata and more. Because I desperately needed a vacation, I was so out of it that I accidentally booked for the wrong weekend. Cut to my dismay when I show up and they're caught off guard, not expecting any guests that evening. Not only did they honor my reservation for the next week then and there, but they gave me my pick of rooms. The place is exquisite, my bed was super comfy and the host super welcoming. It was unusually cold outside so I had been freezing all day- you'd think an old house would be drafty? Not so. Warm throughout! No cold spots at all. Walked to great coffee and restaurants the next morning. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Took my wife to Shafer-Baille Mansion for her 26th birthday/early Christmas getaway. We rented the King Suite and loved it. The place was very well put together, very clean, and very comfy for such a large space. We were amazed at how peaceful and quite it was the weekend we were there. The service was great, we were given a short tour of the place, and were able to meet Ana the owner in the morning. Breakfast was poorly represented in lots of previous reviews I read, but my wife and I loved the breakfast setup. they had a great variety of food, and did a very good job of catering to any reasonable requests. We had breakfast alone for the most part which, we both kind of liked (we are more reserved), but we were able to meet some other guests during our time there. It was a great experience, and I would recommend it to any young couples our age (24-30) looking to splurge a little, have a memorable night out, have a romantic weekend, etc. I don't have anything bad to say about this place.....Oh, also, go to the french bakery down the road! It's amazing!

What a beautiful house! They don't build em like this anymore. Looks as good in person as the pictures show. You will not be disappointed. They went through a first class restoration process and have binders of photos in the library off the foyer that show before and after. But enough about the house itself. In the course of our 4 night stay we met the owner Ana Lena who was very friendly and accomodating and we were tended to daily by Brenda and Glenn.....each of whom would go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They gladly provided advice and directions prior to our leaving for a day of adventure. Breakfast was served buffet style each morning providing a variety of options including fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, cereal, smoked salmon, prosciutto ham, hard boiled eggs, cheeses, mini cinnamon rolls, danish, english muffins, bagels, and sometimes an egg casserole. As filling as you want it to be. We stayed in the "Volunteer" room which was great with plenty of room, a nice period bath and it had a walk in closet. The bed was quite comfortable and we slept sound. For dinner each night we ate down on 15th street which was maybe a 4 block walk from the house. We found it easier to walk rather than drive and park. There are a good variety of bars and restaurants. Our favorite meal was at the Coastal Kitchen where I recommend the Jambalaya....excellent. Capitol Hill is a great neighborhood. We found it very safe. Lots of walkers, many student aged, some mothers with baby in strollers, joggers, dog walkers, you name it. Everyone very polite and helpful the few times we asked for directions. All in all a great stay.

First trip to Seattle and I could not have asked for a better place to rest my head then at Shafter Baillie. The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean, and the food was great to grab and run. I appreciate the extra things like maps and directions for local food and shops. Notes where to catch the bus, etc. They were warm friendly and definitely made the trip fabulous. I will be recommending everyone to stay there!

Husband was there for a conference and we decided to stay outside the city this time. Found Shafer Mansion on Trip Advisor. A really grand place, peaceful and in a neighborhood. Block away from Bus 10 which takes you right downtown. We met some really nice people from all over and had some fun breakfast chats. I had a 12 year old and Ana Lena let her play the piano and welcomed her. Really a wonderful place to experience.

We really enjoyed our stay at he beautiful Baillie Mansion full of charm. Clean, greatly styled, beautifully renovated with great rooms and lots of comfortables sitting areas. We felt welcome and the service was impeccable. They even had almond milk and gluten free bread for us for breakfast. I will come back for sure. And the neighboughood is lovely! Loved it!

This was our second visit to the mansion. I like the location, so near to Volunteer Park. Shops, restaurants and coffee bars are within walking distance. One bus to downtown Seattle. The caretakers are particularly helpful with directions and suggestions for daily fun things to do in Seattle. We'll stay again when in Seattle.

When I learned that I would be visiting Seattle every couple of months, I knew I wanted to find a bed and breakfast that would feel good as a Seattle "home away from home" -- one that offered warm service, attention to detail, comfort and cleanliness, and a rate that seemed reasonable. After sampling a few others in the area, I found Shafer and Baillie and I'm so glad I did. Liz

This is a wonderful old mansion in a great part of Seattle, and the service was friendly and efficient. We had the "master" suite with it's three rooms and huge bathroom with original "steam punk" shower (I was afraid to try! Used the tub!) Huge squeaky bed and squeaky old floors, but all of it beautiful. Our stay was short but really fun, and ended with a very good continental breakfast.

We stayed in the less expensive Queen Ann room during the off season and feel we got a great value for the experience. Comfortable and luxurious, though the mattress is very firm. The view overlooks a parking lot. Beyond that, it is fully renovated with modern amenities and period details. The staff is friendly, but not overly so. Breakfast has variety and quality ingredients. Location is the best! I wish we could stay her all the time.

The house is gorgeous and spacious. The stairs are a great workout. I really enjoyed my stay at the Mansion, the only negative was the buffet style breakfast. I have stayed at many B&B's and have never had a buffet style breakfast. The food was the same day after day. My husband and I would definitely stay here again, but we know that we will be eating breakfast out.

When we decided to have a small, intimate wedding of just immediate family, my (now) wife and I found it was a bit tough to find a venue in town that would be both reasonably priced, as well as accomodating. We stumbled across the Shaffer Baillie pretty early on, and from the getgo, we were impressed. The location is simply gorgeous. They have done an amazing job of maintaining this beautiful prohibition-era home. We chose to do an indoor ceremony, as we were having an early Fall wedding, and the parlor on the main level was absolutely perfect. Brenda, our main contact, was incredibly flexible with us, allowing us to arrange the space in a way that worked for our ceremony. (For the record, there is a gorgeous space outdoors where one could easily do a ceremony. We did photos out there, as we lucked out with a 70 degree day). We decided to go with the in-house catering (which is done by the owner's sister), and couldn't be happier. We served two dishes: chicken and beef tenderloin (well, three if you include the mac and cheese for our nephews) and both were outstanding. In fact, a couple of the people in our party commented that it was one of the best meals they'd ever had. How's that for a wedding dinner? We decided that since the Shaffer Baillie is a B & B, as well as a venue, that we should stay there the night after the wedding (which also allowed us to have a room for my wife to get ready in). We stayed in the Master Suite which is just awesome. It's very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was perfect. So there you have it. Should you stay here? Yes. Should you have your wedding (or birthday, or anniversary party) here? Yes. We are so grateful to Brenda and everyone at the Shaffer Baillie Mansion for helping to make our wedding such a wonderful day.

