House on Main Street B & B: Beautiful, Regional Charm, Walk to best of Williamstown: Clark Art Museum, Williams College, Restaurants, Many quality Stores, town green. Character too. Short drive to other attractions: Mount Greylock, North Adams’ Natural Bridge, Mass MOCA, etc. Room comfy, breakfast superb. Recommend highly.
My wife and I recently took a romantic getaway weekend out in Western MA, and as always, stayed at Steep Acres. We were first introduced to this fabulous B&B a few years ago, and are repeat customers any time we have an occasion to head to the Berkshires. Steep Acres sits on a hill overlooking the beautiful local topography: it's far enough away from the major roads that you feel like you're really away from it all, but is still a quick drive to any of the local sights (the Clark, MassMOCA, Williams College, etc.). Dan, the proprietor, is a fabulous host and innkeeper, with an encyclopedic knowledge of the local area (and particularly restaurants!). The rooms and house are always impeccable, while still feeling warm and welcoming. Dan provides a world-class breakfast every morning, which should not be missed - ask about the breakfast pizza! We can't recommend Steep Acres highly enough, whether for a visit to a child at Williams, for trips to the local arts and food scene, or even just for a quiet weekend in the mountains. We'll definitely be back in the spring! Note: Dan is currently rebuilding the Steep Acres website, so it's not available - contact him by phone instead.
I had a wonderful time at House on Main Street, while visiting my son and attending a Williams Football game. The rooms are very cozy, clean and quiet, and I loved the atmosphere of the place. I stayed in a room with a shared bath and the bathrooms were spotless, and always available. My room was even refreshed with clean towels, etc. while I was out during the day. Breakfast was quite good, with homemade pancakes, fruit, juice, coffee and tea served. Timothy and Donna were very welcoming and friendly hosts, encouraging conversation among the guests. I won't hesitate to stay here again on future visits to the area.
The property was clean and well kept. Our hosts were warm and engaging. The food was delicious. And Angus the cat greeted us every morning. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and look forward to coming again soon.
The bed was comfy, the room was cozy, the breakfast was outstanding, but most importantly, what made me fall in love with this place is how we were made to feel when we were there. Jen made us feel so comfortable... She is down to earth, welcoming, and so genuine. When we left, I really felt like I was leaving a friends home, I was sad to leave, and hoping to go back soon!
We stayed at the 1896 for 4 continuous nights taking day trips into VT, NH and NY looking for covered bridges and fall colors. The staff was friendly and welcoming upon check-in. The room was 1950's rustic as shown in the photos with king poster bed, small bathroom (including a single Jacuzzi bathtub) and one dresser. The carpet was generally clean but the edges and corners hadn't been vacuumed for awhile. My only other critique is the road noise. The location faces VT 7, a very busy road. The rooms have single pane windows so the noise is very noticeable all day and into the night. There is really nothing to be done about this except to remember ear plugs for sleeping. Other than these small couple of items we had a pleasant stay. The setting is beautiful with the babbling brook, footbridge to the restaurant serving outstanding lunch and dinner food. The included breakfast has a pancake machine (first I'd ever seen) making good pancakes, a waffle maker, crispy bacon, powdered scrambled eggs and an assortment of sweet rolls. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate on a separate table including instant oatmeal. It was very convenient dining which we took advantage of several times.
We enjoyed our second stay at the House on Main Street. This place is so comfortable, with clean rooms and friendly hosts. The atmosphere at House on Main Street is truly homey, and the shared common space is inviting. Also, the pancakes that Donna and Timothy made for breakfast during our stay were quite good! I will continue to stay at this affordable inn whenever I am in Williamstown.
We absolutely loved staying there! The room and the en suite bathroom were great and Jennifer and Dave are lovely people. They made us feel very welcome. There aren't any restaurants close by, so Jennifer helped us find one that we could order from and drove one of us there. She also dropped us off at the start of the Appalachian Trail... oh, and breakfast was amazing!!!! The only drawback was that the noise coming from the road was sort of loud in our room. However, it seems that other rooms were better in this regard.
The House on Main Street is the place to stay in the Berkshires. It is located within easy walking distance of restaurants, the college and museums in Williamstown. The rooms are comfortable and the living room and porches are nice places to hang out. The guests eat breakfast together which is always fun. The hosts are gracious and we always enjoy our conversations with them.
John and his wife were lovely. The location of the house was on a very busy road and not exactly where we thought it was going to be. The hoe is beautiful and quite large. The service was exceptional and the food was very good. Our room was very small and not nearly as charming as other places we've stayed in the past, although we did choose the most affordable option. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and certainly got a good value for our buck.
John was welcoming and friendly. He was personable and made a delicious French toast breakfast for us on the patio. The room was clean and cute. Location is great with a short drive to Lenox, Lee, and Stockbridge. Would certainly stay here again.
Do yourself a favor and make this your stay, on your next Berkshire vacation ! Jen and David are amazing and the Inn is so beautiful. She makes your stay to complete in so many ways (Breakfast, Chocolates, Late night snacks and cocktails) . The grounds are beautiful. You will not be disappointed !!
Jen was so welcoming and helpful. Our concert tickets fell thru and she was able to save the day and got us theatre tickets and within an hour we were there and had an enjoyable evening to a very excellent play. She went the extra mile helping us! Our breakfast was delicious and such a beautiful table and setting. We highly recommend this B & B.
What an outstanding Bed and Breakfast. Rooms are beautifully decorated and very clean. Jen makes so many little special touches to make your stay a memorable one. Beautiful flower gardens and the best part is the amazing breakfast. I would highly recommend the stay to make you Berkshire visit complete !!! AAA+++
We enjoyed our one night stay. The traditional motel bedroom is small but has charm and we loved the adirondack chairs by the stream in from. Received good advice about local trails from the staff. A good experience. We will come back when we visit grandson at Williams.
We spent two lovely nights at this charming B & B and recommend it without hesitation if you love a traditional B & B experience. The setting is bucolic, including beautiful gardens and rural scenery. The three course breakfast was exceptional and there were many additional treats, including being served ice tea and snacks on the side porch when we arrived and late night drinks and fresh brownies when we returned from dinner. The hosts could not have been more attentive and engaging.
We were in the area to visit the Mass. Museum of Contemporary Art which is a short drive from Harbour House. Jennifer and David were excellent hosts and took good care of us. The food was excellent and they had a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived which was a nice touch. I would definitely recommend Harbour House.
Beautiful grounds, sweet dogs, creative breakfast, kind host, quiet rooms, easy drive to museums, all around wonderful experience
The House on Main Street is an excellent place to stay in the Berkshires. The innkeepers are friendly and helpful. It is within walking distance of the Williams College campus, museums and restaurants. Other sites are typically a 30 minutes drive. All of the guests eat breakfast together which is always fun. The food is good however, they don't serve meat. The rooms are comfortable. Our favorite is the Blue Room on the first floor. It has its own bathroom and comfortably sleeps three.
We've been staying at the House on Main Street for about 20 years, and have always loved coming. The location is perfect and centrally located, easily walkable to everything in Williamstown. Timothy and Donna are gracious hosts, and have made every visit enjoyable. We will definitely be staying again!
Our host was wonderful: gave us the choice of a room other than the one we had booked a while back; made a wonderful early departure light breakfast for us; and was very warm and capable. Room was clean and very comfortable. Bathroom was modern, spotless and roomy. Located a one minute drive from Williams.