We enjoyed our stay at the Shafer Baillie Mansion in late September 2013. We stayed for two nights and the food each morning was different and delicious. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They were available whenever we had a question or needed their assistance. The room was quiet and spacious; we had a nice large closet with plenty of hangers.

My husband and I booked a night here based on the great reviews - and we were not disappointed. Awesome location - walking distance to local shops and restaurants, but close to downtown. Mansion is located on picturesque street with plentiful (and free) parking. The mansion itself is beautiful, rooms are quiet and have a "olden" feel but with modern convienences (tv, a/c, etc), beds super comfy and the sheets are heavenly! Breakfast was delicious and everyone is super friendly! Would not hesitate going back.

Loved everything about our stay! Ana and Brenda were both lovely and took wonderful care of us. The breakfast was excellent and had something for everyone. Who could resist fresh berries and prosciutto? Being guests of the Shafer Baillie Mansion was a wonderful experience! Definitely recommend and will stay again given the opportunity. ~Anna (Lori) Lundberg

This is an elegant, yet very friendly inn, where the innkeepers make every effort to help you enjoy your stay and make you feel relaxed and at home. They are knowledgeable about the city, its attractions and the local neighborhood surrounding the inn. The breakfasts are wonderful... the rooms beautiful and immaculately clean. This was my second visit and I would choose to stay here on every Seattle trip! Many thanks!

My husband and I stayed at the Shafer Baillie Mansion for three nights recently. Our suite was beautiful, the bed comfortable, and the atmosphere perfect for relaxing. The common rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was served in the beautiful dining room, and the morning that we had to leave early, they packed a "to go" meal for us. We will definitely stay here the next time we are in Seattle. (The mansion is on Capital Hill - you can walk almost anywhere but be warned that Seattle is full of hills!)

This is a beautiful, historic mansion in most lovely neighborhood in Seattle. Right next to Volunteer Park and a short walk from downtown. The owners and staff tailor your experience to make it your own. We call Shafer-Baillie "our mansion in Seattle." We keep going back and plan to on our next stay in the area next year. Kudos to Brenda's amazing breakfasts, to Glen's quiet kindness, and to Ana's warm welcome!

Everything met our expectations–a perfectly romantic Honeymoon getaway. The mansion was a photo opportunity at every turn. It was a privilege to be surrounded by elegant and lovely architecture, decor, comfort and hospitality from the care takers. We felt right at home and enjoyed conversing with guests and the house keeper about the history and renovation of the grand mansion. Our room was on the third floor. We enjoyed the cool breeze and privacy. Volunteer Park was only a block away and we enjoyed the surrounding neighborhood homes, shopping and restaurants a short walking distance away.

This historic Mansion was wonderful. The food was delicious (Brenda's strawberry cobbler is fantastic!) and the service was great. Late June, my husband and I spent 3 nights at the Shafer Ballie Mansion. What a treat! Location is excellent! A short walk in one direction takes you to various restaurants and coffee shops. A short walk (one block) in the other direction takes you to Volunteer Park. What a gem! The mansion itself was fabulous. The staff was super. Brenda recommended loads of dining and sightseeing options. The perfect hostess! Breakfast was bountiful with bagels, casseroles, fresh fruits, wonderful coffee and teas, yogurts, sweets, etc. The courtyard was the ideal spot to relax and enjoy a bottle of wine. We found the Shafer Ballie Mansion a perfect stopover for our trip to Alaska, but it would make a perfect destination too!

A glorious old home from a bygone era. Brenda makes an outstanding breakfast. The rooms are charming and decorated beautifully. The one thing I would caution is that housekeeping in the rooms is spotty. We received wash cloths one day, but not the next. The garbage in our room was removed once while we were there, but not the other days.
5 en julio 06, 2013
Shafer Ballie Mansion was a dream. The house itself is lovely to behold, but more than that its staff was warm and welcoming. I've stayed at B&B's before, but seldom felt comfortable to use the other areas. One rather warm day my daughter and I sat and read in the sun room with the windows open and just relaxed. The room itself was decorated in beautiful colors, lovely bedding and a modern well equipped bath. The area of the house close to volunteer park was a great walk in the morning. We did take the car downtown, but were able to park with our hosts guiding us to where we might find available parking. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

We have stayed here twice and both times have been pleased with the location, historic house, and well done breakfast buffet. The breakfast has many options with yogurt, fruit, cereal, egg dish, smoked salmon, hard boiled eggs, juices and coffee. I love the sitting room where early risers can get a cup of coffee and read. The staff are very helpful and know Seattle well.

We so loved staying at the Shafer Ballie Mansion. The pictures don't tell you how huge the place really is and how beautiful everything feels. The hosts were welcoming and wonderfully helpfully. We were wonderfully surprised with the Safer Baillie Manson as the place to stay for my wife's first trip to Seattle. My husband and I couldn't have been happier with our visit to the Shafer Baillie Mansion. The place was lovely, and we enjoyed the historical feel of the place. The Elliot Bay Suite had an extra room with a door for privacy and a day bed for my adult daughter to stay with us. We loved the location in Capitol Hill. There was plenty of breakfast and coffee, tea, and fruit and snacks was left out during the day for guests to enjoy. I highly recommend a stay at Shafer Baillie Mansion.

This was our first time in a B&B and we were blown away from the moment we walked in. The hosts greeted us by name and knew all the details of our stay. They even gave us our choice of rooms that happened to be available the same time as our reservation. The architecture, decorations, landscape, and historical setting were outstanding, and the service and friendliness of the hosts were second to none. This visit set the bar so high, any other place will have a hard time coming close.

This is a beautiful home with gorgeous landscaping on a street of other magnificent homes. The house has lovely leaded stain-glass windows. Inside you'll find a spacious and wonderfully charming home. Brenda greeted us and she couldn't have been more welcoming. We instantly felt right at home. Our room (Volunteer Park Room) was very spacious with a walk-in closet, deep bathtub, and a queen bed you just sink into,. The sheets were the best sheets I have ever slept on. The Mnsion is in an extremely convenshortly cation - just a short walk to the lush and massive Volunteer Park, as well as a huge variety of restaurants. The bus stop is just a block away where you can catch a bus that takes only 10-15 minutes to get downtown and to Pike's Market. I highly recommend this B&B. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Seattle.

I stayed here during a week-long meeting at the convention center. I rented a car and drove back-and-forth. Street parking was always easy to find. I thoroughly enjoyed the area. The neighborhood is beautiful to walk (although the sidewalks are very uneven), the park is a block away, and there are shops/bars/restaurants within a 5-minute walk. The B&B service was great. Check-in and check-out could not have been easier, and the hostess was more than willing to prepare a breakfast when people needed to leave early in the morning. I would definitely stay here again when returning to Seattle.

Would recommend to anyone wanting to explore Seattle.

We had only stayed at a bed and breakfast one time prior to our stay at Shafer Baillie Mansion. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back. We were greeted right away by the host upon our arrival and given a tour of the mansion. He also made sure we had plenty of dining ideas and even a bus schedule and map. We stayed in the Elliot Bay Suite and it was clean and comfortable and spacious. The breakfast in the morning was great with plenty of choices. Our host made us feel very welcome and gave us a few recommendations for our run after breakfast. Friendly service, good food, comfortable rooms....what more could we ask for! Thank you!

we stayed at the mansion for 2 days in the central ballroom suite. Quite a hike up two flights of stairs but the views out the window were wonderful. All of the innkeepers were very helpful and friendly, but knew when to just leave us alone so we could read in peace and quiet. The beds were very comfortable . The only thing in our bathroom it said the floors were heated, but they were not, would have been a nice touch. The little alcove in our room was wonderful, but could have used better lighting. All in all we really enjoyed our visit and hope to return someday.

This mansion is gorgeous! The woodwork and broad staircase are so impressive. We stayed for 3 nights in the Master Bedroom on the second floor, the largest suite in the house. It was truly enormous and quite pretty. Innkeeper Glen (the owners were not on property) was helpful and accommodating. We did not take advantage of breakfast as we were out and about early, but they had coffee, tea and various goodies available at all times. We were left to come and go as we pleased, and saw other guests only in passing, which worked well for us. The neighborhood is charming and we walked easily to many fantastic restaurants, as well as to Volunteer Park less than a block away. We would highly recommend the Shafer-Baillie Mansion to anyone visiting Seattle... It is both charming and grand.

One couple + 2 singles, 1 night in the Elliot Bay room. Room accommodated our needs perfectly with all the amenities one would expect, as well as cable TV/DVD, stocked toiletries, and supplemental space heaters (room was plenty warm without) that were a pleasant surprise in a B+B. Safe neighborhood, free parking, access to bus line and proximity to plenty of restaurants and Volunteer Park make this a no-brainer for any length of stay. Online reservations and the attentive staff kept check-in/out hassle-free. I'll be back.

The two hosts we had were amazing and were very quick with email responses. They were able to accommodate the extra people in my party and were very patient with me when we went back and fourth about how many were going to be staying an extra night. The Mansion is close a lot of great dining in Capitol Hill and an easy 2 block walk to the bus downtown to Pike's Place. There is also free street parking which is convineint. Breakfast was nice - would have liked to see a little more variety. We were also called "kids" the entire time by our host - my husband and I are both 30 and don't appreciate being talked down to because we are younger than the average guest. Felt like we had to walk on eggshells.

My boyfriend and I spent a weekend at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. Overall our stay was great. The house was gorgeous. We stayed in the Capital Hill room. It looked just liked the picture. The room and bathroom were beautifully kept. The staff was very friendly and warm. They provided plenty of food for breakfast and it was delicious. They had a microwave, a tiny fridge, and complimentary bottled water. :) My only criticism is that the floors creaked and the bed made a lot of noise upon sitting and getting up. Other than that, everything was wonderful and I would definitely recommend the Shafer Baillie Mansion.

This was our 2nd stay in 3 years at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. The property is warm, clean and comfortable. The rooms are private and the common areas very comfortable and spacious. The bathrooms are beautifully done and the linens are luxurious. The breakfast spread is generous and fresh. The inn keepers are very accommodating and sweet. The location is ideal for walking to a number of good restaurants as well as volunteer park. Please note that street parking is the only option and in the evenings availability is limited, you may find yourself parking a block or more away from the property.

Perfect scores might be suspect, but this location is REALLY GREAT. Of the eight B&Bs I've stayed in this summer while vacationing across the US this is my favorite. Newspaper in the library, coffeee in the sunroom, a novel in the living room, and ample space in my own bedroom for computer or curling up to write a letter. I enjoyed walking to 15th and to Broadway in this safe neighborhood full of restaurants. And, since I also prefer B&Bs to hotels for work, I highly recommend this to the corporate traveller. Nice internet wefi in a stately mansion, near Broadway dining, plenty of easy street parking, or on a handy bus line to jump down the hill for Seattle meetings. There are at least four large seating areas for conversation, so you could invite a small meeting to come to you, or rent the dining room mid-day for a corporate board meeting. I can imagine 1920's meetings here on millionaires' row, and just bet many local Seattle business leaders would enjoy the change of venue.

We decided to take a fall trip to the northwest area. We spent four days and three nights in Seattle. I discovered this B&B by searching the internet for places that were within one of the city neighborhoods. Capitol Hill had great reviews from previous visitors. This place we found sounded very interesting and descriptive on their web site. The location was excellent, quiet neighborhood, close to Volunteer Park, walking distance to the public bus system, neighborhood pubs, restaurants, and coffee shops. Excellent service, friendly and very knowledgeable in the history of the area, the mansion and the city attractions. We highly recommend this place. Ask for Brenda or Glenn.

The Shafer Baille Mansion is a very special Bed and Breakfast. I would rate it with more stars if possible. The owners purchased it in 2004 and have since put more than 2 million into restoring to its former glory. Brenda and Glen, the Innkeepers, are are so helpful and do a fabulous job. They make you feel like family. Without hesitation I recommend this place. We have stayed in many Bed and Breakfasts and this one is at the top.

We stayed 2 nights and loved the Shafer Baillie. The house and furnishings are beautiful and also very comfortable. Ana was a very gracious and helpful hostess and we enjoyed talking with her during a delicious breakfast. The house is in a good location and there were many restaurants and shops within walking distance. We will definitely be back!

We visited this location about four years ago and thought it was wonderful. If possible, it is even better now. Upper story, third floor rooms have been added for overnight stays after renovation, the outside gardens have been replanted and refurbished, a brick patio with nighttime lighting allows for more gathering space. We love the library, the sun room, the healthy yet opulent breakfast, the attentive and helpful service from the staff and owners, the period-decorated bedrooms, the cleanliness, and the renovation of this manor in keeping with the early 1900’s. We also love the high speed internet, access to Broadway and 15th Street restaurants, and the closeness to downtown. Try Poppy for an amazing dinner a short walk away on Broadway. Of the nine B&B locations we’ve visited this year, the Shafer Baillie Mansion is by far the most historic, opulent, and memorable.

We enjoyed our stay. The mansion has been carefully restored and is very comfortable. A lovely side patio has such potential. It needs additional comfortable seating (three tiny wrought iron tables with 2 chairs each) , potted urns and larger tables. While the breakfast offered lots of carbo choices, a hot protein choice would have trumped cheese and smoked salmon. The small wine chillers did not keep drinks cold. Access to the kitchen refrigerators depended on staff availability.

I settled my Dad into the Mansion. It was his first B&B experience and I told him he was starting out at the top. Shafer Baillie is the most beautiful B&B I've experienced. Grand stairway, old stained glass windows, large well-appointed rooms, beautiful antiques and an absolutely lovely immediate neighborhood coupled with a hip, young neighborhood just 5 blocks away. The hosts are super friendly, open and helpful. The morning breakfast table is an enjoyable place to start the day.

What a beautiful old mansion. So well maintained and furnished. The Breakfast serviced each day was amazing from fresh fruits, salmon and pastries. The best! The staff was extremely courteous and always available to assist. And the beds...the most comfortable I've slept on in years. I would definitely stay here again. What a great way to spend my nights in Seattle. Thank you!!

This B&B is one of the very best. The building itself is a step back in time with every detail lovingly refurbished. We stayed in the Queen Anne room with a comfy four poster bed and a sparkling, modern bathroom. Couldn't have asked for more. The hospitality and wonderful breakfast made this a very special stay. Be sure to walk the neighborhood. The house is only a coupe of blocks from the park with it beautiful flowers and lawns, plus you are able to experience this wonderful old neighborhood with its beautiful homes. You won't be disappointed!

From the moment you walk through the doors of Shafer Baillie Mansion, you feel transported to another year and time. The incredibly well-maintained grounds, immaculate rooms and friendly staff served to make this a truly incredible experience. This place met and exceeded my expectations on all fronts. If you're in Seattle, this place is definitely worth checking out.

This place is in a nice quilt neighborhood. The room is clear and beautiful. Stuff are very friendly. We walked to restaurant nearby for dinner (~10 minutes). Small problems: They forgot to set up a bed for our boy. The shower head does not seem work properly. Overall if was a good experience.

The Inn at Pike Place was fully booked. That turned out to be a godsend because the Shafer-Baillie, located in a quiet, leafy neighborhood of elegant homes, was the better venue. A wonderful stay. The double room was spacious and immaculate, and the hosts are delightful. We would return to Seattle in a minute just for the privilege of staying at the Shafer-Baillie. FSM Connecticut

My family was visiting from Japan and they stayed at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. Everything was just perfect. The service was one of the best that we've experienced. All the staff members working there were so friendly and helpful. The room we stayed at was gorgeous and so are the other rooms. Breakfast was beautifully displayed every morning with a different warm dish that changed everyday. Fresh coffee was available 24 hours along with some snacks and pastries as well. We stayed at the mansion for a total of 6 nights and by the time we left, it was like saying goodbye to family. It was the perfect decision to stay here. We are definitely going to be staying again next time!

My husband and I only had time on this trip for one night at this lovely B&B. We definitely plan to stay there the next time we are in Seattle...for several nights this time! The owner and innkeeper were both so friendly and interesting to speak with. They gave us good recommendations on local eateries within walking distance in the charming, friendly neighborhood. The stately mansion has been carefully tended to and represents the elegance of its era. Bathroom facilities have been updated but maintain the charm of the time. What was described as simpler breakfast fare was actually quite substantial, with many choices and a hot egg dish. We highly recommend this B&B!!

This mansion has been beautifully restored. If you don't mind climbing stairs, we would highly recommend the Southwest Ballroom. It is so spacious, has great views of the city, and is very economical. The breakfast was very filling, and we enjoyed hearing stories from the other guests about sightseeing finds. We had to leave very early in the morning on our last day, and our hosts prepared a wonderful breakfast-to-go for us. We will definitely stay at Shafer Baillie on our next trip to Seattle.

Ana and Brenda were tremendous hostesses. Our stay in Seattle was heighthened by the extraordinary care we received and also the care that the mansion has receieved by its owners. The close proximity to Volunteer Park was a bonus that allowed us to enjoy the Park and Conservatory. The egg strata served at breakfast was delightful. The dining room was full of folks so friendly and eager to share their travel experiences as well. If you are looking to travel to Seattle, you must stay and the Shafer Baillie Mansion. It will definitely be a highlight our your visit.

Shafer Baillie was my first B&B experience in Seattle and it was exceptional. Innkeepers Anna and Brenda were terrific, warm and hospitable in every way. The restoration of the mansion is first-class down to every detail. The location is superb and just a few steps to the wonderful Volunteer Park with an intimate conservatory, impressive water tower overlooking the city, and home to the Seattle Asian Museum. The Capitol district is very close with outstanding bistros, bars and coffee houses. Not to miss is the intimate Oliver Restaurant. The continental breakfast at the mansion was simple but ample with fresh fruits, cereals, cheeses and smoked salmon and other specialty meats, and fresh breads. I enjoyed the european touch vs. an over-the-top breakfast typically offered at B&Bs. I also enjoyed the huge and varied commons rooms of the mansion, in addition to the large outside terrace. The innkeepers provided just enough service and attention without being intrusive. The overall ambience and hospitality of Shafer-Baillie Mansion is superb. I come to Seattle every year and this will now be my preferred residence. It's highly recommended. 4 Stars! Phillip, a frequent inn-traveler

This is an impressive spacious Mansion is located in a quite area within what was once called Millionaires Row. Downtown Seattle can be reached by the number 10 bus (5 minute walk from B&B). There are also many restaurants for evening meals within easy walking distance. The breakfast has a great choice of food. Also during the day there is coffee / tea / cake and fruit available. We had the Elliott suite with a queen size four poster bed you need steps to get into! Great fun. The adjoining room can be made into additional sleeping area but is not in our opinion for another couple. It would be fine for a child’s room. There is a need to fit blinds in this room something I think is on the agenda. Overall this is a great place to stay the breakfast was just special and would highly recommend this B&B.

My stay at the Shafer Bailie Mansion was a delight. From the friendliness of my welcome to the lovely breakfasts to the size of the room, everything was a bit more than I expected from a last minute booking I made. The owner was especially gracious. I love the neighborhood; there was a quick walk up to 15th for a variety of restaurants. Volunteer Park is at the end of the block. Wonderful.

I was reluctant to rate this gorgeous mansion because I am worried that next time I visit Seattle I woudn't be able to get a room or the prices will increase because of the increase in demand. The Shafer Baillie Mansion is a treat, but please keep it a secret.

My family recently stayed at this beautiful bed and breakfast in Capitol Hill, Seattle. The innkeepers were very helpful, kind, friendly and lovely. We would highly recommend the Shafer Baillie Mansion for any Seattle stay.

This is a beautiful mansion that we were so fortunate to stay in for two nights in June. The area where this house is located is lovely with large homes all around and beautiful flower gardens in every one of them. Our stay was very quiet and relaxing. Brenda, who helps run the mansion, is a great and fun person. She brings the right touch to your stay here. My daughter and I found Brenda to be so personable, we shared stories of our families over breakfast. The morning coffee and breakfast is a great start to your day discovering Seattle or just hanging out. What a refreshing place to stay instead of the run of the mill hotels! My next overnight away from home will probably be a Bed and Breakfast Inn again.

The rooms were beautiful, and I love that we were allowed to wander around the inn and into unoccupied rooms. The owners have done a wonderful job preserving the original features of the home; if you like old houses you won't be disappointed. Brenda was very helpful in planning our days. There were a couple of tiny, tiny things that would take my review from outstanding to exquisite: fluffier pillows, an option of down would be nice, and wood toilet seats instead of plastic would be a nice touch in the old-fashioned bathroom. That's how picky I have to be to find suggestions to make. We will definitely stay here again; we had a lovely time in Seattle, and the price for what we got was pretty unbelievable.
5 en junio 03, 2012
Rooms were gracious and clean. Hosts were gracious and very accommodating. This will become our destinatino stay for all future trips to Seattle. No fee on street parking beats all the local hotels charging outrageous amounts for parking. Breakfast was a very classic and tasteful fare. Love the Capitol Hill location. Well done hosts!

We stayed on night here in the SE Ballroom. The room was lovely - great bed. The house itself is amazingly elegant and grand. What a pleasure to stay there! The location was very convenient - a very short walk to the bus that gets you downtown in 15 minutes. Volunteer Park is 2 blocks from the mansion and it is beautiful. There is a lovely Victorian Conservatory there along with the Asian Art Museum and a water tower you can climb for great views of downtown and also Mt. Rainier. The staff (Brenda and Greg) were perfect hosts - very welcoming and helpful - they had lots of suggestions for things to do and places to eat. They could not have been more accommodating. Plus the breakfasts were delicious with lots of variety. We would definitely stay here again.

We were absolutely blown away by this exceptional B&B. The location is so quiet that we rarely saw or heard anyone outside our open windows, but it's 6 minutes from downtown. The house itself is incredibly beautiful, the accommodations deluxe. Rather than an airpot of increasingly stale coffee for off hours, they provide the luxury of a Keurig -- truly fabulous. The only suggestion I would make is that they provide a dark makeup removal cloth ... I hated using the white washcloth; even washing my face several times before using it, I got some mascara on it, and then spent several minutes trying to get it back out. On the other hand, if it's not bothering them, I don't know why it should bother me!

We recently spent two nights at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. This is a beautiful, welcoming estate. Great care has been taken to furnish the home with lovely antiques. The staff was very friendly and made us feel at home We came in late one evening and helped ourselves to hot tea and biscuits in the dining room. I felt as if we were staying at Downton Abbey. My first visit to this lovely B & B will certainly not be my last. The newly renovated historic mansion is both visually pleasing and comfortable. The owners and staff are gracious, knowledgeable and helpful. The breakfast was as beautifully presented as it was delicious. I wished that I had played the piano well enough to take advantage of the opportunity to play the grand piano in the parlor. The library beckoned invitingly for a leisurely reading of the morning paper each morning. Overall, my feeling was that I had been the most welcome guest of highly accomplished hosts in a very well appointed home.

The linens on the bed were luxurious. The expanded continental breakfast was great--I enjoyed it more than I thought because of the variety offered and the flexibility. This is the best bed and breakfast in Seattle, in my opinion. I don't want to stay anywhere else when I'm in Seattle.

The Shafer-Baillie Mansion is by far the best B&B on Seattle's Capital Hill (we've stayed at at least four others, which shall remain nameless). Entering the front gate, you feel like you're stepping back in time, but the hospitality is all 21st century, from the room amenities to the info on what to do in Seattle to the decadent Dilettante chocolate beans on the sideboard and the always-available coffee, tea, fruit and sweets. And the beds---oh, the lovely silky sheets! HZ, Atlanta

We've stayed here twice. Each time, we were welcomed warmly, housed in well-appointed rooms and felt free to relax in all the Mansion's welcoming, luxurious public rooms. The hosts were knowledgeable about the surrounding area when we asked for help finding certain types of stores, and encouraged us to explore the neighborhood. Generous breakfasts gave us a good start to the day. When we needed to stay later in our rooms, the manager was accomodating. We'll be back!

The Shafer Baillie Mansion is not only located in a gorgeous setting, but is also made of gorgeous and comfortable rooms. We stayed in the Southwest ballroom and it was fantastic. The room had a wonderfully comfortable Cal King bed and a whole seating area with a couch. We had our 6 month old with us and the owners were so nice about that. The bathroom floor was heated when we woke up in the morning to take our showers. Such a comfortable room. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic. From the home make egg strada, to the fresh fruit and delicious pastries. We couldn't have asked for more. We will only stay here for our next visit to Seattle. Love it!

The mansion was beautiful both inside and out. And if you are on the third floor like us there is a pretty view of the city lights. I particularly liked that there was books and comfy readings nooks spread all over the house. However, if reading is not in your plans just take a little walk and there is everything you could want just a few blocks away. (A park, little shops, bus stop etc.) And most important the staff was warm and friendly.

I made a special before I booked the master suite and I was treated very well. The gentleman who greeted my party was more than helpful. I met the owner in the morning and she was also quite charming. There was another lady who was short with me in an email reply and not very welcoming when I ran into her in the hallway. She was not rude, just not as warm as the others I met.

Glenn and Brenda went out of their way to make us feel welcome. I stupidly left my iPhone behind and they helped return it to me late in our trip. The rooms and house are beautifully restored and a very welcome sight after having been on the road for 8 hours from Portland via Columbia Gorge and Mt St Helens. The house is situated in a very funky part of town with lots of local colour and a range of places to dine. We only had Seattle down as an overnight but if you were spedning a few days here this B&B would be a great place to base yourself. Being able to brew a fresh coffee whenever you want is a definite bonus! we are alrady planning a return visit to spend more time in the Seattle area.

This is a beautiful old mansion in a beautiful neighborhood. Volunteer park is a block away. A two block walk puts you into the Capitol Hill business area where there are a number of fun pubs and good restaurants. The breakfast at inn was delightful and included smoked salmon, fresh baked goods, along with the usual fare. It is on our "return" list.

Stayed two nights at SB Mansion. Staff was prompt and polite at check in, nice amenities (food and beverages available all the time). Beautiful house, lovely room, nicely appointed with all the modern conveniences (TV with cable, free wifi, computer available in library). Staff was very sweet and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Location is great. It's in a quiet section of the neighborhood, but within a 5 min walk of parks, shops, many restaurants and bars. Did have an issue trying to find the location with the Garmin. You have to be specific to 14th Avenue East instead of just 14th Avenue, but a quick call to the SB Mansion and all was resolved quickly.

A beautiful place to stay with very welcoming innkeepers. Our only difficulty was upon arrival - for some reason we hadn't realized the owners would not be on-site before 4 pm unless previously arranged. And just after 4 pm we again didn't realize that the mansion is so large that loud knocking on the door rather than relying on the doorbell is necessary! A beautiful area of Seattle, close to the center. Our room was enormous with tremendous charm - we only wished we could have stayed longer.

My daughter recently had her wedding at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. It was a beautiful event in a beautiful setting! Everything went as planned and I credit a lot of that to Brenda who is the manager at the mansion. She is fantastic at what she does. Her advice and guidance was invaluable. Not only did we have the wedding there but most of the wedding party stayed in rooms at the mansion for a couple nights. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and great views. The buffet breakfast each morning was so delicious and even included baking from some of Brenda's family recipes. It was a perfect weekend!

We stayed at Shafer Baillie for 2 nights after returning to Seattle on our Alaskan cruise. We had rented a car, and we had prepurchased city pass booklets. Glenn and Brenda went above and beyond to help us out, Brenda told us we should take the bus and monorail to get where we wanted to go rather than drive, she told us exactly where we needed to go and what bus we should take, this saved us a substantial sum of parking fees as well as the hassle of trying to find a place to park, our visit coincided with the Bumbershoot Festival. As for the Mansion, the only reason I didn't give it an outstanding was that the rug in our room was curled up on one edge and you had to be careful not to trip on it, but we were told about it ahead of time. The food was delicious, smoked salmon, boiled eggs, fresh strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, coffee cake, cobbler and more. What a magnificent building!!!

My husband, sister and I stayed at the Shafer Baillie Mansion for six days in August 2011. The staff was exceptional and the mansion is beautiful. We would recommend the Shafer Baillie Mansion and plan on staying again when we are in Seattle.

If you are a " high maintenance " person, this B&B may not be for you...if you want a quiet, private luxury experience... this is your place. After you check in and are given the tour, the staff melts into the background and you feel as if the mansion is yours. You are now ready come and go as you please while seldom running into guests or staff. Breakfast is when the staff shines...I felt the menu was more than "continental" and quite varied and plentiful. Also Brenda, the manager, kept the atmosphere cheerful and the conversation flowing. I only wish we lived within driving distance so that we could visit on a regular basis.

The mansion is wonderful, stained glass, oak wainscotting, comfortable furniture. Our suite was spacious, well lighted, comfortable, great antique bath fixtures. Delicious European-style breakfasts, great neighborhood with Volunteers Park just 1 block away and a comfortable walk to Pike Place Market and countless pubs and restaurants. This is a gem!

Absolutly beautiful place! The rooms, the gardens, the sun room, everything was just perfect. Super clean, friendly service, so comfortable and relaxing. All the little details made it a perfect stay. The first morning for breakfast they even had a homemade blueberry cobbler, yum!!! My only regret is we didn't have more time to enjoy it. -Joy Franklin

This is the fourth time we have stayed at the Mansion while visiting our son in Seattle. The rooms are not only beautiful but very spacious and comfortable. The breakfast provided each morning has something for everyone and is one of the best we have ever seen at a B&B. The innkeepers Ana Lena, Brenda and Glenn are so friendly and helpful they make you feel like you are one of the family. This will be our home away from home as long as our son lives in Seattle!

The house is a gorgeous historic mansion, meticulously restored, on "Millionaire's Row" near Volunteer Park in Seattle. The owners and staff were very welcoming, everything was beautiful, the breakfast featured smoked salmon and other delicacies. It was a wonderful experience. Book early, they fill up fast!

Was pleasantly surprised to find the grounds very well manicured and the staff extremely helpful. From the minute I opened the front door until the minute I left, I felt like I was very much at home and didn't want to leave! Would love to stay there again. A great B&B at a great price!! Amazing food too.

We thought the price for a night's stay at the Mansion was a bit high, but decided to stay anyway. Wow, were we impressed! The entire property is lovely, the common rooms are very inviting and well preserved to the period the mansion was built. Our room was large clean, and very comfortable with exquisite chandelier lighting to enhance the interior view. Breakfast was European style with a delicious buffet. Coffee and tea is available all the time with chocolate candies to top it all off. It was definitely worth the value!

We were in Seattle for our wedding and pseudo honeymoon. We stayed at the Shafer Baillie Mansion after our wedding day as we explored Seattle. It definitely exceeded our expectations. What a wonderful home with a rich history. We will assuredly be back some day.

We stayed for several nights recently at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. Upon arriving we were met by the hosts Brenda and Glen and another couple arrived at the exact same time. Unfortunately we were treated a tiny bit like it was an inconvenience (by Brenda) that we all happened to arrive at the same time. There was also another incident when we were exploring the grounds and told rather rudely (by Brenda) that we were in a private area. There was no sign marking it as such and it made us feel uncomfortable. After those two experiences with her, one of our group said that he would be hiding in the room the rest of the time and did not want to encounter her again. I overheard two other guests say things to her like, "sorry to have bothered you" and "oh, you weren't just being mean...you were looking out for my safety...". It seemed unfortunate to me that not just us, and not just once, but others also felt put off by her several times. I couldn't quite figure out how she got that job, seeming so easily flustered and annoyed by her guests. Besides that, the mansion itself is really pretty and kept very clean. I found it odd that the coffee was single serving and self-help, I guess I thought for Seattle it would have been brewed freshly in very nice big pots. Also, for anyone sensitive to smells, it seems they are burning incense or something very heavy that permeates the whole place and hits you like a wall when you walk in. We would not stay here again. Sad, but true.

I don't think there's a better venue for getting to know Seattle - easy walking distance to great restaurant options, parks, public transportation. Easy parking too! The property is genuinely mansion-like in feel and scale - be sure to ask to see downstairs. Brenda and Glenn were outstanding hosts - very helpful; and the breakfasts were superior quality yet informal.

It is hard to find a great family room at most B & B's. The Shafer Baillie has three excellent rooms that accommodate four people. We stayed in the Southwest Ballroom, which had lots of space and lots of windows. It was only a few dollars more than the so-so hotel we stayed in last time, and here we felt safe, comfortable and taken care of in beautiful surroundings. Fun, walkable neighborhood--interesting houses and good restaurants nearby. Quick drive to other sights. Hosts give excellent directions. First rate without being snobby.

We recently spent 1 night in the Master Suite at Shafer Baillie and were delighted at the size of the suite - it was spacious and comfortable. There is a charming soaking tub in the bath, although it didn't plug or drain well, and it would've taken over an hour to fill half-way, and I felt it would be wasteful - and I couldn't figure out the plug anyway! (the drain problem was that the bit that seemed you would pull up to open the drain was completely loose and not connected to anything!). BUT the shower was wonderful. The sideboard snacks (fruit, cinnamon rolls) were tasty. Not much interface with the innkeeper, so if a guest had questions, it would have meant interrupting her in her room. She did come out around dinner time, though, to point some of us the (walking distance) direction of some local eateries. Nothing spectacular to walk to, but a short drive would take one to some more interesting restaurants, I'm sure. SHAFER BAILLIE itself, though, is a vintage masterpiece, a true gem of an old house. Stunning leaded glass, wood paneling, spacious & gracious public rooms - simply beautiful. Quiet, peaceful, on a wonderful tree-lined street - in a great neighborhood for walking, saying 'hi' to the neighbors, etc. LOVED Shafer Baillie and would stay again.

Our stay at Shafer Baille was very relaxing. The house and grounds were clean and quiet and they have wonderful Egyptian cotton sheets on the beds. (nice touch) The owners have put a lot of time and effort restoring this beautiful home. The people running the B&B for the owners were very helpful in getting us acclimated to the area and made a wonderful breakfast for everyone. My favorite rooms are the dining room and the sunroom with all of the natural light shining through in the morning. But every room has its own character and some interesting detail. This is a great place to unwind while still being close enough to Seattle to enjoy the city if you want to. If we visit Seattle again, we would definitely stay at Safer Baille again.

The Mansion was amazing! The Inn keepers are so freindly and informative. The house has so much history and is in a great location. My far the best neighborhood in Capital Hill. There was pleanty of parking out front each night. Breakfast was more than you would get at any other B&B in town and the best thing was that you can eat anywhere between 8-10am. Would definitly recommend this again!

we really enjoyed our stay at the Shafer Baillie mansion- it's a REAL mansion and is fun to explore. We stayed in one of the ballrooms, the bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. Stayed here for 2 nights over Memorial Day weekend 2011. Brenda and Glen were great hosts -- warm, friendly and helpful with information about places to visit. The Mansion is well-kept and located in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood, within easy walking distance to Volunteer Park and restaurants, cafes and shops. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The breakfast is continental but a generous one, and there is a Keurig coffee/tea maker available for use throughout the day. I'd definitely stay here again.

Loved all the breakfast options. The cobbler was delicious. We loved the Southwest Ballroom. The California king sized bed is so comfortable and the room was very quiet. My husband's favorite room to visit was the library. He loved the selection of books and magazines. We will recommend this place to our friends and family. We plan to return again next year. What a gem! Wish I could keep this one all to myself, but that would just be selfish! This is a gorgeous home with wonderful hosts. We played the piano in the salon, sipped coffee in the conservatory, had breakfast in dining room like the elite and investigated the neighborhood and nearby park. Fabulous views of the city...comfortable beds...and heated tile floors! What more could you ask for...this family of four (yes, including teenagers) votes this is one place we will definately return to!

We are frequent travelers and Shafer Baillie is now on the top of our list. Everything about the inn was better than expected. The hosts are amazing, genuinely interested in their guests without being intrusive. The mansion oozes character and history, while retaining a warmth that glows from every room. An added bonus is how squeaky clean the staff keeps the inn. Beautiful, rich bed linens and every amenity you can think of. Finally, we enjoyed the location. Being runners, we had access to the arboretum, Volunteer Park and the unique charm of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Many great neighborhood cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Can't recommend this place enough!!

The sheets alone would give this property a high rating. However, the staff definitely clinche it. They are very personal, warm, and friendly such that one feels like family. The Shafer Baillie Mansion is a beautiful, well-maintained property with comfortable common rooms where guests can "hang out" and enjoy being pampered. Delicious food for breakfast. Beverages and snacks available 24/7 and a dish of chocolates on the entry table is a welcoming temptation when you return from your day's adventure. The beds are unbelievably comfortable with those sheets I mentioned. I can easily recommend this B&B. Many thanks to Brenda, et al for a lovely stay.

All I can say is, this is such a beautiful place... we didn't want to leave. Though it was winter, from the moment we entered the gated courtyard, it was like stepping back in time. We really could not have enjoyed our stay more at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. Our room was lovely, spotlessly clean and comfortable. You will not disappointed if you choose this terrific spot to stay while you visit Seattle.

The rooms were very comfortable with added pluses like an i-pod dock/alarm clock. The wi-fi was also a great feature. The library also contained albums outlining the history of the mansion along with pictures. Capitol Hill is also a great area close to bus transportation, coffee shops and restaurants and is only a 20 minute walk from downtown. We would definitely stay there again and have recommended it to others.

We have stayed at the Shafer-Baillie many times over the past year and a half, and it has truly become our home-away-from-home in Seattle. Our oldest daughter goes to school in the area, so we have been fortunate to get to know Brenda and Glen's hospitality well. From the moment you arrive, they make sure to take care of every need. We have stayed in many amazing places throughout the world, but this inn stands above the rest. It is lovingly restored, yet unpretentious. Immediately, you feel at home in this magnificent historical landmark. More importantly, Glen and Brenda connect with their guests through their sincere desire to make your stay perfect, as well as a genuine interest in everyone they meet. This being said, they are never intrusive or overbearing. They have made us feel like family, whether we are there for a brief stay or a more lengthy visit. Quite simply, there is no better place to stay in Seattle. The Shafer-Baillee combines luxury, hospitality and warmth to make for a perfect stay.

The Shafer Baillie Mansion is absolutely beautiful including the grounds. We enjoyed being able to walk to the park and local dining. Brenda was so welcoming and very helpful to us as this was our first visit to Seattle. The rooms were beautiful and fairly comfortable, a little creeky but I guess that is to be expected. We were very disappointed in the breakfast, mostly carbs, kind of a continental breakfast.

Our children gave us a gift certificate a year ago for a bed and breakfast, but we had never used it, never having gone to a bed and breakfast before. Finally, we decided to celebrate our 31st anniversary there. It was amazing! Inside I felt like I was in a page from Gone With the Wind. It was beautiful with dark woods and plush furniture. A bowl of truffles welcomed us in the main hall. A room was comfortable and private. The breakfast was outstanding, much more than a traditional continental breakfast. Fine cheese, proscuitto ham, salmon, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, and homemade breads and pastries. We want to come back every year!

The SB Mansion was a great spot for family to gather for the wedding. The location was beautiful and there was plenty of room. Any room problems were taken care of promptly. The plumbing in the Master Suite bathroom (shower) was unique to see, but not so user friendly. If the old plumbing could be left in place to see, but more modern controls put inside the shower, it would be a great improvement. The breakfast was fine for the first few days, but I think on the weekends it would be a nice touch to have scrambled eggs and bacon or a waffle maker, just to break up the routine. Brenda and Glen do a good job of welcoming you and answering any questions. We enjoyed our visit...thanks

My parents and I enjoyed our two-night stay in the SB Mansion very much. It is located in a quieter part of Seattle, a bit off of the regular tourist trail. With a number of other beautiful houses nearby, the SB Mansion also offers access to several restaurants and coffee shops. Volunteer Park -- one block away -- is a nice place to spend a summer afternoon; the Conservatory in the park is outstanding. SB Mansion itself is full of great amenities with the feel that much work has gone into its restoration. It provides a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, while retaining its historical charm without pretense. Ana (one of the owners) is an easy-going and friendly person, who is truly interested in all of her guests' backgrounds, and who is helpful in providing information about the neighborhood. She has a gift for what she has chosen to do, which is nice to see. We found the breakfast to be superb with a variety of cheeses, prosciutto, smoked salmon, pastries, good coffee, cereals, and fresh fruit (prepared and replenished throughout the morning so that guests may conveniently serve themselves to eat around a large table in the dining room which receives a nice morning light). Overall, our stay was fantastic. I would highly recommend SB Mansion to anyone.

My wife and I spent weeks researching B&B's in Seattle and we decided on the Shafer Baillie Mansion after reading the reviews online and checking out their website. We have stayed in many different hotels and B&B's around the country, and I must say this is in the top two. The website does not do this place justice! The house itself is a sight to see. Exceptionally grand. It has been restored to perfect condition. The rooms are large and have top quality beds and sheets with big screen TV's and cable. The house is located in the best part of town which was originally called "Millionaire's Row". All of the surrounding streets are lined with beautiful grand homes. The house has huge rooms on the first floor for relaxing, reading or conversation. While they do not serve a "full" breakfast, the expanded continental is plentiful and delicious. More than enough to get you through until lunch. Parking is somewhat of a challenge in Seattle but if you're relying on public transportation (which I recommend), the bus stop is one block over and you can catch a bus to anywhere about every 15 minutes. The Shafer Baillie Mansion is an excellent value and is highly recommended.

We stayed here recently with our 15-year old son and were very impressed with the inn. Our room was on the recently renovated 3rd floor and it was readily apparent that they did a great job. Flat screen TV, comfortable beds, great linens - all the comforts of a fine room without sacrificing the atmosphere of a historic old home. The neighborhood is amazing with all of the other mansions and parking was never a problem (We have been to Seattle a number of times and parking can be extremely difficult in residential areas.) The staff was very helpful and gracious - helping with our luggage even when we arrived after our expected check-in time and providing breakfast before their normal start time. We would definitely stay here again!

If you enjoy staying in historic B&B's you will be very pleased with the Shafer Baillie Mansion. The exterior draws you in, the decor is nicely appointed, the detailed woodwork throughout the home is incredible and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast offerings were ample and a walk around the surrounding neighborhood was a rare treat. No wonder they called it 'Millionaire's Row'. The best part of our stay was the welcome and service provided by our innkeepers - Brenda and Glen. Brenda has the right idea - "it's all about connecting with the guests". She is charming and a real 'People Pleaser'. Glen offered exceptional service that went above and beyond our expectations. A charming visit at a B&B we will certainly return to.

The entire SB mansion experience is amazing. The gardens, patio and overall Capitol Hill location are ideal. Our room Master Suite was luxurious -- the bed was so comfy, the decor was enchanting and the multi-spray shower was heavenly. The Innkeepers clearly are focused on the enjoyment of the guests and we were so welcomed and pampered. We're already planning our next trip so we can again enjoy the walks into the charming, creative Capitol Hill area and bask in the beauty of the SB oasis.

We had a wonderful weekend. The hostess was knowledgeable and had maps and directions to everywhere we wanted to go! The house is beautifully appointed with period pieces and our room was very comfortable. The area in which the mansion is located is perfect. Volunteer Park, Millionaire Row and the Capitol Hill District is wonderful for walking and exploring. A totally different Seattle. We had an excellent weekend and would go back.

What a great surprise to find such a beautiful B&B just minutes away from the heart of Seattle. We go to many many B&B and this one is on the top of our list to recommend.

This great Bed and Breakfast is located in a beautiful neighborhood just outside the city centre, it is only a 20 minutes’ walk to downtown Seattle. The area is very green, with the Volunteer Park and the Interlaken Park nearby. The Shafer Baillie Mansion is a very warm and brilliant house. The atmosphere is unique and the whole house is a combination of style, tradition, and comfort. The fact that we extended our stay 3 times says it all. We really felt at home and the owners are incredibly nice and helpful. On the one hand, they are always willing to help you, you can always have a talk with them, but on the other hand they give you your privacy. In sum, we have had a perfect time in the Shafer Baillie Mansion, we felt at home, and we will definitely come back. Moreover, we highly recommend it to our friends and relatives. All the best, Maurits van den Noort & Peggy Bosch

A wonderful haven away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Seattle but within a 15 minute ride on public transportation...free parking...and a variety of delicacies for breakfast...made our lengthy time spent at a conference bearable...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mansion. I had a large family group (7) and it was our first visit to Seattle. Ana and her family were so friendly and kind to all of us, especially the children in the group. They have done and outstanding job renovating the home! Our only complaint is we didn't have enough time at the Inn. We hope to return for a much longer visit very soon!

Loved this place. The mansion was awesome. We stayed in the Master Suite which was fantastic -- loved the big screen TV and spray shower. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone visiting Seattle.

Great location on Millionaire's Row, Capitol Hill, near beautiful Volunteer Park. Extraordinary renovation with amazing attention to detail. We loved the Master Suite, a super value given its size, huge TV, and amazing rib cage shower. I promise you've never experienced anything like it. Cordial innkeepers, too.
